Updated With Video! Carrie Fisher Has Lost 40 Lbs (20 kgs) For Her Role in Star Wars: Episode 7!

star wars

Carrie Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds stopped at Universal Studios Hollywood to tell “Extra’s” Mario Lopez about her “Hollywood Motion Picture Collection” auction and revealed that her daughter has lost forty pounds as she gears up to play Princess Leia again in Star Wars: Episode 7

From Antimusic:

Reynolds saying Fisher is preparing for the film in London. “She’s very excited about it… she’s been on a diet ever since, because you know they have to be up to par, so she looks terrific, she’s lost 40 pounds.” “

And here’s Carrie’s latest tweet. Looking good indeed.

After before, slouching toward late during & not near enough to the elusive after……

Yes, I think that is a mis-step right out of the gate. Harrison doesn’t even like the role, he’s doing it for the $$. Han is suddenly going to be more important than Luke & Leia now?

Exactly. Luke is the last of the Jedi and Leia is an important princess/senitor/figure. Han was just the sidekick who could fly the falcon. Wouldn’t he just be some kind of general in epiosde 7? How is it that he’s the bigger part of the story? Big mistake. Hopefully the story is at least told well and Luke and Leia are still a big part.

Luke’s arc is very much done and finished by the end of Jedi. Theirs not much left to do with him as a character. Han probably has a bit more room for development.
Also Harrison Ford is (historically) much better on screen.

Don’t agree- seeing Luke Skywalker come back as an old lightsaber wielding Master would be the big thrill for many of us. Harrison is a much more famous (though not better IMO) actor than Hamill, that is the (political) reason for the change. I personally would have been quite happy if they did ‘7’ without the overrated and mega-expensive Harrison Ford..

“You know the saying, “You’re your own worst enemy”? Well, thanks to the Internet, that’s no longer true. It turns out that total strangers can actually be meaner about you than you ever could amazingly be about yourself. Which is saying a huge amount with me, because I can really go to town hurting my own feelings. I know where they are.”

Hopefully they leave the Jedi stuff to Luke. It would be awesome to see Leia as the chancellor and the badass leader of the new republic with her space buns again. I don’t want to see her in robes and with a lightsaber.

I have always tended to think that she’d be a little of both.

After all, what was one of the first things that Yoda told Luke? “Wars not make one great.”

I could certainly see Luke training somebody like Leia to tap into the Force and use it in a way that augments her own natural talents as a galactic leader and not just in the classic sense of a Jedi Knight.

“A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense. Never for attack.”

There is far more to the Force than mere manipulation of others. That’s why the Jedi were traditionally peacekeepers and diplomats, often sent to serve as intermediaries in negotiations between various planetary entities, warring factions, etc.

Why would those types of Jedi talents not be useful to a galactic leader such as Leia?

    • May 9, 2014 at 4:34 pm

What talents are you talking about? You didn’t mention any. Can the force be used to become a better negotiator or project a peaceful atmosphere into a room? Serious question. Not trying to be a jerk.

Nathan… it’s a work of fiction. Of course it could be written to work that way. We’ve already been told that this is a lot of what the Jedi did to begin with.

Look at how Phantom Menace opened. The Jedi were sent to broker a peace treaty between the Trade Federation and Naboo. You don’t think they were going to do so by swinging their lightsabers around and mind tricking everyone into signing, do you?

Jedi could use their Force talents to project a peaceful atmosphere into the room, as you mention. They could also use the Force to determine what the various participants’ real needs and objections are, as opposed to what they’re saying aloud. Or, they could sense the overall flow of emotion, tension, curiosity, etc. and act in ways to facilitate positive outcomes based on that knowledge.

We have mainly seen the Jedi at war, so I think a lot of our assumptions are based on that. However, it’s not too difficult to see how a Jedi could apply Force training to a variety of peacetime duties that didn’t require a lot of flipping around and flashing their lightsabers.

Hell, even on a more frivolous level outside the scope of anything I’d expect to see in the movies… can you imagine how useful the Force would be to a jazz musician? ;^)

LOL! Well there ya go. ;^)

Actually, I always thought it would have been cool for the Jedi Order, rather than simply indoctrinating kids practically from birth, to spot potential new Jedi based on their ability to maintain their Force sensitivity past adolescence and to incorporate it (whether consciously or unconsciously) into whatever their vocations might have been.

In that sense, you could have a Jedi who originally started out as an unusually gifted musician due to his connection to the Force. Or who was an inventor, or a physician or a detective, or any number of other things. It would create a very interesting diversity among the Jedi, IMHO.

The Waterford Whisperer is serious publishing, on a par with the Sunday Times in the UK. I am totally confident in what Mr. Gleeson has been quoted on. The halting site reconaissance, and bare knuckle fight with a stormtroooper is intriguing. And the fact that space pikeys are renowned for selling ‘gates’ along with CGI dogs proves that the attention to detail the production this film is willing to go.

I think she looks great! I’m not worried about her or Mark. Harrison scares me though. He’s been quite lousey and lazy in everything I’ve seen him in for quite some time. I hope he earns his big payday here by remembering what he did before, and doesn’t just come off angry and bored!

No really, Harrison’s acting is extremely touch and go nowadays. It’s pretty worrying. especially with the rumours about his role being ‘huge’. If JJ doesn’t motive him like hell and doesn’t do 500 takes, then prepare for what may be a little disaster.

