Another Rebels Update: Team Photo, Three New Clips.
As the October 3rd debut of Star Wars Rebels inches closer and closer, more previews come to the forefront. Though we know that at least two more shorts are going to air before the premiere, we’ve also got access to a few more clips.
Firstly, we have a clip showing off the physical prowess of Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, and the literal punches he packs for the team, shown below. Secondly, The Hollywood Reporter has provided a preview of the Zeb-centric animated short that will be coming this Monday (which doesn’t seem to be embeddable, so a link will have to suffice). Thirdly, we have another clip giving another overview of the series, also shown below. A word of warning: some non-American commenters on this site have reported difficulty with viewing the clips due to regional issues. It’s likely that these clips will be mirrored, and when they are, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Also, the team behind the show took a photo of themselves, which I’m imagining is a congratulatory gesture on getting work done on the series. Perhaps they finished animating the whole season?

Looks like a lot of fun! Which I know drives a lot of fans here crazy for some reason, because they insist SW must always be taken deadly seriously for some reason. But oh well.
Also, the shot of the TIE Fighter spinning over the ground might just be one of the coolest I’ve seen from the show yet.

This is a Star Wars news website. The show is a forthcoming property that will have a lot of news for it up until its premiere, hence why it’s been so prevalent on this website as of late. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, but please stop complaining about what we should and shouldn’t use this website to report on.

The date when Disney announced the acquisition of Lucasfilm and their desire to make more Star Wars movies and other Star Wars related projects. That essentially states that, in addition to SWEVII, we are bound to report on the other projects that Disney is working on.

Every time I hear them say something like “Jedi” or “Stormtrooper” or any other Star Wars lingo, I can’t help but feel a cold chill up my spine, almost as if they’re mocking it. The voice acting makes me think they’re all going to break out into song sooner or later…

Who ever said Star Wars HAD to be for adults only? It’s supposed to be a franchise for all ages. This series is obviously appealing more to the much younger fanbase, which frustrates me because Rebels is supposed to connect EpIII to EpIV and display the origin of the rebel alliance, which is a series of events in the chronology that should be taken very seriously; not portrayed in this Disney Pixar animation with the cast of Frozen doing the voice acting and just the tiniest hint of Ralph MacQuarrie’s influence to try and get the older fans off their backs. Asking life-long fans to watch and enjoy this is like asking life long fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to enjoy the new Nickelodeon TV series.

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy a lighter and funner take on SW, you know. Despite the grumpy reactions on here or youtube, I guarantee there are still plenty of the OT generation like me who are plenty excited for this show. At least judging from the enthusiastic Comic-Con reactions.
And as to the formation of the Rebel Alliance, Filoni has stated many times that this is just one small group of characters in one corner of the galaxy, who likely only play a small role in the founding of the Alliance. So you are free to ignore them and imagine much more serious goings-on elsewhere if you wish.
I could enjoy the show if it was well written but from what i have seen, its not.
My question is: why would they choose focus on this “one small group” (who must have a large impact on the formation of the rebel alliance, given that their insignia looks almost identical to the starbird), when there’s a galaxy of opportunity for them to make the show far more interesting than it appears to be? How can anyone take a show like this seriously when the characters look like they’re stuck in “duck face” every time they speak? To me, this show seems almost satirical; like they’re mocking the older fan base trying to convince us that this show is so heavily influenced by original OT concepts when it comes out looking like this… Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy my share of cartoons, but this is just ridiculous.
Wtf are you on about? It’s just one group of rebels in the galaxy. They wanted a focused story instead of TCW’s anthology approach.
My point is that they could have just as easily written a focused story centered on a more interesting group of characters that adds to the saga rather than dampening its spirit as a whole. This series takes so much intimidation away from the empire’s “iron fist” rule instead of broadening it as they originally stated it would; it makes the empire seem like some kind of big brother bully force that’s out to pick on citizens who don’t deserve it. What kind of horrible threat to the galaxy’s well-being is that?
When news of this series first hit the internet I was overwhelmed with excitement, thinking we’d finally get to see the Empire’s oppressive impact on each solar system leading into the rebellion we know and love in EpIV. I’ve only become more disappointed with each new clip that’s released. This is all just my opinion, but that’s what I’m “going on about,” Anon
I will admit the Stormtroopers are a little more bumbling and more easily defeated than they probably should be… but frankly I never found them terribly impressive or intimidating in the OT either. It was really Vader and the officers like Tarkin that were the truly threatening ones, and from what I’ve seen that’s the same basic approach Rebels is taking as well.
Plus Filoni has already said that we will see the rebels suffer setbacks and see the Empire get the upper hand now and then. So it’s not just all going to be a cakewalk like the clips have made it look so far.
The fact that the clips they’re revealing make it look like a cakewalk is what’s troubling me in the first place.
There´s no need to suffer at all. Do it my way – I don´t take cartoons as canon. That simple. I´ll watch it eventually, but in my head I´ll just switch to “another Galaxy far far away”…and meanwhile I´m going to enjoy the movies and consider them the only canon…see? Everybody´s happy 🙂
Fans of a franchise should never be forced to do that… It’s heartbreaking.
When my grandmother took me to see Star Wars in 77 I was 3 years old and can still remember small bits from the movie today. It changed my view on the world and opened my eyes. Being a fan for all of these years made me crave new Star Wars material. When clone wars first came out it got ripped up until we slowly came to cherish this new material. A true fan of Star wars would enjoy any new material because from my point of view we have been spoon fed tidbits of a glimpse into this amazing universe. Since the old books are now legends and I have shelled out a ton of cash for a irrelevant drift into chaos, I am finally glad to hear we are getting ready for a new journey of Star Wars platforms. Am I the only one out there who has chills down my spine for what’s to come? Enough of the childish rants and stand up proud to support your true fandom and give rebels a chance to take us on a new journey. Btw, this has to be at least better than atotc right?

