UPDATE 3! Is Daisy Ridley the Other Cast Member who is on Skellig Michael? It’s a Wrap. More Photos of Hamill and Ridley!
Today is the last day of filming on the Irish Skellig Michael Island. J.J. Abrams and crew are on set for a 3 day shoot of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. For the full coverage of the shooting process click here. For now J.J. Abrams and Mark Hamill are the only stars spotted on the island. There are several indications showing that the actors involved with the shoot will be two. Could the second cast member be Daisy Ridley? Hit the jump to find out…
In the first day of filming (before any register tags photos were revealed) one of our sources told us that only 2 actors will be involved with the Skellig filming. Later a confirmation of that info was found on the board with registered tags of every member allowed to visit the island.
When zoomed you could see the words DIRector, Cast, Production, Camera, Costume etc. Under cast there are only 2 missing tags K and OW (illegible from the photo but reported by several local news sites).
So we know for sure that Mark Hamill is one of those initials. Obviously they don’t match with his initials so most likely they are production names. Now if you remember few weeks ago we reported about a supposedly leaked image with the character name KIRA. The guy who posted it said that this is Daisy Ridley’s character name. One of our sources confirmed to us that Kira is a production name and won’t be seen in the actual movie. Still our source didn’t confirm that Kira is Ridley’s character name.
So could this K on the board stand for Kira? Could be. On the day the Skellig Michael shoot begun Daisy Ridley posted this on twitter:
5 AM… We meet again, old friend
— Daisy Ridley (@ridley_daisy) July 28, 2014
Certainly it’s not much but it could suggest that she was not going to Pinewood but to another more distant place. Let’s say a flight from England to Ireland? Also on some of the set images there’s a woman that really looks like Daisy. Here you can see Abrams, Hamill and that mysterious woman.
She definitely looks like Daisy. Or maybe that’s Abrams’ assistant? You decide. By the way here’s amother interesting rumor about the shoot (via thejournal.ie):
An Irish industry source working at the location has hinted that the final scenes of the film could be shot on the island.
Also from some time now there are rumors that Ridley will be using a lightsaber. Here’s another rumor posted by Owen O’Shea, journalist at Radio Kerry:
Still on #starwars watch in sunny Portmagee. No sign of Harrison Ford yet but rumours that light-sabres have been seen on Skellig Michael — Owen O’Shea (@OwenOShea) July 28, 2014
And if you live in Waterville go straight to Butler Arm Hotel and let us know if Daisy Ridley or Kira is staying there 🙂

By the way here’s one crazy speculation that just occurred to me based on these rumors:
So we have Hamill and Ridley, we have rumors about lightsabers, we have rumors about a final scene and we have stunt members on set (from the tag board). So what if one of those two is a bad guy!?! (temporary or not)
We all assume that Ridley is fighting on the side of the good guys. But what if there’s a huge plot twist and actually she’s playing a villain?
Or what if Luke is going through some hard times and is tempted by the Dark Side as his father was?
Or maybe they’re just practising there…
The best thing is that everything is possible and that’s why we all love Star Wars.
Again the last paragraph is a speculation that just occurred to me so don’t take it too seriously.
Another interesting thing is that if indeed K stands for Kira this means that Luke Skywalker’s production name is OW (other sites report that it’s OW, not DW) .
What do you think OW stands for? Apart from the obvious Obi-Wan. 🙂
UPDATE 2!
According to the latest update by the themoviebit, Daisy Ridley was indeed on the set:
UPDATE 30 7 14 1922 Production has now stopped and the crew have wrapped. Daisy Ridley confirmed on location! She shared a scene with Mark Hamill on Skellig Michael
UPDATE 3!
A better quality image with the two and a few new ones: (via kerryseye)
It’s strange that article says that Ridley is a Solo kid like it’s a fact. But most likely they are just speculating.
Also there’s a story on the web that professional wrestler Sheamus O’Shaunessy was part of the shoot. Actually 2 days ago I was about to write a story on it. He tweeted that he was on his way to Skellig and in the past he was used as Darth Vader in a promotion tour for Episode I. I didn’t post it because I got a firm confirmation that the Skellig shoot will include 2 actors and Sheamus is not one of them. Probably he is just trying to get attention.

only two actors, but who knows how many CG characters or force ghosts….
Yeah, there could be an entire droid army on the island!
