UPDATE! Rumor: Possible Star Wars: Episode 7 Plot Details Revealed.

Luke Skywalker

The latest Star Wars: Episode VII plot rumor comes from BadAssDigest. I have a huge respect for Devin Faraci but when I read this my first thought was that this is the most ridiculous story I’ve ever read. I might be wrong of course but I’ll leave you to decide…

From BadAssDigest:

POTENTIAL SPOILERS!

Imagine the standard Star Wars crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see… a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber.

That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life. They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people.

Tatooine

Their quest takes them off world, and they meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, who aren’t flying around in the Millenium Falcon anymore but are piloting… well, that could be a spoiler. I’ll leave it. Anyway, Han and Chewie recognize the light saber as Luke’s, and they say they haven’t seen their friend in thirty years, since the events of Return of the Jedi.

So begins a quest to find the missing Jedi Master. Meanwhile, on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems…

There’s more, of course – this is just the broadest of outlines, a basic synopsis. On the one hand I sort of roll my eyes at the story echoing A New Hope, but on the other I like the propulsive quest concept. I’m hearing extremely positive things about the action, and very, very good things about the characters themselves and the way the actors are bringing them to life. Again and again I’m hearing that John Boyega owns this movie.

Well, there you have it. Sounds ridiculous but one thing is interesting though. This is the maybe the fourth rumor suggesting a search for Luke plot development for the movie. What do you think?

UPDATE!

thisisinfamous offered their take on the story (MORE POTENTIAL SPOILERS):

hand

EPISODE VII will open with the traditional crawl, spelling out where we are and giving us some indication as to where that familiar galaxy far, far away rests all these years later since RETURN OF THE JEDI. Then once it fades off-screen, we will indeed get this floating hand with lightsaber floating through space… well, sorta. My sources indicate that the hand is a bit too gruesome of an image to kick off the new trilogy of films with, but Luke’s lightsaber that would have been set free from Cloud City as he was released into dangling from its weather vain will be there front and center.

From there, it will be discovered in the desert – most certainly NOT Tattoine as I was told – by some sort of non-human, alien creature, much like the Jawas came across a pair of droids back at the front end of A NEW HOPE. From there, it will quickly come into the hands of John Boyega, who will in fact be a Stormtrooper… or at least WAS a Stormtrooper before the defeat of the Empire… and Daisy Ridley’ character, who still remains mysterious in nature. That will set in motion some events that will bring about a search for Luke Skywalker, who has essentially fallen off the grid, unseen by all, since the Rebel Aliance’s victory, but the lightsaber is by no means the main piece of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII that drives the story. As it was explained to me, it is more of a through-line of the Skywalker legacy that connects the prequels to the Original Trilogy to this new trilogy. Imagine you would saw the prequels first. When Obi-Wan presents Anakin’s lightsaber to his son, that’s some pretty cool connective tissue. That’s the spirit in which this detail exists, so those of you crying over EPISODE VII being the return of Luke’s hand, take a deep breath and calm down. That’s not the case.

adam driver

However, soon after you will quickly learn what is at the heart of EPISODE VII’s story, as there will be a large-scale battle sequence involving Adam Driver, who I can confirm with my sources will be the main villain (no Jedi hunters involved). It is this battle sequence that will really set things in motion for what lies ahead.

Also true is this massive weapon capable of destroying more than just planets like Alderaan… whole galaxies are in danger of being wiped out. This threat will be in the hands of a new villainous entity, although there is some question about whether or not the Empire may have some sort of involvement before this new trilogy is complete. It certainly won’t be full-scale as it was before in the Original Trilogy, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have some sort of residual presence. It won’t be with the Emperor in any way though; that’s a certainty… but think more along the lines of neo-Nazis than the full Nazi regime, and you’ll get a clearer picture.

This new report mentions Luke’s Cloud City hand which is more than ridiculous. Still some parts of this rumor sounds cool.

Apparently it’s not the hand of Bespin but of a more recent happening. But I don’t see a hand entering a planet’s atmosphere and not burning up. Unless it’s his bionic hand but it would be scorched.

Even his bionic hand would vaporize into nothing upon reentry, without any kind of heat sheilding to protect it.

I think this sounds ridiculous and unlikely.

