The situation around Benedict Cumberbatch is really starting to look very complicated. Few days ago a rumor was released that the actor has been cast in Star Wars: Episode 7. Later the actor’s representative denied the rumors. One day later the actor himself dismissed the rumors. Now there’s another interview with Cumberbatch where he actually left the door open for his possible involvement with Episode 7…
Benedict Cumberbatch has been interviewed by The Telegraph during the Toronto Film Festival. Here’s what the actor said when asked to comment on the recent Star Wars rumors:
“Of course I’d love to do Star Wars and work with JJ Abrams again because we had such a good time on Star Trek. But nobody has been cast and there are no offers out to anyone apart from the regulars who are returning. So that’s that rumour quashed.” Then he adds with a grin: “We’ll have to wait and see.”
The line “there are no offers” could very well mean that he’s in early talks right now and can’t talk about it. Not only he left the door open for him but also he kinda confirmed that the original cast are returning in Episode 7. The big question is does he know something more because of his relation with Abrams or his knowledge comes from the internet rumors?
Also check out what’s the opinion of the always credible BleedingCool:
I’m now 99% certain that Benedict Cumberbatch will be in Star Wars Episode VII. I’m sure many of you will have far greater doubts, or simply consider this to all be a lot of fuss over nothing.
It all comes down to exactly what an “offer” is, of course. Cumberbatch is talking about something final, something that can be agreed to and which will then become contractually binding. That’s what this piece of not-quite-jargon means.
The not-quite-jargon that’s applicable for his place in the process now, it seems, is that he’s “in talks” or “negotiations.”
I hope there will be some official announcements soon because the situation with all this rumors is really getting ridiculous.