Or gungans! 🙂
I was thinking more like whoever Andy Sirkis is playing… maybe a sith of some sort, or the ghost of a long dead sith
…and i don’t know if i could emotional handle Luke Skywalker turning to the dark side…
Man up, dude. It’s bound to have happened at some point, so it might as well be on-screen instead of being hinted at like Anakin & Obi-Wan falling into the Gundark nest.
Nahhh, you just cant. Luke is the ultimate good guy!
Just saying that mark hamill would be a so good platying evil
Darth Womprat
Dark Wing
Was about to write that.
Darth Walker
Also, that lady who looks like Ridley looks nothing like Abrams assistant who has red hair.
Yes, I don’t see Ridley at all, she doesn’t have the same body.
Red hair or red wig? Assistant or actress?
JJ’s assistant has red hair. Not any actress. Sorry my grammar was not legible at first.
Are you absolutely sure about that – that she has been his assistant for long enough to be sure that she’s always been around, and not just for SW7? And even if that is the case, is it actually the same girl here? Remember the red wig Karen Gillen said was made from her hair that was for the SW production team – where does that fit in? JJ is nothing if not conspiratorial when it comes to his movie secrecy.
Karen Gillen has since said that the wig was meant to be for her use for filming a sitcom while her actual hair grows back, not Star Wars VII. Of course, the fact that she even brought that up is interesting in and of itself.
Exactly! It’s such a random and unlikely comment to make that it smells of truth.
OK, it’s a bit of a stretch, but I guess it could be Ridley.
Daddy Warbucks
Clearly D.W. is for Darth Wookie.
Darth Vader (it’s just shifted a letter)
D.W. = “Darth Vader 2” (V.V. = W. = 2)
Or…
By the end of the movie, Daisy finally finds Luke in a small island on a remote planet, and… TWIST! Luke is a sith!! They start to fight, but finally we understand that Luke was just testing her (as Yoda did with Luke when he arrives in Dagobah).
I actually like that idea. He could be testing to see if she can kill a loved one if necessary perhaps.
It’s interesting that Daisy’s sister tweeted a picture of them both together, and Daisy retweeted it saying “With my sister :D”. I can totally imagine that JJ has asked cast members to lie about their whereabouts on twitter and stuff. After all, he takes his secrecy to a whole other level. Just a thought. I really don’t want Daisy’s character to be dark side though, she seems like the perfect fit for a spunky new female role to the main trio like Leia. Plus if Luke turns to the dark side then that’s just taking a dump on the OT. He was the main character after all, and the story was that he didn’t turn to the dark side like his father. I mean that’s the whole point. I don’t think JJ and team are that dumb, but maybe he is after all.
If she was told to lie, then she did not do a good job, because based on this:
https://twitter.com/ridley_daisy/status/493103795984154624
I would say it was a photo they took last Saturday.
That picture may have been taken over the weekend. She sent out a tweet stating she was watching Ep.IV with her family.
Actually it would not differ from the original plot line as much as you might think. Luke and Leia were never brother and sister. Instead, Luke’s sister was training on another planet. Luke finds her, but turns to the dark side afterwards. Long story short, Luke turns back to the light side, and together with his sister destroy the empire by episode 9
Except you’re forgetting they both could feel the connection of being brother and sister…
He’s not talking about the movies that GL ultimately made, but what his original story treatments were for a series going 9-12 episodes long. GL shortened it for a tidy little ending in Episode VI when he originally intended the saga to be much longer…
If this is the end of the movie then this is were “Kira” will go to be trained by Luke.Think this is Yavin temple location and they will CGI the rest of the jungel planet in around.
I’m thinking the same. If this is the end of the movie, I’m picturing she finally finds Luke on this remote Island. I can see Episode 7 ending with her beginning her training as a Jedi.
DW = Darhomiri Witch.
Also, although that photo looks somewhat like Daisy Ridley, the hair colour seems too light.
Don’t believe they go to such a fantastic location only to put in a cartoon jungle. But I agree the final moments may be Kira starting her Jedi training (so that EpVIII can open with her as Jedi.
Oh, and because of the beard…
Darth Whiskers
This does remind me of a past rumour (http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2014/06/rumor-possible-star-wars-episode-7.html)
– the Millennium Falcon was parked on a cliff above the wooded area, with a Jedi and Sith (both male) battling uphill towards the Falcon. The scene was oddly lit, possibly suggestive of the Falcon being on fire.
– a further scene, set in a clearing on this same planet, showed an older male Jedi and male Sith – his head bare and lower face covered by a half mask ‘reminiscent of CA’s Winter Soldier’ – squaring off before a duel. The poster said the scene had a ‘Samurai movie feel’, and was under the impression that the male Jedi was Luke.