The TV movie is airing on October 3rd. The actual series starts on October 13th.

If they really wanted the show to look more “MacQuarrie-ish” they should have taken a lesson from The Star Wars comic series. Now THAT is RM’s concept art in action.

You know what kids say nowadays: If you don’t like it, go away. Not just kids, rather society as a whole.
In a world where you can justify just anything and if you don’t like it simply click it away and go to places where your opinion is welcomed.
Unfortunately this is not how the world works and it will never work.
People like to live in their bubble-world where everything they attend is positive and tend to take criticism personally, because they rely their own personality totally on their taste. If it’s against their taste, it simply is not valid and a direct attack on their personality.
The world is on the brink of becoming a mad world and it is no longer possible to delay the condition. Everything was taken a step too far already, the limit has been broken. Everything that happened after 2000 has been made in debt of humanity’s soul. To call god and wash off your sin’s is no longer valid.
So if you really want to be valid you have to really dig very deep into your soul.
And stuff like Disney’s Star Wars Rebels however entertaining it is, is just a sorry excuse to eat more souls.

You are undoubtedly trying to be really deep, but I don’t think you are going to have the desired impact from whatever this was trying to say.
And by the way, almost every generation since the beginning of time has lamented the state of affairs as the next generation takes over, so I’m afraid your “sky is falling” approach is simply a re-hash of very old ideas. What history has certainly shown is that life goes on, whether you like how it goes on or not.
Last time I checked this was a Star Wars EPISODE SEVEN news website, the majority of us couldn’t give a a damn about these children’s cartoons which have done more to ruin the legacy of Star Wars than the prequels ever could have dreamed of.

See my earlier response to an Anonymous user. Also, not posting news for days would be worse for web traffic than posting news for things that aren’t directly tied to Episode VII.
I would’ve preferred a cartoon geared more toward general audiences that told the story of the Rebel Alliance in those dark times, fosing on characters like Leia, Bail, Vader, Mon Mothma, Wedge, the two droids and Admiral Ackbar and featuring Boba Fett, Jabba, Greedo, Tarkin, etc.
Leia and Wedge would be our main heroes. Ben, too, depending on what he’s up to.
Eh, I’d rather see them try to expand the SW universe beyond just the same handful of characters we’ve already seen in six movies.
Or to have a show that’s focused only on filling in story gaps in the timeline. There’s much more storytelling freedom with the approach Rebels is taking, I think.

I hear you, but give it time. No doubt Disney will thoroughly explore the galaxy’s extensive timeline before they’re done. They’re just starting with some of the most familiar and marketable periods first.

Absolutely correct. While I love SW, I’m the first to admit that it’s because of the mark it made on me as a kid, back in the days of the OT, and not because it’s grown up along with me (IMO, the PT is proof of this).
These days, if it’s mature escapism that I want, I’ll turn to A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, for instance, and not SW. Doesn’t mean that this show won’t be good for a new generation of little kids, though.
I would agree with you guys on this IF they had made Rebels just as kiddy as the OT, and people complained about the stormtroopers still being too goofy or whatnot.
Fact is, the OT was made for general audiences (Ewoks aside) while Rebels is for kids. It shows. Get over your denial.

