Rumor: Luke Skywalker’s Whereabouts in Star Wars: Episode 7.

dagobah

The guys from ThisIsInfamous shared another Episode VII rumor, this time about the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker in the upcoming movie…

It looks like there a pretty big dosage of speculation added to the rumor but nevertheless check it out:

Excerpt from ThisIsInfamous:

From what I’ve been told, Luke hasn’t been missing for a full 30 years, only about 10, with his early time post-RETURN OF THE JEDI being spent rebuilding the Jedi Order. Yeah, Luke had some things to do, in order to help get things back on track after the fall of the Empire. In addition, he has grown so powerful with his command of the Force that he can literally move mountains or bring down ships with merely a glance.

But then Luke begins to feel a disturbance in the Force… and starts to feel the lure of the Dark Side. If word about the Emperor’s resurgence is true, I believe his presence and desire to court young Skywalker once again is the root of this new evil. Because he knows just what a danger he would be if successfully convinced to switch sides, Luke goes into a self-imposed exile and disappears.

But where does he go? That’s right. DAGOBAH!!

Luke Skywalker relocates to Yoda’s old home planet, and that is where he will be found and reunited with his old lightsaber by friends both old and new.

So.. Exactly how are we going to show a mountain move with ‘practical effects’?

On another note, this sounds like it was written by ‘FanBoy’. Palpy’s back (zzzz..) Luke is SuperJedi yet fells tempted to join dark side b/c he has too much power. K.K. Rusch tried this angle in her EU book ‘The New Rebellion”; it sucked then, and it sucks now.
      IMHO, of course..

Well if you think about it Palpatine is kind of Luke’s grandfather.

Shmi gave birth to Anakin who was “inseminated” by the dark force of Palpatine. (At least that’s what I got from Enmity telling Qui-Gon and then from Palpatine telling the story of Darth Plagueis to Anakin at the opera in ROTS).

Could Luke be feeling the dark-side of Palpatine reaching out to him because of their connection?

Another long-shot … could Darth Plagueis still be alive. Is he the ancient evil that has been waiting for the time to rise again?

This is the FIRST rumor I actualli like. And makes more sense than other stories. Regarding the Emperor. I´d like to see him again, in some spin off movie of Empire days. Not here. 🙂

I don’t really think it would minimize Vader’s sacrifice. It was more the thought that counted than anything. He had to do an act of good to be redeemed. The outcome of the act isn’t really what’s important. That being said, I don’t think I want to see the Emperor back in this film. I think there’s a greater evil power at work anyway.

I don’t want interesting just for the sake of being interesting. I want things to make sense. Would you expect Yoda or Ben to still be tempted in their old age? Luke’s silly powerful, but he’s still concerned about temptation?

Why not. It’s the only place in the OT they haven’t reused yet.

Well, Ben and Yoda were already in isolation and far from temptation as old men. Luke has friends, a sister, possibly a niece, potentially students he has trained – attachments Ben and Yoda didn’t have.

Part of being a matured Jed is greater resistance to the temptation of the dark side. That’s why Yoda and Ben wanted Luke to complete his training before facing Vader. So why then would a proven Jedi Master be so concerned about this?

What’s this about Luke passing the “ultimate test?” He got his butt kicked (or roasted) by the Emperor and the only reason he was able to take down Vader was because he got MAD and was using the Dark Side of the Force. If Vader didn’t rise and kill Sidious (and fulfill the old jedi prophecy) Luke would have been dead meat.

True, I like the idea of Luke being super powerful. That would make him a very good target for the Sith who will use him to power up some kind of magical device on Morriband. But hiding in Dagobah? It’s like Lucasfilm wants to do everything in their power to make 40+ year old fanboys happy. X wings, McQuarrie this- McQuarrie that, return of Chewbacca, Han, Leia, etc. I’m still waiting for when Disney will throw us PT fans a bone for once.

While I’m not completely sold on the source, I have to say that this makes perfect sense, both from a continuity standpoint (who but Luke and Artoo know about Luke’s connection to Dagobah?) and also in terms of where Luke’s instincts would tell him to go if he needed to hide from a Force-sensitive enemy – or even if he just needed to back away from the rest of the galaxy for awhile and ponder the nature of the Force undisturbed.

What I don’t buy is the notion that Luke is running from a reborn Emperor. I think it’s far more likely that whatever the dark side threat may be in the new films, it’s something far older, more mysterious and more powerful than the Emperor ever was. After all, why retread old ground when you can one-up what came before?

But Luke hunkered down on Dagobah? It may be another bunk rumor, but if it’s not then it would seem to dovetail perfectly with what we know of Luke from the OT.

Oh stop your whining. It’s a safe bet that Disney will continue the tradition of giving us at least one new planet per movie.

I like that he’s gone into exile on Dagobah. But I don’t like the reason. It’s so predictable. I mean seriously?