    A) Luke’s severed hand falls from the sky? Enough said.
    B) Returning a light saber to God knows whom does not sound like a reason to leave your life and venture out into the galaxy
    C) A third Death Star, this time even “deathier”? Give me a break…

And no mention of the identity of the third member of the “trio of new young leads”? That’s how you know this is made up. They don’t want to take the chance of guessing the third actor and being proven wrong in the near future. So they only named the safe guesses for leads: John and Daisy.

Um, obviously I’m in the minority here but personally I think this sounds awesome. Be it Lukes hand or Vaders. Yes, it would burn up before hitting the ground in OUR galaxy. But maybe the Force itself lowered the hand down so the characters could find it. And no matter the plot of the new movie I will love it simply because what will be will be no matter if I gripe about it.

The Question is who cut off Luke’s hand? Is it a Robotic hand? It can’t be the hand and Saber he lost to Vader. That would have fallen to the ground or stayed in planets gravity. Could it really be Vaders hand? The one he lost in Jedi.

Fans these are just more made up rumors. Having Lukes severd hand and lightsaber would be cool to have in the movie, but i doubt it would just be flying in outerspace. When Vader cut it off in EST ( ep.5 ) it did fall, but not float in the skies up to space and then travel 30 years to Lukes home planet cause that would be stupid. The best idea for that hand would be that some kind of eveil scientist from the old empire, or maybe a sith, or bounty hunter either found it, or got it, or stole it from another eventually leading up to a possible cloning of Luke and the Jedi are able to stop it before the clone is fully developed. Something like that. If the hand and lightsaber iz in the movie, i really doubt it would just float in space for 30 years let alone be in space at all…. I know Kasdan and Abrams, even Lucas is not that dumb and gullible. If the hand is in part 7, im sure they will fit the story alot better than that crap…..

I have also read that this is indeed the plot. Episode 8 continues with the discovery of Anakin’s arms and legs floating around in space but nowhere near Mustafar. From what was reported in the article, Anakin’s limbs are discovered in the atmosphere of Yavin. They are using Yavin as a “tie-in” to the original trilogy. When you really think about it, these spoilers are obviously true.

    • July 21, 2014 at 9:24 pm
      Permalink

That would work great except for the fact that Luke burnt what was left of Vader’s body at the end of ROTJ.

If you’e thinking it’s Anakin’s arms and legs from ROTS, weren’t his limbs burned up by lava after Kenobi cut them off? Even if they were not, after 30 years, the body parts would be decayed.

      • July 21, 2014 at 11:08 pm
        Permalink

Vader’s hand was cut off in the Throne Room which was BEFORE Luke burnt what was left of his body.

This damn movie better revolve around the Solo kids and Ben Skywalker!!! Not some new character (John Boyega) I’m not trying to sound like a jerk but… You better not be the main focus of the next 3 movies!!!!!!

Spoilers!!! It starts off with a battle over tatooine and Liea dispatches artoo to find Luke on the planets surface. She is not on a diplomatic mission. Her daughter on on board as well jettisons the ship. Boyega crash lands chasing Daisey in her new mquarrie version of X wing. Daisey is on a quest to find Luke who has trained her, she senses that Boyega has force capibilites. They find a drunken one leg piolt in a cantina and go off world with him…more spoilers!!! Solo does not know that he is Daisy Ridley’s father, but She does know he is her dad. The hand everyone is talking about is now owned by the night sisters gotten from Palpatine via Mara Jade…who is now dead. Jade’s son played by Domhnall Gleeson, he hates his father and his cousin. Everyone thinks Max Von Sydow is a Sith, he is not he is a Tarkin like commander. Jade’s son is being lured to the dark side by Adam Driver a resurrected Sith who comes to being at the end of the movie by the Sith witches. The super weapon is a relic death Star that is out in the far reaches of space from old republic era. It is smaller and more powerful, built by the original order of the Sith. Liea has 3 scenes in this movie and dies, she is ill from injury in beginning of space battle. Han dies to save Chewbacca . Luke dies at the very end of the film to save Daisy and Boyega and is force ghost in next movie training two Jedi in next film on two different sides of the galaxy. Big spoiler!!!
Luke Skywalker kills his son at the end of film to save his niece, but then pulls an obi wan in a different way to fool Driver . Han is by leia’s side when she dies as she holds his hand and she says that Daisey is his daughter and he says I know.
Listen people I got to go JJ is coming down the hall so I got to get back to work…he gets mad if I don’t mop the floors right.
I’ll cite my sources later and sorry about this rushed post. Plus somebody has to do something with BadAss digest, they always mess up what I tell them!
P.S. Han is on tatooine trying to win back Falcon in Sabacc game he was piloting the Ghost from Rebels…it is really messed up!!! And chewy can’t fixes it!

