There’s Still Hope for Benedict Cumberbatch! The Actor Thinks the Original Cast is Returning for Star Wars: Episode 7.

The situation around Benedict Cumberbatch is really starting to look very complicated. Few days ago a rumor was released that the actor has been cast in Star Wars: Episode 7. Later the actor’s representative denied the rumors. One day later the actor himself dismissed the rumors. Now there’s another interview with Cumberbatch where he actually left the door open for his possible involvement with Episode 7…

Benedict Cumberbatch has been interviewed by The Telegraph during the Toronto Film Festival. Here’s what the actor said when asked to comment on the recent Star Wars rumors:

“Of course I’d love to do Star Wars and work with JJ Abrams again because we had such a good time on Star Trek. But nobody has been cast and there are no offers out to anyone apart from the regulars who are returning. So that’s that rumour quashed.” Then he adds with a grin: “We’ll have to wait and see.”

The line “there are no offers” could very well mean that he’s in early talks right now and can’t talk about it. Not only he left the door open for him but also he kinda confirmed that the original cast are returning in Episode 7. The big question is does he know something more because of his relation with Abrams or his knowledge comes from the internet rumors?

Also check out what’s the opinion of the always credible BleedingCool:

I’m now 99% certain that Benedict Cumberbatch will be in Star Wars Episode VII. I’m sure many of you will have far greater doubts, or simply consider this to all be a lot of fuss over nothing.
It all comes down to exactly what an “offer” is, of course. Cumberbatch is talking about something final, something that can be agreed to and which will then become contractually binding. That’s what this piece of not-quite-jargon means.
The not-quite-jargon that’s applicable for his place in the process now, it seems, is that he’s “in talks” or “negotiations.”

I hope there will be some official announcements soon because the situation with all this rumors is really getting ridiculous.

  1. It was still to early to report anything from Lucasfilm point of view by next month something satisfying will coming, we might as well just wait for trailer next year, otherwise, there will just be too much frustrating speculation.

    1. And the point of sp many sites that make money from rumours. No rumours no money so expect tons of rumours. Even after we know name of the real cast.

ps sites like latino review live for that rumour.

    2. Sure but so many have been ludicrous, and I’m sure that negates
rumours. I just think it sucks how much people get paid to speculate. Not the kind of progress I care for. I’m for strong journalism not kids spreading rumors and raking it in.

  3. I LOVE HIM but i want unknowns! And he was in JJ Abrams and
    steven spielberg films.

    My FAN cast will be:

    Daniel Day-Lewis

    Denzel Washington OR Edward Norton

    Rachel Wood

    Elle Fanning/abigail breslin/Hailee Steinfeld

    Hugh Dancy

Only two real and expensive stars. All other actors rising new faces!

    2. So you don’t want Benedict because you want mostly unknowns. But you also want Daniel Day-Lewis and loads of high profile actors?? Then you say “and he was in JJ Abrams and Steven Speilberg films”. But you say you want Elle Fanning, who was one of the main characters in JJ Abram’s Super 8. And i’m not sure why him being in a Steven Spielberg film has got to do with anything? Especially baring in mind Daniel Day-Lewis was in Spielberg’s Lincoln haha.

  4. Well, I really hope he does play in the movie. If I directed Star Wars, the first actors I’d approach would be Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy for sure.

    1. ..There is no ‘point’ to speculation. It’s just something interesting to keep up to date with. If you don’t like it then don’t read it. The only pointless thing here is your comment.

  6. What happen with ‘big news next week’? I guess this rumour is dead and we need new one? I mean come on this is stupid even for kids game.

May be if Benedict Cumberbatch do what all other actors do in this position than rumour will be dead. I said it few day aho and i will repeat it 99.99% of actors and their agents use these rumors for PR and they usually say i don’t want that role/movie or we will see, may be i will think about that(when nobody offer nothing) etc etc etc bullshit. This man at least is HONEST and not making cheap PR!

  7. You know, I would feel honored if I were to start a Star Wars rumor which spread across the internet like wildfire. It would make me feel very special….

.. as a side note, did any of you guys hear the recent rumor that’s circulating that the planet Hoth will make a reapearance and that Obi Wan Kenobi’s ghost will be a CG recreation of Alec Guiness?

  8. Star Wars news is so slow these days, I’d like to ask the admins of this site if they would like to do a talk show with an episode once a week abd upload it herr, all discussions done via skype or someother similiar app.