– finally, the poster described a female Jedi exiting a crashed X-wing like craft, lightsaber drawn and ready to fight. Not sure if this was on the same planet.
It doesn’t all add up but there might be some truths here. We know Luke is there are Mark is there. Maybe Daisy is that female jedi. Maybe the ‘wooded area’ is the forest of dean shoot that’s took place, and this ‘cliff’ is this current skellig shoot.. Bit of a stretch I know but could be partially accurate
I just hope they making the Sequel to Blue Harvest, as that was a great movie in 1983!
Ok, here’s a thought:
There’s been talk of a lightsaber battle that takes place moving up a steep hill, with the Falcon burning in the background. Others have speculated already , quite reasonably, this could be the scene of that battle.
I don’t think that JJ and co would do anything as naff as having Luke turn to the Dark Side. What I do think, and what I’ve also seen hinted at / speculated in other forums, is that Luke’s time in exile has left him coldly utilitarian and pragmatic to the point of callousness, willing to sacrifice the few to save the many.
What if, somehow, reluctantly, Luke sacrifices Han in order to save the galaxy? And what if DR’s character, seeing her friend / guide / mentor -possibly even father? – killed this way, unleashes all her natural Force gifts and sabre skills on Luke?
Nah, that’s a naff idea:p
Still believe this is Luke’s home now..
Is anyone else excited to see what role Gleeson has? To me he could either be Luke’s son or a member of the Kenobi clan.
Seems too old to be Daisy.
And the read head from that woman will start new rumors…
Do you mean Red head/wig?
The Red Wig rumor was debunked.
Believe what you will but Karen’s original statement was oddly specific. Seems like a good candidate for a cover-up.
Just like Khan! Don’t forget, we’re dealing with JJ Abrams here!
That’s true.
Debunked by who?
Enlighten us!
By Karen Gillan herself. Kinda…
https://uk.yahoo.com/movies/karen-gillan-explains-mystery-of-her-missing-hair-93209168361.html
VH – (Well, she would say that, wouldn’t she?)
Have you looked closely at that photo of ‘Daisy’ getting off the helicopter? To me, that profile isn’t hers – her profile looks ‘perpendicular’ in the sense that the end of her chin is directly in line the top of her forehead.
Telephoto lens can alter ones perception.
Viral Hide – The DW is so coincidental that it’s either true, a red herring or JJ’s sarcastic sense of humour, e.g. DW stands for Dathomiri Witch?
What are your thoughts? Think I’m barking up the wrong tree here?
Apologies, I meant i.e. and not e.g.
If it’s the final scene then I could see it play out like this….Everyone is searching for Luke throughout the movie. Towards the end of the movie Daisy, in search of Luke, was told to go to Skellig Michael island and she would find him there. Upon her arrival she is confronted by the villain (who deceitfully told her to go to the island) and a light saber dual ensues. During the fight she eventually becomes overwhelmed and loses her light saber and she is knocked to the ground by the villain. There is a pause in the action as the villain says a few choice words like, “Finally, now the Skywalker line ends”. The villain raises his light saber above his head. As he motions downward, his light saber is suddenly blocked by another light saber….Luke’s. This is where Luke makes his grand entrance to save Leia’s daughter (the last of the Skywalker bloodline) from dying.
She leaves the island in her space craft while Luke remains to battle the villain. Luke is about to kill the villain (Driver) when he is suddenly struck down by a mysterious never before seen force greater than force lightning. Enter the 2nd villain (Von Sydow – Palpatine’s brother). Luke is captured and brought to the villains’ ship. Here the two villains tempt Luke to the dark side (in similar fashion at the end of ROTJ), except they are also joined by the force ghost of Darth Sidious…3 against 1. Luke is resisting, but suddenly the 3 villains bring in Han and Leia. Han is killed by Von Sydow then he turns to kill Leia. Luke, in fear of also losing Leia, suddenly seems to turn to the dark side as his eyes turn light brown (just as Anakin’s did). The end. Time to wait for Episode VIII.
First paragraph sounds awesome. Second, not so much.
First paragraph could be one of the final scenes, meaning Luke isn’t in much of episode 7, but it would be such an awesome climax. Luke easily overwhelms and possibly kills the driver character. Not sure if Von Sydow should be introduced or not. If he is, then Daisy and Luke confront him, leading to what appears to be a stalemate. Von Sydow does an evil laugh, then proceeds to resurrect driver — turning the tables of the fight. He casts the mysterious super force energy and forces Luke and Daisy to retreat. Couple more scenes of Luke catching up with others and discussing the new enemy. Final scene is Von Sydow discussing plan with driver, making things seem pretty bleak for the jedi.