The sequel trilogy is based on limbs and body parts. Various characters will be on a quest to locate Luke’s hand, Vader’s hand, Anakin’s arms/legs, Mace’s arm, Darth Maul’s bottom half, Jango Fett’s head, Count Dooku’s head, and also Luke’s head (from the Dagobah cave). Each film will introduce a body part floating in space after the opening crawl. By the end of Episode 9, all of these body parts are assembled to create a type of super humanoid who will attempt to wipe out the Jedi and the Sith. This will then lead to another trilogy of films which Disney and Lucasfilm are currently negotiating to produce.

This vaguely reminds me a supposed script for Indy IV I read on the Internet a very long time ago, “Indiana Jones and the Sons of Darkness” if I remember correctly. There, the bad guys where searching for body parts from some of the baddest guys in history: Atila, Hitler, Nero, etc… There also was something involving Noah’s Ark, I think…

At least part of the above would fit in with the supposed audition script for a female lead (guessing the role Daisy Ridley is playing) who is said to be holding a lightsaber but not knowing what it is other than it is very old. Suggests the Jedi are not around any more. That particular lightsaber does connect luke and his father though and would not be surprised if it somehow made an appearance to be passed on again. Other sources suggesting Boyega is playing a stormtrooper who has deserted his unit as well.

Personally I think the title crawls will happen and fade up and out as usual, then the milenium falcon comes flying into shot, where they do some long uncut cg sequence where it’s flying around trying to evade some tie fighter or something and then the camera pans into the cockpit and we see Han and Chewie piloting and giving some classic OT styled banter between them. Then they avoid the falcon or it’s destroyed somehow, then they establish that they are on their way to see leia or luke or something about some recent crisis or whatever. Then the film develops from there. I just have a hunch that JJ will want the film to start with a bang and some pace, give some questions to the audience (JJ loves his mystery), and also make the audience feel a very clear connection between to the OT as soon as possible, and this seems like a very JJ way to capture all of that. Just my theory.

It can never end up at the other end of the planet, escape the atmosphere, only to end up in space again, then to to crash onto another planet without burning up and both the hand and lightsaber surviving the landing in pristine condition. Even if this is referring to an event outside ESB… No.

So with that being said no way in hell man, its way to ridiculous start it like that. They also stated that from what knowledge they know, Arndt script started more or less like this with riddley and bonyega searching for Luke. What further info I have been told is one has no clue what the script is now and most rumors of the script are leaks from Arndt and Lucas’s treatment. The other wont tell me a damn thing because of job security purposes and of him trying to further his imprint on the franchise down the road.

I heard the same thing, only it was Jar Jar’s tongue.

Seriously, this sounds like massively BAD fan-fic. Luke’s severed hand somehow manages to find its way back to Tatooine? “Oh, I see, it’s a HOMING hand, is it?” LOL! And obviously one that can somehow travel through hyperspace. (“This severed ol’ mitt may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid.”)

And the Sun Crusher? It was a bad enough Death Star ripoff when it was in the Jedi Academy books, but in an actual movie… oy! Don’t get me schtarted, already!

The problem is there’s little other context for this. What else is going on? There’s a way this works. Ridley and Boreaga are prat of the battle, or one of them is — that Luke is also taking part in, the hand is the robotic one and evidence that Luke has been injured, and there’s a more immediate sense of urgency and understanding of the situation that drives this.

Okay, I know we’re talking about a fantasy world where there can be loud, fiery explosions in the vacuum of space, BUT…

We’re actually to believe that Luke’s lightsaber, which fell into the depths of Cloud City’s central core, managed to be jettisoned into the planet’s atmosphere, levitated its way up through the planet’s gravity well and out into deep space, inexplicably managed to travel through hyperspace to another planet, then descended through that planet’s atmosphere without burning up in the process (“Another happy landing,”)?

Wouldn’t it be much more reasonable for a damned Ugnaught to have found the lightsaber and taken it back to his home world as a souvenir, and then have it fall into the hands of the Episode 7 heroes that way?