“But then Luke begins to feel a disturbance in the Force… and starts to feel the lure of the Dark Side.”

Oh, how very original.. Why not something interesting and new? Maybe he came across something and had to go into hiding? Maybe this starts a mystery once they find Luke. Why do we have to be bogged down yet again with being lured to the dark side? I don’t buy it. I don’t believe that with all those story meetings KK talked about, they would just hack off some buy-the-book reason for Luke Skywalker, and come up with something so hap-hazardly predictable and stupid. I would have thought they would have wanted to protect this character a bit more than that. I mean we’ve already seen Luke be tempted with the dark side in ep 6 anyway. We get it. He’s not going to turn. He’s the hero. Done. His arc is resolved. Why repeat it all over again in ep 7?! Move on for christ sake. GAH. All these rumours are just terrifying.

yes, I’ve thought it might be Dagobah..but I think a dark side turn for Luke would be belated at this point..I would see him more as the Gandalf/ Obi Wan figure of this trilogy..still needs to be important, he was the main man..

I agree. IMHO, if he’s not just an old Master who decided to retire to some out of the way place to ponder the great mysteries, then I would imagine that he would go to Dagobah in order to meditate and prepare himself for whatever the new “disturbance in the Force” may portend. (And I still think it’s something a lot older and nastier than the Emperor.)

Something about this rings true. It’s something I have been thinking about a lot, and that is, if Luke is such a bad ass, how can any antagonist possibly defeat him? So perhaps we find that what Luke is hiding from is a new Empire that has made itself a cult to him in it’s own twisted way? Something like that anyway.

  • September 12, 2014 at 1:05 am

Or perhaps, because there is no balance to the force because of no dark force users being around, that Luke is perpetually in a struggle with the force that wants to find balance through him? In other words, he feels a compulsion to use the dark side?Maybe?

Balance ofthe force doesnt mean there being equal dark and light users…

Its pretty heavily implied that the Dark Side only exists when the force is thrown out of balance.

Personally I define the balance as being the jedi able to balance these two sides within themselves without fear of losing their way…

Two times in the comments people state they would like to see an age old threat. The Clone Wars had the Mortis arc with the father and his daughter and son. Which tied into a character and story that was going on in the old EU(Legends) Her name was Abeloth. If this is true I think Abeloth would make a great enemy for an over powered Luke Skywalker. If he is so powerful it makes sense that the threat would be someone as powerful as Abeloth was in Legends. Please no replies about Abeloth not being canon. We all know that. I’m not saying copy and paste the Abeloth and the stories she’s in from Legends. I just think it would be cool to have a character like that in the movies.

Not sure i 100% buy it, but This is definitely the BEST SW7 Rumor I’ve heard! There are only 3 things I require from this movie:
a.) Luke is an epic jedi Grandmaster
b.) the Jedi are (at least a LITTLE) rebuilt
c.) At least one force ghost cameo

I don’t like the idea of the reborn emperor or Han flying something thats not the falcon. just make it GOOD Mr. Abrams. That’s all we ask!

The Abeloth idea actually makes sense if the working title is “The Ancient Fear”.

If he is feeling the disturbence in the Force by Abeloth or a similar character that would explain his exile.

Meanwhile the Empire/Imperial Remnant is being manipulated by the Evil being into capturing Luke.

Maybe he starts feeling jealously, love, loss and everything a Jedi isn’t supposed to feel because it leads to the dark side. Having the attachments to Han, Leia and others in his life. Thinking he will eventually fall to the Dark Side like his father before him, he leaves into exile.

    I dunno, just spitballing.

Assuming this rumor is at least partially true, when they say that Luke can literally move mountains, I’m hoping they use “literally” to mean its exact opposite, figuratively (just like people do in sentences like “I am so hungry I am literally starving,” or “If I hear one more bullshit rumor like that my head is literally going to explode”).

OTOH, if the Force is now indeed balanced, and, given that the balance shifting towards the dark side in the prequels diminished the Jedi’s ability to use the Force, we should see more powerful Jedi and more impressive Force feats than we’ve seen in any of the live-action films before. (Assuming the moviemakers care about stuff like consistency.)

  • September 12, 2014 at 5:43 am

I think an evil Luke could work. He was fucked up from the very beginning because of his age. Even Yoda said he was too fuckin old to train. Plus, now we know how the whole younglings bs works.
In ANH, Luke wasn’t patient about getting off the farm, in ESB, he was ignorant and ran off and got his hand chopped off (which may still be a problem if the rumors of the floating hand in space shit is true). In ROTJ, he almost fucked up and slipped over to the Dark Side the way he was hacking away at his dad like a lunatic. He just happen to look over and make the mechanical hand connection. Otherwise, the mf would’ve been hanging out with the Emperor. Also in ROTJ, Luke was rockin the black outfit, just like daddy and all the other Sith.
So, at an old age, it’s believeable that Luke might be losing it a little and be tempted to join the much cooler Dark Side. He could even try to recruit the nephews/nieces.

