Marvel Announces Star Wars Legends Epic Collection.

Epic Collection

Marvel Entertainment announced today the release of an oversized dose of a galaxy far, far, away — Star Wars comics are coming to Marvel’s prestigious Epic Collection format — Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire Vol. 1 TPB.

From StarWars.com

Let the dark times begin! Marvel welcomes Star Wars to the Epic Collection program, with this first volume of a series focusing on the years that follow Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith! After the end of the Clone Wars, the Republic has fallen and Palpatine exerts his ruthless grip on his new Galactic Empire. Now, the few Jedi that remain must decide whether to hold true to their faith, or abandon it completely in the face of a brutal purge — one carried out by the new Dark Lord of the Sith. Rise, Darth Vader!

“We’re thrilled to be bringing our innovative Epic Collections to a galaxy far, far away,” says Marvel SVP sales & marketing David Gabriel. “We’ll be bouncing around to different periods of Star Wars history with each Epic Collection, constructing one huge tapestry, collecting full unbroken runs of all the greatest Star Wars comics from the past 35 years.”

Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire Vol. 1 TPBwill offer a new way for fans to collect and read iconic Star Wars stories across the past 35 years of published titles. These oversized, self-contained color collections will bring the adventures of the Rebellion, the Galactic Empire and more to the masses with exciting new Epic Collections. Wait so these are old and not canon?

Yup. But the fact that they’re reprinting these issues could be a good sign that they want to re-use content created for these stories in the new Star Wars canon. For instance, the recently-released iOS game (Commander) is already recanonizing vehicles made for Dark Forces, Empire At War, and The Force Unleashed II.

Well it’s nice that they are keeping it around instead of trying to remove it from existence. And yeah even if they don’t reuse the exact same characters there were some awesome vehicles in the EU that I really hope they decide to use.

I’m totally confused as to what this is? I’m pretty sure they can’t use Dark Horse though so maybe they’re just reprinting their original Marvel issues, which I suppose are non-canon???

Nope, this is all Dark Horse stuff. Marvel has the license now.

They did announce that they’re reprinting all of their old comics in two huge volumes.

Wow, Dark Horse really got screwed if Marvel can profit off their stuff.

And while they were robbing them they should have stolen some cover art.

To be fair, Dark Horse already reprinted the old MArvel STAR WARS comics, so it’s just a flip of that situation.
The official blurb does not make it apparent, but yes, these are reprints of the Dark Horse comics.
I’ll be (re) purchasing the hardcovers of the classic Marvel STAR WARS run, but will probably give the Dark Horse stuff a miss as it’s mostly garbage.

Rofl… Marvel Star Wars was a garbage, not Dark Horse.

You can either profit by this or be destroyed. It’s your choice but I warn you not to underestimate my powers.

Dark Horse has previously republished Marvel’s STAR WARS and Indiana Jones titles, DC’s STAR TREK and other titles. This is no different now that Marvel is doing the same.

Both publishers ( original and reprint ) must have a deal in place to share the profits no doubt.

Too bad they couldn’t show us an era of Star Wars we haven’t seen before. Disney is really making Star Wars seem small by concentrating on the Rebels/ OT eras.

Seriously, the best name they could come up with was “The Empire”??? makes me worry that maybe “Darth Vader” isn’t just a working title …

    • August 28, 2014 at 12:03 am
      Permalink

It isn’t a working title, but honestly, most comic series are better off just having generic character-name-titles or organization-titles.

Honestly, how many people would pay to read a book called “Darth Vader gets his stuff together after getting ambushed out of nowhere and floating around in space for a few days”?

Nope – the article is specifically related to Episode VII. I think this news about the comic broke around the time I teased the article I wrote.

Viral Hide thinks the news in it is accurate, but he’s just checking before I have the greenlight to post it. Best-case-scenario, it comes out tomorrow. If not, it’ll have to wait for a day or two after that.

BUT why bother buying any of this? IT DOESNT COUNT! Its all been erased from star wars continuity,I dont understand the point but for Disney and Marvel milking the star wars cash cow! How do u tell the fans all these old EU stories dont count and then turn around and try to re sell it to them,