Naff!
Shush, you redcoat.
I tawt I taw a puddy cat!
Ian McDiarmid said he isn’t in the movie, and that he wasn’t trying to pull off some masterful ruse. He directly stated that Palpatine is dead.
Also, I believe that George Lucas has said that Sith can’t come back as Force Ghosts, or something to the effect (Anakin being the exception given that he redeemed himself). Darth Bane appeared in The Clone Wars, but it was an illusion – not the real Darth Bane.
Pomo – So is there any canon material that states that? Or is it just coming from Lucas who is not writing or directing this movie?
Besides, you have to be dead in order to be a force ghost anyway. So Ian would technically not be lying.
if you believe that Lucas’ story treatments and general ideas for how star wars will progress into the future won’t be a massive part of episode 7 and onwards, then you haven’t been paying attention.
Wow! Great report!!! But that woman doesnt really look like Daisy, daisy is skinnier. But daisy did tweeted at the end of the first day that she was ‘going to take two baths’, maybe she is filming some action there?
Depends on the angel I guess. Here is a recent photo of her with her sister:
https://twitter.com/ridley_daisy/status/494372909348302848
On her sisters ig there is a pic of her in bikini, believe me she is way thinner than that woman in the pic, no matter the angle. But anyway she is apparrently confirmed
Looks like her to most, dude cameras lie.
No reason to go to the dark side Luke now almost 60 years old
By the way, it’s just confirmed:
http://www.themoviebit.com/2014/07/star-wars-episode-vii-in-portmagee-co.html
Yes Dasy Virall! http://www.themoviebit.com/2014/07/star-wars-episode-vii-in-portmagee-co.html
Haha, I love it!
I thought I was commenting on a different person’s comment.
Can see Ridley fighting off a sith on this planet and getting severally injured then Luke comes into frame “I’m Luke Skywalker, I’m here to rescue you”
Made me laugh
In the first photo Daisy is really beautiful.
One of the initials under “stunts” is CB. Could that be Chloe Bruce. Possibly Daisy’s stunt double?
Nice catch!
The dream circumstance for me is that Daisy is the daughter of Leia and Han, so therefore Luke is her uncle. The idea of seeing a very sweet uncle/niece bond including jedi training is something I love. Very similar to old-ben and luke’s sincere bond.
Are you guys aware we’re all possibly spoiling the end of the movie looking at the details of this scene? We’re sad people!
For the folks who want Daisy, Boyega, and everyone else in the film to be a Jedi…
If they’re all Jedi, then what’s unique and special about the Jedi?
This is supposed to be a very small, exclusive group in the galaxy.
Everyone having Force powers and wielding a lightsabre will kill the magic.
Who’s saying they want everyone to be a Jedi?
Every Tom, Dick and Harry on the internet it seems like.
It says O W not D W.
How are you guys getting DW from a blurry, muddy image? ;
Now the million dollar question: what in the heck is the relationship between Luke Skywalker and Daisy Ridley’s character?
Old man with lots of Imperial credits banging young gold digger.
DW on hamill’s chair/trailer stands for Darth Walker
That Daisy has a very attractive head-shot. She looks elegant. However, in the photo above she is the opposite.
First Hamill Ridley photo here!http://lh3.ggpht.com/-km4sfp2rp2A/U9ljEOj1kVI/AAAAAAACGBs/Brl-bpNFk48/s1600-h/10550834_10152156067065806_5013982959701658797_n%25255B5%25255D.jpg
Edit- lol http://makingstarwars.net/2014/07/wrestler-sheamus-skellig-michael-rumored-play-iconic-character-star-wars-episode-vii/
Not a fan of the DS Luke idea, always possible I guess though.
I think this may be a situation where individual scenes are shot in separate locations but plot wise it’s all the same place.
Darth Sheamus?
I really can’t be the only one who thinks Daisy could pass for an “almost” splitting image of Padme..
So if Luke had any children do you think Daisey might be his and not Han and Leia’s?
DW are Luke’s initials. He’s using a different name, like Obi-Wan.
Like Dobi-Wan, you mean? Unless the initials are actually OW and not DW, like someone has commented. Which then brings us back to
Obi-Wan. Hmmm!
