Rumor: The Actor to Play Solo’s Kid Still Not Revealed?

star wars

You’ve probably already heard the rumors of the possible characters that Adam Driver could be playing in Episode 7. Hit the jump for another different possibility for one of those characters…

Beware of possible SPOILERS

A slight clarification: Even before the reports that Driver is playing a villain in Episode 7 there was a talk that he could possibly play a Solo kid that is seduced by the Dark Side (ala Jacen Solo). That’s why I’m not surprised that this rumor was picked from several major movie sites. I guess they heard that one too. Still JediNews were the first to officially report this a few days ago.

So according to JediNews

Sounds like Adam Driver is NOT going to play a villain…sort of.

He will be playing the son of Han and Leia, and it seems he will be seduced to the Dark Side, and a main plot point for the movie will be their attempt to rescue him.

His appearance is nothing like Leia or Han but who knows.

star wars

And here’s a little something from me. It’s a pretty interesting rumor I’ve heard from one of our sources:

There will be indeed a Jacen Solo type of character in Episode 7 but the actor who will play him is not revealed yet. They’re intentionally keeping him a secret. His part will be small in Episode VII but much bigger in Episode VIII.

Sounds really intriguing and if right I wonder how long they would manage to keep him a secret.

As always take both rumors with a grain of salt. And let’s not forget the early reports supposedly coming from Lucasfilm that Episode 7 will be an original story. And a Solo kid being seduced by the Dark Side is everything but an original story.

I’d say he has a unique look and I’m glad casting was not based on the CW model. Some of you blokes should search your feelings and decide why you’re truly so obsessed with Adam Driver’s physical appearance. It’s ok. It gets better.

Odd = unique? So I’m not sure why a bloke like you would assume anything about the feelings of others or any perceived obsession with Mr. Driver’s physical appearance. To the contrary, it makes me wonder why you feel compelled to come to his rescue… Mr. Knight in Shining Armor.

I think they haven’t cast the Son of Solo yet… no proof other than none of the cast looks like Han and Leia. Pretty safe bet that Daisy is their daughter… she totally looks the part and was sitting between Harrison and Carrie at the table read.

Domhall Gleeson does look like Luke’s kid. As for Driver, I am not buying he is Han’s kid. He really looks like the villain. I think they are going to cast a Dicaprio type unknown as Han’s kid.

He will be portraying a young Ford character in an upcoming movie, but not Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Waste of his incredible talent, if you ask me. I’d love to see Ingruber play the part of Solo’s son or a (better) young Indiana Jones.

Well aware of that and I anticipate that his shortcomings will be exposed and he will never see the light of day again in relation to Harrison Ford stuff… A couple of youtube video impressions does not a star make. We never saw Rich Little work as anything other than a stand-up comedian even though he was uncanny in some of his impressions. you certainly never saw a guy like that portraying a younger version or offspring of someone he did impressions of…

His incredible impression of Ford isn’t the only thing that gets me. It’s moreso the fact that Ingruber looks almost identical to a young Harrsion Ford. His talent in impersonating Solo is just the icing on the cake.

    • May 14, 2014 at 7:41 pm
      Permalink

Agreed with the last Anon about the Rich Little thing. It’s one thing to spend hours nailing an impression. It’s another to be a unique original actor who breaks the mold like Harrison Ford did.

Also, Ingruber must have already been seen by casting directors and not impressed them enough with his Acting. He is already playing a young H Ford in a movie, right? So SW casting must know who he is and said, meh. He is a decent impersonator, but so are a lot of stand up comedians. We need a real movie star to play the son of Solo, not a skinny high school kid who has a lot of growing up to do.

I agree with you. Shia is a damn good actor. But Spielberg made him look like a fool in Crystal Skulls. The CGI was crap, but Spielberg made a ton of ridiculous decisions on that film. I think the worst scene actually was when Shia threw a giant rubber snake to Indy in Marion when they were sinking in quicksand. That was even worse than the Nuke the Fridge moment. Spielberg is so powerful that no one would dare tell him that he was fucking things up royally.

Hollywood is all about typecasting. Someone has to show up and look the part instantly so the audience doesn’t get confused. Look at Benicio Del Toro. Very good actor, but no one would ever cast him as the hero of the story. So he gets roles like the Werewolf and the Collector in GOTG.

Driver is in the Del Toro category. Then look at Ewan McGregor. Good looking guy, but not CW good looking. Ewan doesn’t look like an Abercrombie catalogue model, thank God. But you bet he looks like a hero, hence Obi Wan Kenobi.

In many ways an announcement can say many things or nothing. BEWARE of Disney and its secrecy they didn’t say casting is closed or open …they leave us in a clever way to make assumption for almost everything so to keep the buzz around the movie very alive….

The “Adam Driver character game” is really a interesting one. I do agree with many of the views and points above. However, a few points that really take me away from the fallen Jedi (Sith to be) or Han’s son arguments (or both) are detailed below. I know the fallen Jedi is a very popular theory, especially with the “Darth Vader like villain” comment. So moving away from this theory for a few moments, lets look at an alternative character for Adam Driver.