This was from a science website “In space we can assume that there would be no external organisms such as insects and fungi to break down the body, but we still carry plenty of bacteria with us. Left unchecked, these would rapidly multiply and cause putrefaction of a corpse on board the shuttle or the ISS. Drifting exposed in the vacuum of space itself, however, this process would rapidly slow to a halt.

The low pressure would initially boil off most of the water and what was left would freeze, halting any biological processes. Depending on the trajectory of the corpse, there might be some warming from the side facing the Sun, but all this would do is accelerate the rate of water loss, leaving only a dried husk. “

Maybe the metals in the hilt of the saber itself are heat resistant that could withstand reentry into an atmosphere. Remember a lightsaber has pure energy coursing through it and I don’t know the exact temp. but I’m pretty sure it’s hot.
But yeah I could see someone finding Luke’s lightsaber and having it on a ship and that ship crashing on whatever planet the characters are on. I also like the idea of having the lightsaber in the movie. Kind of like a link to each trilogy so to speak.

Ok, so maybe this rumor is complete rubbish, or maybe we are missing some details. My first question is: was Luke’s hand from Empire retrievable and could the Empire have held onto it all this time? Even if it was jetisoned outside, would gravitational forces on a gas planet hold something in the middle indefinetly or would it get torn apart? The other thought is, if the Empire had the hand and lightsaber, could they use it to make clone Sith warriors, be tranporting it to a facility and then get attacked by rebel forces? The ship would blow up, but the hand would be in a container protected, and end up on the desert planet. Thoughts?

I was actually thinking something very similar after the update. Possibly a race of scavengers find the hand/lightsaber on Cloud City and are attempting to transport it to Kamino/a Hutt relative/another bidder who has vested interest in it. A battle ensues, and the the freight/cargo become lost in space. Only problem is that it would not make much sense for this to happen thirty years later; it seems way too long of a time frame.

The Luke exile makes sense since it parallels Obi-Wan’s. Maybe he knew of the new “Galactic Destroyer” or whatever you want to call the new super weapon, and was on a mission to destroy it. I really wish they could come up with another threat to the galaxy than this one. I definitely expect Luke to die, and be on Hamill’s quote of “another plane of existence”. I would not be surprised if all of the big three died in order to have the next set of films center around the next group of actors, and have one last hurrah

There’s 2 ways this hand rumor can go.
First, it’s true because Saoirse Ronan said part of her audition was pretending to find a lightsaber and not know what is was – she later said that she didn’t get that part. So Daisy Ridley got that part instead.
Second, it’s fan fiction fiction based on Ronan’s statement.
Regarding the part about a weapon that’s a Galaxy Destroyer; that’s ridiculous, in my opinion.

I’m sorry but this is all just so inane in literally every way. From a creative standpoint it just sounds silly, and the logistics of it too.. Wouldn’t the hand practically be decomposed after 35 years? And how would a hand fallen into the depth of bespin suddenly be jettisoned into outer space and floating around to then land on another planet? All the while still somehow gripping onto a lightsaber.. And now we have a weapon that destroys entire solar systems? I don’t buy any of this for a second. It actually sounds all too George Lucas.

Maybe it’s not the hand from ESB but from a recent event – a crash, a battle or something that happened involving Luke in space or in orbit above said planet. Let’s hope the hand doesn’t appear (that would be complete shite) but I think I could just about buy into the fact that it is a recently lost lightsaber floating through space and not the one from ESB. If this is the film’s MacGuffin, it just lame and lazy.

This is complete nonsense. It amounts to throwing out the baby with the bath water. And I believe it has already been stated they aren’t doing that. If it is true then JJ Abrams has ruined the Star Wars franchise the same way he killed Star Trek.

Since they are going back to Tatooine they the goal is to connect the past with the present. So a much better story is Rota the Hutt seeking revenge for the death of his father at the hands of Luke, Leia and Han.

The film could then begin with a deja-vu adventure on Tatooine where young Anakin is being forced to compete in pod races while his mother and father remain Rota’s prisoners. Then Luke, the driods and his Niece and Nephew must come to the rescue.

After the rescue the real adventure begins.