Mix- I thought the same thing when the first cast announcement was made.
Could the third one in the journal picture be Sheamus? Blue shirt, beard sunglasses and, yes… Same location! @WWESheamus: https://twitter.com/WWESheamus/status/493911225831788546
Holy Sith, and today I read a rumor that this guy would play Vader in future Star Wars projects….
Hulk Hogan will be playing Emperor Palpatine also.
That beard Mark’s sporting looks amazing.
Maybe Mark Hamill is playing a character called “Mr. Spaceman” who tries to kidnap Daisey Ridley to take her to his space planet house. Maybe that’s it.
Dark Wizard.
The D is actually an O and it “old wizard” kinda like that crazy old wizard Ben Kenobi. Luke is the “crazy old wizard” now
Dora Winifred is the lead character in Star Wars Episode VII: Crazy Bus.
D.W. = Dluke Wskywalker
D.W. = Duke Whiskywalker
Now… will Luke seem to recall ever owning a droid?
Just a thought, maybe what was filmed is (one of ) the wrap up/aftermath scene that every SW movie has had.
TPM had the Obi-wan/Yoda convo, Jinn funeral, and Naboo parade.
AotC had the Yoda/Mace/Obi convo and Wedding scene.
RotS had the birth scene, Obi on Tatooine, and Vader wake up scene.
ANH had the medal scene.
Empire had the med ship window/convo with Luke and Lando.
RotJ had the Ewok party and Vader funeral.
Maybe what will be shown is Luke and Daisy’s character training then he takes her to the top of island and has some sort conversation with her. Maybe about being proud she resisted the dark side. Or warning her to be cautious. Maybe telling her she will have a bigger role to play in the future. Etc.
BBC COVERAGE: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28571902
Luke looks like The Dude! Amazing!
must have been a short shoot … marks in liverpool at the moment , dont ask me where or how i know , he is though
Yes, it’s been a 3 day shoot. It’s in the second sentence of the article. 🙂
you mean the article that said they where filming today
Well the article is dated July 30. It’s from yesterday with few new updates.
Someone’s finger slipped on the keyboard. Should be SW, but they pressed D instead
Breaking news; Mark Hamill has slipped and broken HIS ankle! OH FOR F- No no no just kidding
Wow. The three day shoot is reportedly for a scene that lasts only about a minute long.
I’m sure it was an exaggeration. It may only be a couple of scenes, but 1 minute is a bit of a stretch. It doesn’t take 3 days to shoot 1 minute of screentime. And I’m not sure how ‘a local trader’ would know about the shoot lol.
They’re bound to add to what was shot on the island when they’re back in the studio – extra scenes, special effects, CGI, more actors?
Although I highly doubt Sheamus is actually in this movie in any way. If he were to be in it and if he were playing Vader the only logical reason would be to recreate the Vader/Luke “fight” scene on Dagobah from ESB. If Luke is training Daisy’s character maybe she needs to face the same “test” that Uncle Luke did in some way. Just a theory.
What’ is interesting to me is where is leia in all this they are keeping carrie fisher incredibly quiet
Is it really true the rumour that the filming in Skellig Michael island is for final scene and Hamill only will appear ONE MINUTE???????
That girl getting off the helicopter in the dark glasses and ponytail is probably Mark Hamill’s daughter (she can be seen in other photos with him and his wife and son).
There is a photo of her, in The Mirror newspaper today, sitting on the grass relaxing while JJ stands nearby with a banana in his hand. She’s wearing similar clothes to that helicopter photo.
http://www.theonion.com/articles/star-wars-episode-vii-filming-angers-bird-experts,36593/
All right, if the rumor that the cast is out looking for Luke Skywalker, and the scenes on the island are only between Luke and Kira/Whateverthey’llcallher, then it is reasonable to assume that Kira is the only one in the group to actually find Luke. Maybe Luke lets her find him? Maybe she has an intuition for it, or can sense his presence? And maybe, just maybe, we have been lead to believe that she’s been with the group all the time but when she finally faces him, she reveals her true (dark) side and engages him in a fight – OR NOT. Still, the possibilities… If this takes place in the middle of the film or thereabouts, she might just happen upon him and start her training.
I’m not really buying the whole end of the movie bit. It was rumored the first movie ended on Skellig as well. It would seem odd if both movies ended the same way. I would think that they would have wanted to get everything they wanted over this shoot, and it sounds like things went well. Though since Rian Johnson was filming this bit, if there were yet another return in episode 9 that the third director would be capturing those shots.