First, Adam driver does not look anything like Han Solo or Leia in my opinion (I know others have pointed this out as well) and he is also a couple inches or more taller than Ford. So not sure I buy that he would be Han and Leia’s kid primarily based on the fact that he doesn’t favor either parent.

Second, Adam Driver is a Marine and with that of course comes high level military training. He would fit in great with an elite military group in Ep VII. I wonder who that elite military group/faction could be? 🙂

His military background seems to have been overlooked by many and may have been part of the attraction to him by Abrams, especially if he is to play … oh let’s say .. a Mandalorian Commander/Leader … possibly Mandalore himself. I keep going back and forth on this but the more I read about the guy and the more we are discussing what character he will be. I just cant ignore the fact that he would be a great Mandalorian, especially with his military training, screen presence and obvious energy and craziness on screen.

Third, he fits the anti-hero mold by definition. My only trouble here is that can an aspiring Mandalorian be the anti-hero of Episode VII, VIII, or IX?

Fourth, the return of the “warrior ways” of Mandalore (CW canon). The obvious omission by Lucas of Mandalorians in the PT, has been fixed (if you will) by the CW’s (which are now canon of course). Fixed by the canonical fact that Mandalore was a pacifist system during most of the the actual Clone Wars. And a lot of time (and I mean a lot of episodes) were dedicated to pacifist Mandalore and its eventual return to its ANCIENT warrior ways. I dont think it is a coincidence that Mandalore received so mush screen time in the CW, A Mandalorian Mercenary is a part of the Rebels cast, and don’t think that the folks in charge will let Sabine be the end of the Mandalorian line. I believe Sabine is in a way confirmation that the Mandalorian line will continue in to the ST. Just my two credits!

This is really going to be fun leading up to the the first character leak for Adam Driver or official announcement. Could he be wearing Mandalorian Armor? Can’t wait!

    • May 14, 2014 at 8:53 pm
      Permalink

Droid Shack, good theories, time will tell. Yeah, he was a Marine and that is pretty hardcore, a warrior anti-hero type would work. He certainly won’t be the romantic lead, if JJ goes that route.

    • May 14, 2014 at 9:52 pm
      Permalink

Very cool thoughts indeed! Yeah, Driver’s military background certainly could be reflected in his character. And they do seem to have gone out of their way to establish the Mandalorians as a part of the ongoing SW story. Very interesting indeed – and definitely a plausible theory that would look killer onscreen!

One other thing that keeps nagging at me about the idea that Driver will be Han and Leia’s son (aside from the fact that he doesn’t look a bit like them) is this… who’s to say they even have a son?

People tend to assume that the Solos will have twins like they did in the books. But I don’t think I’ve seen any evidence of that yet from any of the official info that’s come out. Personally, I think it’s just as likely that Han and Leia just have a daughter, and that she will play the “Luke” role in the story, rather than splitting focus between herself and a sibling character.

Viral, the main thing I agree with on your current rumor is that the son of Solo has not been revealed to us yet. Whether that part has been cast, I don’t know. If he has been cast, JJ might not reveal it until ALL the other roles are cast. My guess is there will be one more big casting announcements when everybody is signed, sealed, and delivered. Unfortunately for us, this merry go round could keep spinning for another month!

I can’t believe the amount of posts that people are saying he will be Jacen Solo. How many more times does Lucasfilm and Disney need to confirm no EU will be in the film? What is wrong with you people, you still think Mara Jade will be in the film as well.

I think it’s because we have nothing solid to go on. So people refer to Jacen Solo et al as a way to speculate on what is happening. Because in fact we know nothing real at this point.

I don’t see anyone in the comments that hasn’t realised that the EU is non cannon anymore.. I read Jacen a couple of places, but come on.. what else can they call him for now? And the plotline he talks about. Fair enough, the EU is not canon anymore, but they’re obviously taking chunks and characters and recycling it. The plotline about the fallen Solo is Jacen Solos’ story. Deal with it

How many times is the EU argument going to spur? Yes the EU isn’t canon anymore, but they are still taking stuff from it for inspiration like they do with Marvel Comic books. At this point people who argue about the EU not being important are just stubborn and ignorant. If you are a Star Wars fan, stop complaining where the characters come from pro EU or not.

So here are my predictions. They may be unoriginal, whatever. Get over it.
This is what I want to see!

The new Republic will be dominant in the galaxy.
A new Jedi Order will exist either on Coruscant of Yavin IV.
Lea is in charge of the Republic. Han/Chewie are in charge of Republic forces.
Issac, I predict will be a commanding officer such as Carth from KOTOR.

Boyega is likely a star pupil of Luke, perhaps his apprentice.
Gleeson, I predict will take on the role of Ben Skywalker (could quite possibly hold a different name, but I hope not).

Driver, a Jedi student who falls to the dark side.

von Sydow, an ancient Sith Lord resurrected from Korriban aka Morriband.

Serkis, some Alien. Probably evil. But I doubt Sith. If he is a Sith, maybe he resurrected von Sydow.

One thing I hope to see is variety in the Jedi.
Not just a bunch of Jedi Guardians with blue sabers running around using force push once or twice. Bring something new to the table, please!
Anybody else notice that in the prequels force powers are rarely used?

Those are my predictions. I honestly hope to see the movie become this.
