Twitter Buzz: Star Wars Writers and Directors Headed to London for a Meeting? Plus the Stormtrooper Sketch.

Star Wars

Bad Robot’s tweet with the robotic hand surely stole the show today. Still hit the jump to find out about one other interesting tweet from today about an upcoming meeting in London between all Star Wars sequel and spin-off writers and directors. Oh, and more on the Stormtrooper sketch…

So first here’s what Quint from Ain’t it Cool News posted:

There’s definitely something going on there. Star Wars: Episode VII Writer and Director Rian Johnson has been tweeting pictures from London all day. Also first spin-off writer Gary Whitta has just arrived in London. Director Gareth Edwards should be around too. He’s been born and raised in England.

Probably we won’t hear anything about that meeting but who knows. Anything is possible. This also means that the hiatus is supposed to end this week and probably they could resume filming next week.

Another interesting story from today was a sketch of the Episode VII Stormtrooper made by Tom Hodges who supposedly has seen the costume. Here it is:

Stormtrooper Sketch

Now before you say anything I can assure you that the Episode VII Stormtroopers will not look that way. We’ve got a firm confirmation that the sketch is not accurate at all. I’m not saying that Tom is lying but obviously there has been some confusion, miscommunication or something else. Maybe it was not for Episode VII at all.

P.S. The article “Darth Vader: The Power of a Symbol” will be posted tomorrow not today as I said earlier. Sorry but there were more important things to point your attention to today.

I’m hoping that’s fake because it looks like a ninja turtle mouth. Not impressed.

I like the jet engines on the chin. Let’s them fly in whatever direction they’re looking.

For everyone that’s been complaining about how it’s been a slow news week and we haven’t been able to bring up new Episode VII articles in spite of the hiatus, well, here you go. Four articles in a day, half of them tied to the Sequel Trilogy.

I think everyone understands that. If not… f-them. If I vent frustration it’s more geared towards bad robot… would be cool to get some more official pics from them instead of teases that get people to argue haha.

Thank god that’s not the actual design, though it does look like it could be a concept or a rough draft for the storm trooper helmets?

I bet you that this drawing is probably for the first spin-off movie not Episode 7. If they making a Bobba Fett movie, and he is alive surviving the sarlac pit, then its possile Boba would eventually encounter some stormtroopers with this being sometime after Return of the Jedi. Maybe Boba goes to the good side and fights them, who knows.

Possibility regarding the Helmet. What if it were a special forces helmet for like EVA work. Besides it’s not a well done sketch you can see how some of the proportions trying to convey the curvature are wrong.

Makes it look none mechanical. In other words it could look cooler than that and may not be the standard helmet. Meaning Viral and Tom could both be right.

    That’s just my speculation/two cents.

A 2 week hiatus during the middle of shooting and nobody questions the ‘official’ version that it’s all about Ford’s broken leg? This, despite the fact that it now seems like the SW7 + writing brains are all gathered together in London for a powwow!

I get the feeling that the Lucasfilm Story Group (or as I like to call them, the Super Friends) are planning to get the massive armada of spin-offs and sequels underway. The production stage of Episode VII is nearly finished, so it’s probably that everything else is either going to start pre-production or get into production.

That’s about what I would expect from Doug Chiang.

Don’t ever say anything about Doug Chaing in such an ambiguously dry and sarcastic way that you have. You are way off on your statement.
Doug is a great person and a positive influence on the conceptual art community.
His art is fantastic, you are the equivalent of a stick figure drawn on the sidewalk.

I will say what I will say and I will say again and again. Think what you will but Chiang’s designs are boring and unworthy of Star Wars. He is a masterful technical artist and is great at filling in details, but the overall designs he ‘imagines’ are boring and unimaginative as evidenced by the PT and yes, Robota. Unfortunately, there are many like you who are influenced by him and it’s too bad JJ Abrams didn’t stick with his own Bad Robot team as there is a couple of designers there Chiang couldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. I have nothing against the man himself, though, I’m sure he is a great guy to chat with.

I have seen the stormtroopers and I can tell you guys this is a bad drawing from memory of the real thing, yet somehow it’s kinda close. The new stormtroopers are more futuristic, like something out of Tron. And they’re beautiful. Clean lines. He’s got the eyes right but not much else. You have no reason to believe an anonymous post, but there it is.

Could that maybe be a variation on the regular Stormtrooper? Maybe an Aqua Trooper? It’s has very sleek smooth surfaces, just speculating. It might be interesting to see some underwater action.

Has the stormtrooper image been taken down? It says content unavailable on my phone. The link to instagram says page not found.

For an image to be removed so quickly and the page to be “not found” on the web…. You can sure bet it’s legit folks!

Not necessarily. The sketch did more bad than good. No one really liked it and I think it was making the movie look bad. Probably that’s why it was removed. I still stand behind my words that the new ST helmet won’t look like that.

I contacted the guy on Instagram asked him how he was able to get access cause let’s face it, he’s not that famous, he’s not working for Lucasfilm or marvel just does freelance stuff. He got all offended when I said that most people never heard of him before the sketch. I mentioned that this site discounted his sketch and some posters have claimed to have seen it and that his sketch was not accurate. He then threw a fit told me he didn’t care what I thought or what some sites say because he was 110% positive that his sketch was legit. Even though he claimed he didn’t care what people thought he then blocked me lol, then I think he might have taken it down. He claimed he seen other stuff but declined to say what he saw asked if he knew plot etc he said no cause he didn’t want to know. He said it was OK to draw sketch but not post pictures. Lol. I’m sure Lucasfilm if his sketch is legit don’t care if it’s a photo or a sketch they will get their lawyers after you. Think about it if you claim you’ve done work for Lucasfilm in the past why risk your career by posting what the stormtroopers will look like if his sketch is legit, would Lucasfilm hire him in future if they know he’s leaking this stuff. That make sense to you? He also said he drew that in 5 minutes so it wasn’t that good of a sketch so he would post a better sketch. Has he posted a better sketch?
