UPDATE! Rumor: Possible Name for Daisy Ridley’s Episode 7 Character? Kira is not a Real Character Name!

Daisy-Ridley1Since new Episode 7 rumors have been few and far between lately, I thought I’d share one with you that concerns a possible character name. Be warned, however – as it currently stands, this rumor is fairly shaky, even by normal standards. But given the current shortage of more likely rumors, I thought that this might at least give us a little something to kick around this afternoon. (And who knows? There could even end up being something to it.)

This latest rumor comes to us from MakingStarWars.net, which reports the following via a source named “Darth Simon” at the Jedi Council Forums at TheForce.Net. We have been following Darth Simon’s posts at TF.N for the past few months, and it appears that he may have a source within the Episode 7 production. His latest post has piqued our interest enough to share it with you.

“Ok here we go. This could possibly be significant. Here is some info from the winnebagos at the Puzzlewood shoot.”

"Kira" sign - Episode 7  "Rocker" sign - Episode 7

“This is what could be the Daisy character name. And another kind of creature involved.”

Darth Simon does go on to say that he has tried to dig up a second source to corroborate this rumor, but has had no luck so far. When asked by another poster if his source was sure that this was Daisy Ridley’s character or perhaps another female character, Darth S. had this to say:

“They say its most likely Daisy. But can’t as certain as with stuff before.”

IF these photos are legitimate and these actually are signs that hung on the actors’ trailers during the shoot at Puzzlewood, then my first thought (echoed by our friends at MSW.net as well as by Darth S. himself) is that these are probably fake names being used during the production, a’la “Blue Harvest”. It actually makes a bit more sense that this would be the case, given the extreme (and, let’s be honest, rather impressive) amount of secrecy that surrounds this production.

That said, “Kira” certainly sounds like it could be a name from the Star Wars universe. Then again, apply a wee bit of imagination and it could very easily be a sly reference to Keira Knightley – who played Padme’s decoy in Episode I.

Kiera Knightley - Phantom MenaceAnd what the deuce is a “Rocker”, anyway? (I mean, other than the opposite of a “Mod”?) Some critter that camouflages itself as a rock? An evil bandit who hucks rocks at people’s heads? Wayne and Garth in space? Who can tell? Again, it could very easily be a production code name for something completely unrelated to anything geological.

Flash Gordon - Rock PeopleNaturally, we will keep our collective ear to the ground for any further information on this rumor and provide you with any updates. For now… go to it, friends. What do you all think?

UPDATE!

Hey guys, Viral here. I’ve just received a confirmation from a legit source that Kira is definitely not a real character name from the movie. Still that doesn’t mean that the name is fake. My bet is that it’s just a production name used during the filming.

When they were making Episode 1, I read a rumour describing a scene that involved a devil-like antagonist who fought with a double-bladed lightsaber.

Well and good so far, hm?

But then, the source was tolerably certain that the name of that character was … PANAKA!

LOL! Oh man, I think I actually remember that!

And yeah, my money is on this being fake names used by the production, or else a bunk rumor altogether.

But hey, it’s grist for the comments mill, and we’ve been a bit short on that recently. ;^)

Actually, Kira was in George’s original outline for the sequels as a tribute to kurosawa, a major influence on Lucas’ saga. I know this cause I went to school with his son Jett. Of course, it could have changed. Plus, it’s highly unlikely a major character’s name would be listed/posted anywhere during production, considering all the secrecy.

Rockers could be a code name for ‘miners’ – maybe there is a mine involved.
Kira could literally be a play on words – meaning, like stated in the DEKKA’s article, that the name is a ‘decoy’ – possibly for a character or actress.

Indeed, isn’t Lucas or JJ a big fan of Kurosawa. Perhaps the plot is based on a Kurosawa story – Hidden Fortress, maybe?

As a matter of fact I watched Hidden Fortress a couple of months back. It’s a terrific movie, and has a plot perfect for a Star Wars movie, involving 2 greedy but likeable rogue types who are paid to escort a disguised princess and her general through enemy territory.

Its better than starting off a sentence with “lol”. The reason i said only Gwendoline Christie, is that i think she is the only female that they have cast that has ability to carry a Star Wars movie. So do you want to go into more detail how that my comment is “an example of the inept movie going audience” ?

          • July 19, 2014 at 9:47 pm
            Permalink

(Academy award winner) Lupita Nyongo isn’t a female cast member with the ‘ability’ to carry a star wars movie? No, I really don’t have to go into detail after those comments of yours. It’s simply an incorrect belief. Which, as I say, proves that a lot of the movie going audience are still rather inept in what they believe are good and bad judgments when it comes to potential female leads. But sure, me saying ‘lol’ negates my entire point if you don’t have a decent argument yourself apparently..

Some peoples acting skill’s don’t translate to other film genres and i don’t care much about award ceremonies. I didn’t watch 12 years a slave so i’m not going to say that Lupita Nyongo can carry a Star Wars film just because some film judges that i don’t know thought she should get an award. Stop being pretentious.

          • July 19, 2014 at 11:35 pm
            Permalink

The fact of the matter is, there are hundred of actors and actresses who can play the lead character. You’re original statement “Only if its Gwendoline Christie.” Is shortsighted and stupid. Then you claimed that out of all the cast actresses, she was the only one who had the chops to do the lead. Carrie Fisher is the only actress cast in the film who is not up for the lead as she is coming back as an established character that is to old for a coming of age story anyway. Everyone else has the potential to fill such a character. If I’m honest, your statement about Gwendoline being the only one to be able to play the lead, is probably ironically the one I would rule out straight away as I think the majority would agree she’s too old for a lead in a coming of age story. Also, I think the majority would agree that my suggestion of Lupita would be perfectly fine. To then say I’M being pretentious for simply pointing out an example of Lupita Nyongo, hence putting even a tiny sprinkle of logic into perspective, is hysterical. The film’s story and genre have no effect on an actors ability to play a character. The only thing which will effect the actors ability to play a character, is the character itself. For example, an 80 year old cannot play the lead character if the character is to be in it’s 30’s. A disabled actor cannot play the lead character if the character is called to run. To say Lupita Nyongo might not be able to play the lead character because she hasn’t been in a sci-fi film, is ridiculous. That doesn’t change anything. She has the logistical chops for the main character, and the clear ability to act the main character, after 12 years a slave, and me simply pointing out the academy award win from it is a further boost to that claim. You clearly could not debunk my claim, so you have just called me pretentious instead.. To make such a stupid judgement call without seeing 12 years a slave anyway so therefore you have no ability to make the judgement call in the first place, reveals to me that the stupidity of some people is even worse than I feared.