Alas, keep in mind that Rebels will be airing on the Disney Channel. Not on HBO, Showtime, Starz or something of the kind, but Disney; only like the world’s leading company in entertainment for children.
So obviously, this show is meant for children. To think that Disney will not be launching products with their traditional target audience in mind, first and foremost, would be absurd. And anyone who fails to see this does need to get over their denial, indeed.

I was just trying to say that Rebels does look a little too childish for my taste. Doesn’t mean that’s a bad thing, though. Because even though I seriously doubt I’ll be watching, if it gets a new generation into SW, then the more the merrier, IMO.
What difference does that make? Did you watch the first seven minutes they previewed? Stormtroopers getting shot in the face, a bike trooper getting blown up, I don’t get why this is more “kiddy” than the original film? Because that’s obviously the implication of your post.

Have Vader slicing up some ewoks or something so he can reminisce about when he “took care” of the kids in the Jedi temple.
According to the merchandise, Darth Vader and Boba Fett have indirectly been confirmed to make appearances on the show as supporting characters. Fett had what appears to be an official character model leak.
I read that too but, if ratings were bad, they could always increase focus on Vader/Fett.

At last!!!! A person willing to give things a try before they judge!
Ratings won’t change much by dropping iconic characters into any cartoon show. Cartoons and comic books, and even novels these days, divide audiences like never before. No matter how good the stories or technicalities may be, a larger populace will refuse outright to experience them because of the medium they are presented in, or the age group they have become chiefly stereotyped in association with. The Marvel Superheroes movies as examples are far inferior story-wise to the comic books, but the general movie audience will refuse to pick up a comic. Same goes for Star Wars in terms of all media outside of live-action.
Can we all just agree that what Star Wars’s target demographic is in dispute? Because honestly there’s enough for both arguments to claim otherwise.
It doesn’t matter what George Lucas says because he’s a man of passion and sometimes he frankly says stupid things. I shouldn’t have to point out his own contradictory statements or the movies themselves often conflicting with the idea of being kid friendly.
I think it best to say it is for general audiences. A lot of fans expect Star Wars to adapt this new trend in movies that have a serious edge. Like Nolan’s Batman or Daniel Craig’s Bond.

Exactly. Star Wars is for children of all ages; it needn’t become grim and gritty for the sake of the older fans who want it to grow up with them and become Breaking Bad or Deadwood. It has a timeless appeal and should be accessible to everybody. It’s Flash Gordon (in the grand Alex Raymond style) with state of the art special effects 🙂 As such, Rebels is a fine exemplar.

These two commercials look perfectly fine. But they’re also Sabine-free.
It’s just so unfortunate that they have such a stupid character in Sabine to drag the rest of it down.
What would be great is if Sabine became the tragic hero and died in the first few episodes.

Well, since I became a fan of SW at the perfect age for it (7, 10, 13 when the OT first came out), I know why I became a fan, and it wasn’t because of its mature content, I assure you.
That’s not disagreeing with filmmakers or anyone else, for that matter. That’s just the truth: SW is for kids. Doesn’t mean it is “just for kids”, though. That’s a matter of semantics, open-mindedness and each person’s individual understanding of what “made for children” means.
The Sabine hate is a bit over the top. I mean, look, I get it, she has pink armor and is into graffiti…obviously pandering to a specific audience but that’s to be expected.
The hate over her being an explosives expert? Meh, easily justified. She’s a Mandalorian. It’s a Spartan style culture. She’s probably been training in weapons and explosives for 10 years, so that’s really not much of a stretch for her to be very good at it (and what do you want them to describe her proficiency as? A yeoman explosives technician specializing in thermal detonators with a focus on distraction based techniques?…yeah, that’ll really draw in the viewing audience of Disney XD).
As for the other stuff…the sling shot is weird, don’t really get that but I’m sure it’ll be explained. My biggest gripe is that weird scene where Kanaan literally assembles his lightsaber before battle by screwing the top in like he just changed the batteries in a flashlight.
Just weird to me that most of the hate has been on Sabine when, until the Art Attack short, we basically saw nothing of her in any of the previews.

Seriously, though – the only comments that I have censored are those that violate site conduct, which thus far involve either excessive flaming or including sexual content. We encourage an open discussion here so long as it doesn’t violate either of these things.
If I were to censor every single post I disagree with, then several of these comments would be taken off the map. Thing is, I’m better than that, and I would much rather have people be honest about what they think of whatever comes up in discussion than to have a vapid comment section full of shiny happy people acting as yes-men and yes-women to whatever point I agree with.