A rumor that will remain just that.
The hand as opening shot is something that even JJ would not waste the typical opening we all expect. It is too far from the main frame formula of a statwars film. JJ will go outside the box, but some things remain the same.
You can change only so much. If JJ was to reimagine a reboot for the Terminator he would not take out the use of chrome.
Star Wars is Stale without some kind of epic Ship flyby whether a Naboo ship or A probe droid being launched out a Star destroyer.
A hand? Just no way this would be interesting or exciting.

Luke losing his hand a second time would be pretty ridiculous.

Not buying any variation of these hand rumors.

Enjoy this time when we still know next to nothing about this movie. Before long, our assumptions will be laid to rest, at the bitterness and surprise of many. Enjoy this rare moment! Savor it

It makes no sense for Luke’s “Empire” light saber to be floating in space. When he slid down that Shute at the bottom of the platform and fell (he FELL) onto the weather vane, meaning that some gravitational force was present on Bespin and his light saber would have simply fallen to the surface of Bespin.

Is it Vader’s hand from ROTJ? That would be plausible cause his hand is mostly machine then human. Remember Luke took his hand off as well: any who, I hope this is not the story cause its ridiculous. So is Palpatine floating around some where and will make it to Kamino and be cloned. OY VEY!

We need to give JJ some credit. He’s going back to traditional techniques for Star Wars; limiting green screens for actual sets and hitting towards old school methods and rewriting the script to include more of the original cast. Above all he’s a Star Wars fan so I think formula and continuity is definitely on his radar… it will be a ship. The story with this hand opening crap is obviously just a stir just to wind fans up… and as Simon Pegg is a close friend, I’m pretty sure he would put his foot down on that idea!

The thing is that the hand would get nowhere in 30 years. I’m not looking it up but wouldn’t it take us hundreds of thousands of years to reach our closest plant. 30 years of aimless floating in space would destroy the hand and likely lightsaber as it was hit by debris and going through atmospheres.

Plus enough with shoehorning shit in from other movies. Not everything has to be synchronistic. It’s a lazy and hamfisted way of doing things.
But that’s not my biggest gripe. That is that Luke disappeared from his life 30 years ago. If it was by choice then WTF! This is not the character we thought we knew. A guy who would walk away from his family and friends.
If he was taken, why are we just now looking for him? To return a lightsaber!??!! And before you say, maybe they tried to look for him but with no success. Yeah maybe they did so why would finding his lightsaber be a catalyst to try again in your old age?
And finally, I find it extremely hard to believe that the Empire has crumbled into a bunch of warring militant factions. Just blowing up the deathstar and the leader would not stop the Imperial war machine. They certainly had contingency plans for just such an event and have a multitude of fearsome men a’la Tarkin who could easily step in. And furthermore, the deathstar’s destruction was absolutely meaningless. The Empire achieved total control of the galaxy without ever having any deathstar be operational for more than a few hours. They achieved dominance by having a massive fleet of star destroyers, planetary control through garrisoned troops and political control. As far as I can see this is all still very much in effect at the end of Jedi. Point is there would still be a very long war against an Empire that is still more powerful economically, politically and militarily than the Rebels.

Remember the “Academy” from New Hope that Luke wanted desperately to apply to?

It was an *Imperial* Academy. Which means the ranks weren’t only from clones… there were cadets and conscripts, too.

Well, being a huge fan of the Expanded Universe, I think this sounds disappointing. Aside from the goofy hand part, no one has seen Luke in 30 years??!! Come on!!!! There are like 100 books in that time period!! After all the careful bridging and tie ins that Del Rey and Lucasfilm have managed, JJ completely F@#$s it up in one “wave of the hand”!

That’s…just too stupid. Whoever came up with this joke needs to jump off a building or something, the jerk. I’d just lose it if the makers actually did something so stupid–but, as it is, I have every faith in Abrams (well okay I was leery, when I heard Disney was taking over, but my faith is deepening the more I hear about this director), I am certain this is just some punky prank from some bored idiots wanting to make the stomach of general fandom churn in horror. Okay, deep breath….

Has anyone ever considered it might be Vader’s saber? Luke’s saber would have fallen on the ground of Bespin, Vader’s would have fallen out of a Half Built Death Star into space. With Vader’s suit being spotted on set, and Drivers Character being obsessed with Vader, and now Shaemus rumored to be Vader, I’m wondering if there could be a Vader Imposter, or Perhaps Driver is trying to Convince people Vader is still alive.