This all seems way too much of a retread of paths we have been down before. Plus, I also don’t believe for a second that Luke is going into a self-imposed exile. This seems kind of ridiculous. He is the most powerful, living jedi in the Star Wars universe.

He already learned about fear. No way he is fearful.

If Luke is missing I believe it is because he is seeking answers to a disturbance in the force and/or trying to help someone.

This has fanboy written all over it. I am surprised so many of you don’t see through this?? Really?

I really hope this rumor is false. I’m getting really tired of these tie-ins to the Original Trilogy. This is 2014, not 1980. If people are so inlove with the original films, just watch the original films. These new movies should tell a completely new story, with a completely new perspective, replete with its own unique twists and turns. From what I’ve hearing so far, they should call THIS the Star Wars Special Edition, because it seems to be an enhancement of IV, V, and VI, rather than its own origianl work. (Sorta like what Disney did with that awful new Tron movie.)

Luke’s Jedi order is different for a start!

It is now just a cultural thing among it’s ranks, & Luke is Grandmaster. They are primarily about living in peace, & do not directly control their own members, but members can be expelled and also blacklisted around the galaxy, sometimes hunted down, if they go totally rogue – only happend once since ROTJ. This is limited to their own. The Jedi are alot more lawless than before but also alot more live and let live. Essentially, they are a Qui-gon type Jedi Order. But they are not really explored until the second episode anyhow (Ep. 8)

There are other force user groups that the Jedi work with when appropriate, examples being the anarchistic Rangers guild, many who they have a shared history with, and the most powerful force user known in the galaxy, Leia Organa Solo & her galactic wide post republic guild.

Luke had been only missing for a little bit under a year, he had gone to investigate a planetary Wampa berserko phenomenon and had been lead onto a deeper mystery that relates directly to the start of the trilogy ‘big’ story.

Luke just has found out stuff that will be really helpful to Leia, Han and the new heroes, & in their own stories they both discover this and meet up in both trying to locate Luke before it’s too late.

We know George was influenced by Dune [“Spice”, a desert planet, Sandpeople, and there is plenty of Bene Gesserit in the Nightsisters], so maybe he got some more inspiration from the series for the Sequels.

Here is a bit from Wikipedia on Children of Dune. I’m not saying it is exactly this plot, but the rumors of self imposed exile and other bits we have heard did make me think of it. Maybe those who know the books better can dig up more.

“At the end of Dune Messiah, Paul Atreides walks into the desert, a blind man, leaving his twin children Leto and Ghanima in the care of the Fremen, while his sister Alia rules the universe as regent. Awoken in the womb by the spice, the children are the heirs to Paul’s prescient vision of the fate of the universe, a role that Alia desperately craves. House Corrino schemes to return to the throne, while the Bene Gesserit make common cause with the Tleilaxu and Spacing Guild to gain control of the spice and the children of Paul Atreides.”

And there is more in the plot that makes me think of the rumors and possible plot ideas, such as one of the dead villains from the first book taking possession of another character.

I’m going to chalk this report up as “utter rubbish”. You can’t spend 20 years establishing something as HUGE as the New Jedi Order, then just up sticks and bugger off, disappearing into the night fo the next 10 years. That’s just stupid. Can you imagine the state of the Jedi when he got back? Imagine if Palpatine had established the first Galactic Empire in Episode 3, issued Order 66, then went to Yavin IV and drank daquiris on top of the Massassi Temple for the next 10 years, hoping that Vader and Tarkin between them would run it in his stead with the same vision and direction as he was? Don’t be silly.

1: Who says the Order will be “huge” in any sense of the word. There may not have been that many Force sensitive people found. And/or they don’t have the type of impact on Galactic affairs that the original order did.

2: Perhaps he had a vision that establishing the Order again would lead to more trouble, or that him sticking around would create trouble. We have no idea why he supposedly leaves and there are many reasons that could justify it happening. Maybe he saw himself turning to the Dark Side if he sought too much power in leading the Jedi.

Nah, there won’t be NEW Jedi Order nor NEW Republic. It will be Jedi Order and Republic -> originality according to Disney 😀
But I agree, so far every plot is incredibly stupid and cheap. But I don’t await much from Disney, they know only reboots.

To all the rumors and potential spoilers:

Will Luke turn bad or won’t he was ALREADY covered in episodes 5 and 6, the whole plot was how he didn’t turn to the dark side.

(okay, he DID chose to wear black in ROTJ, but it was hot so let’s overlook that.)

Having him turn bad would degrade the OT.

And, even though I did want to see Luke in a romantic relationship, I wanted to see YOUNG Luke with a girl.

It would just be so wrong, and I think “I am your father” WAS dramatic, but It’d be so overdone to do it now.