Harrison has been awful for a while – it’s true. He also does not respect the fans who have made him rich. He’s certainly no Hugh Jackman in that department. I hope JJ is tough with him.

Lets see what movies has he been in recently? Ender’s game… a piece of shit from the get go… not Harrison’s fault. That alien wild west thing? No one could save that. Indy 4? Yeah, lets see Harrison save a movie that CGI’s in his son swinging with monkeys and multiple gopher cameos. And I thought he did pretty good in that.

Am I missing something? I’m too lazy to IMDB right now.

    • May 10, 2014 at 10:35 am

Disagree. True, Harrison plays more of a side-character nowadays with limited wiggle room acting-wise, but when it comes to the supposed grumpiness, laziness, etc. that many fault his performances for nothing has really changed, as looking back on his other on-screen portrayals such as Fugitive, Star Wars, Six Days and Seven Nights and the like he has always had that edginess to his characters that could come off as angry or perhaps even laid back at times, but in my opinion he acts virtually the same now as always.

As the star of Indiana Jones 4, though, he got to bring much more to the role, hence it would seem that it is with more screen-time that usually one seems to appreciate his fuller range of acting abilities, and he tends to shine more.

and as far as episode V11 The Ancient Fear’
    Flashback!
Luke: There’s more. It won’t be easy for you to hear it, but you must.
If i don’t make it back, you’re the only hope for the Alliance.
Leia: Luke, don’t talk that way. You have a power I…I don’t understand
    and could never have.
Luke: Your wrong, Leia. You have that power too. In TIME, you’ll learn
to use it as I have.
It would be awesome to see Leia having honed her Jedi skills over 30 years
lol and kicking ass with a light sabre. Imagine that! Whoooooo haaaaaaa!

I think the main question is; why does Luke have (need) a sister? Sure… fairytale-wise you need a prinsess. But she doesn’t need to be his sister. I’m guessing she has to save Luke.

    • May 10, 2014 at 4:54 pm

One may indeed ask: what was the narrative “point” of making Leia Luke’s sister in the last of the original movies? Simply to have a “shocker” like the Daddy Vader revelation in the previous movie? It is not handled very “shockingly” at all — Obi-Wan says Luke has a sister and Luke almost instantly concludes it must be Leia (the MAD parody had him pointing out that she is after all the only girl in the movie, so it pretty much has to be her).

The blandness of the “revelation” is indeed a good argument for the Machete Order of watching the six movies, if you really are a complete Star Wars virgin. You see episode IV and V first, then watch the prequels as a long flashback, and end the marathon with Episode VI. I have read a report from a guy who watched the series like this with his girlfriend; she screamed in awestruck surprise when Padme gives birth to a second baby and names that child … “Leia”!

In that way, the blandness of the “revelation” in Return of the Jedi doesn’t matter so much; we are just watching Luke catching up with us, the audience.

But looking at the Original Trilogy in isolation, the “Leia = Luke’s sister” revelation has no other function than to definitely resolve the Han-Luke-Leia love triangle .. which was never really developed anyway. Already in Ep V it is my clear impression that Luke is no longer pursuing any relationship with Leia, instead calmly respecting how she and Han are gravitating towards one another (screaming and kicking and resisting, but still). When Leia kisses LUKE (not the other way around) it is plainly only to annoy Han.

If they did want to go with the “sister” revelation in Ep VI, more should have been made of it, which would have given Leia a more satisfying arc overall. Two lost opportunities: 1) There should have been a moment down on Endor when all seemed completely lost, but Leia remembers what Luke told her and saves the day by unlocking her ability to use the Force. Just some tiny little feat of telekinesis that turns everything around — maybe after they have planted the bombs the remote trigger is lost in the heat of battle, falling down on a ledge beyond their reach, but Leia pulls herself together and realizes she can flip the switch with her mind. 2) Luke AND LEIA should be present when Vader is unmasked. Instead of a protracted death scene on the Death Star, we should just have seen Luke struggle to drag his disabled father towards a shuttle. Then the Death Star blows and there is a moment of tension: Did Luke get off or not? Then he his voice breaks through on radio: Yes, he is alive … but he also tells his sister something to the effect that “very little time left” (which she understands, though a confused Han does not). The shuttle lands, Leia runs in … and the still-confused Han follows, whereupon he is shocked out of his mind to find Luke and Leia kneeling by a barely-breathing Vader. The mask is removed, and Anakin Skywalker gets to see BOTH his children before he expires. Tears flowing from the eyes of both twins, confirming their growth from whiny farmboy and haughty princess to compassionate, mature people (the whole “let go of your hatred” thing doesn’t only apply to those on the OTHER side, right?)

And poor Han would be stunned to gather from the few words said that Vader, Luke and Leia were father and children.

This would also have the advantage that the emotional climax of the movie would FOLLOW the destruction of the Death Star, which feels like little more than an anticlimatic afterthought in the existing movie.

Oh well. Too late to remake it know. Wonder why I even bother writing this.

I think she has to save Luke in the ST from the dark side. I think this story was always there, in some form, in the original script (it used to be 9 episodes from the beginning (even 12 actually). In ROTJ, Luke force chokes 2 gamorrean guards. Not really the jedi way. And even Han thinks he has delusions of grandeur. Safe to say, Luke is on the same path as Anakin. And do NOT forget the most important reason for a Jedi to turn dark… He is wearing black!
