Kathleen Kennedy: We Are 3 Weeks From Finishing Star Wars: Episode 7!

Kathleen Kennedy

A new ILM studio was officially opened on Wednesday in London. The ceremony was attended by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy who revealed that we’re only 3 weeks away from the end of the Episode VII filming…

From THR:

According to ILM London’s director of operations Sue Lyster, the facility is already working on the effects for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Star Wars: Episode VII.

Speaking at the event, Kennedy recalled meeting U.K. government representatives in February last year to discuss filming the latest Star Wars in London, revealing that Disney was now just “three weeks off” finishing the film and hinting that further titles in the franchise would be shot in the city.

“This continues a long tradition of Star Wars movies being made in London. It goes back to 1976, and to know that we are now coming back and we will be making the movies once again based out of Pinewood, and now we’re looking to put together this studio, it’s rather remarkable that this has all come together in less than two years,” she said.

As you might recall there were rumors suggesting that the movie is expected to wrap filming in late September. Because of the scheduled few weeks hiatus (due to Harrison Ford’s injury), a delay by one month is understandable, and it appears that everything is moving according to plan.

I think the most we’ll get out of them is a 20 second teaser with the title and theme music, but that’s quite enough for me! I can’t wait to hear what the name of this next installment will be.

Someone mentioned John Williams being close to orchestrating. Assuming they meant close to writing. It would be strange to have finished writing an entire score before filming even wrapped. Especially considering the flexible schedule.

Owe, and if any of you are seeing the first screening of Interstellar in 70mm (film) 11/4, you may have a surprise waiting for you in the previews.

Just as he did with Episode I, I’m sure JW will have something special lined up. I hope they include the mormon tabernacle choir again for a sweet Duel of Fates type moment again. I know that if I was JW then I would have been humming a few things over the past few years, teasing myself with the idea of a sequel score. I cannot wait to hear the thunderous march of the imperials theme variation that will without a doubt have presence.

Kathleen Kennedy. Kiri Hart. Sue Lyster. I’m so pleasantly surprised to see women in influential roles in this franchise. 🙂

Wow. I just went to Lucasfilm’s website. Nine out of 18 employees listed in the “Our Team” section are women! Did I just step into the future…. or the distant past? ^_^

Just commented on something I noticed. I know a lot of people like to play this off like it’s not a big deal, but you don’t often see so many females in prominent roles in a company like Lucasfilm. The film industry is extremely male dominated, so I find this to be a breath of fresh air. I say that as a male.

Between this and all the female roles cast for Episode VII, I’m very excited for women’s future, both in this business and in our global culture.

Yeah, this is really a step in the right direction for women all around the world, ain’t it?

… You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m sure that oppressed women in middle eastern countries and other third world cultures would have a little something to say. That is, if they even knew what it was you were referring to. They need support so much more than a film producer in the US making six figures like Miss Kennedy.

            Wow. No kidding.

I never said this would solve serious women’s problems, but the world definitely needs more examples of strong female characters in our collective storytelling. Princess Leia was such a revolutionary and inspirational character in pop culture. I hope Daisy and the others take it to the next level.

Yet all of the films (and spin offs) are male directed. At least for the foreseeable future.

And how exactly would you know this, having never even seen a trailer for EpVII, let alone any of the other future films?

Well…because they have actually announced a male director for Episode 8, and we already know JJ is directing episode 7….which isn’t exactly news.

So, the announcement of two directors is what’s driving you to the conclusion that Star Wars will be a male chauvinistic franchise, “At least for the foreseeable future?”
Do people even realize how absolutely ridiculous it is to spend time worrying about this bullshit? There are so many more issues in the world who’s causes are in need of support. The arrogance of the modern US feminist movement baffles me.

No, that is not at all what I am saying. Someone stated that SW was still being directed by males for the foreseeable future…and you asked how they could possibly know that. I replied that we know that because the DIRECTORS announced for the foreseeable future (aka announced so far) are both MALE. You made up everything else that you seem to think I am saying I was simply answering your question that we know they will be directed by males, because they have actually TOLD us they are being directed by males. Now….settle down and stop putting words in my mouth…jeez louise!

Don’t worry….theyre working on gettig the problem of being over-staffed with women, corrected ASAP.

If your really interested in Star Wars then as some have already mentioned, who the company is directed by is of little importance (i.e male/female). What is important is that they do a good job!

If the women do a good job… good on them. If they do a bad job well… shame on them.

And this last statement applies in the same way to men, should they be in charge, of anything Star Wars related.

Obviously the top priority should be in providing the best Star Wars content possible, but shouldn’t have to be one or the other. You can have both. Women should have a greater role in Star Wars, on and off the screen. It’s their story, too.

Aside from having to wait almost 9 months between SWCelebration and the film, which has never happened in the past (The event was always within a month of the film’s release, hence the “Celebration”.)

Sorry, I’m just a little bitter about that. Granted, they (Disney) were originally planning for a May release. Now, it’s just a massive gap of time.

They’re not gonna give us a trailer until the music-man has given them a sweet soundtrack.
A star wars teaser with no music? come on! Patience

seriously we’re talking about another year of waiting, we should seriously find something else to do with our lives before the entire plot synopsis leaks out six months early (SPOILER turns out Darth Vader in the final duel was a clone of anakin and the real darth vader was someone else. Chewbacca is Luke’s Father after all)

They often edit these things together with a ‘temp track’ as a placeholder for the real music. There’s plenty of exisiting music they could use in any teaser trailer.

Awesome to think principle filming has almost wrapped, never thought I would see another brand new Star Wars after Episode III finished. Honestly thought that door had closed until the Disney sale. Thank you GL for doing the right thing. Shame it wasn’t when the original cast were 10 years younger.

You can defend Jar Jar as a concept but there’s no way to defend him as what he was on screen. He was literally aimed at the lowest common denominator and even then was succesful. Lucas, in on of the PT behind the scenes bits describes Jar Jar as the funniest character they’ve had in Star Wars.

That can be true, if you have zero sense f humor.
