UPDATE 2! Aaaaand That’s a Wrap! Photos and Video from the Star Wars: Episode 7 Wrap Party. Plus a Closer Look at R2-D2.
As we posted yesterday, Episode VII concept designer Will Htay revealed that an Episode VII wrap party was happening yesterday. Now hit the jump to find out some really cool photos and a video from the event…
From dailymail:
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and JJ Abrams joined several of the rising stars about to have their big break in the film at a wrap party in London on Saturday night.
One by one, an army of cars containing the lucky cast members pulled up to the Science Museum, where the exclusive bash was taking place.
And the stars were treated to quite the elaborate party, with aerial silk acrobatics in the atrium.
Andy Serkis gave a cheerful wave as he made his way inside, but he has been keeping coy about his role in the movie.
The cast were dressed to impress for the party, and like Andy John Boyega and Pip Andersen arrived in suave suits.
For more photos check out dailymail’s link above.
Also here are even more photots posted on Getty Images featuring Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Simon Pegg (anyone still has doubts he has a cameo in the movie?) and more. (via MagnarTheGreat)
The rest of the photos you can see HERE.
And finally a photo and a video from the event posted on Instagram by John Boyega:

Man that’s it! Now tell me what will they do for another freaking 410 days??! Looks like… There’ll still be a lotta CGI…
The next 410 days will be spent building a 1.1 scale model star destroyer and then launching it into orbit. They will then film it from a distance and then send out memos to cast members, reminding them to praise practical effects everytime they are interviewed live.
What you’re describing is documentary filming, practical effects are still effects, not the real thing.
BTW, the only reason everyone’s praising the practical effects is to appease the OT fans.
There will still be a ton of CGI.
Had the sequels been better liked, they would be talking about they’re cutting-edge CGI, but if they said that the whole internet would explode in another wave of Jar Jar hate. This is also why George is absent from set, because of public over-reaction.
the truth i think is that JJ and co. are bringing their A-GAME both CG and Practical.
This bickering is pointless
I do think there will be a lot of high-quality CGI in VII, but I still think the overwhelming or primary focus will be on practical effects. Why over-emphasize the practical only to shoot yourself in the foot when the film is released?
Professional filmmakers, which these folk certainly are, won’t focus on practical fx. They won’t focus on CGI.
Professional filmmakers focus on STORY.
They then choose the tool that best helps them tell that story.
“practical effects are still effects, not the real thing.

You are totally right but a certain vocal group of people have convinced themselves that one of the “problems” with the prequels was “it was all CGI” and other things like “there was no humour” “the dialogue was terrible” “there was no emotion” etc etc.
All nonsense of course when looking at it objectively. What they really mean is that they didn’t like it. Not realizing that people who didn’t like the OT said similar things about dialogue, acting, too many effects, not being “real” or whatever.
Doesn’t make a bit of difference in the success of the movies with the audience which is what actually counts.
Shut up Ryan and get off the keyboard.
Ok, is it just me? Or do they seem to have aged an awful lot in the last few months?
They’re tired, plus, they’ve been in heavy make-up for the entirety of the shoot, so seeing as this is a celebration party, i makes sense that they would go a little light of the makeup, i know i would.
Plus, these are recent photos, as opposed to Daisy’s resume photo that could be four years old for all we know.
(they had papparazzi at the “our hard work is done” party? that’s gotta suck)
Carrie still looks fat
The coat she is wearing is like a tent and she’s only 5ft 1 anyway. She’s aloud to look slightly pudgy.
Don’t be acting as though she looks like –

And you still sound like an asshole. Good luck with that.
Yes, her and Mark should have got kick-ass fit for this, like Harrison got for Crystal Skull, rather than just half-fit/better.
(makes farting noise).
(makes longer farting noise).
If it’s any consolation, probably none of them will look fat in the movie, after a little ‘camera magic’, clip, alter ratio, tuck that bit in..
i am working on it, I know I am tied
Post production is a long process, 400+ days seems just about right. Oh and let’s not be ridiculous, of course there will be CGI. JJ and his team specifically said they would use every single tool in the toolbox. Practical or CGI, they should be seen as tools to SERVE the story and the characters first and foremost. This is where George Lucas lost sight and F up. The original LOTR trilogy is a great example of what needs to be done, a perfect blend of practical effects and CGI. I can’t wait to see Episode 7, JJ and his team seem to have taken all the right decisions, in JJ I trust.
totally agreed!!:)
Finally, someone making sense about this topic…
Best comment on the subject of practical and CGI.
Well LOTR did a better job in the practical vs cgi, I admitt. It did screw up in other respects like the screenplay, script, cast, dialog, … though.
That shoot lasted 6 months! Much longer than any other SW movie. I wonder how long the final cut will be.
Now… Let’s find out what the first spinoff is going to be. It’s supposed to start shooting at Pinewood in May 2015.
And here we go again, we already know its Boba Fett movie, it’s been confirmed!
Where has it been confirmed?
This is cliche but this movie will be here before you know it.
I can’t see the video at the bottom as there is a bloody ziering hair transplant ad stuck over it and I can’t get rid of it. great!
OK, now let’s get the first teaser before Christmas so the real hype can begin!
I just had a dream where I watched the premier opening of ep7 and it came out like a horrible Muppet Show episode lol. There were very little starships, no lightsabers, and the big 3 characters had clips pasted from other shows, depicting their younger selves. I woke up and went to this site to get more news. The nightmare was crazy lol.
I’d probably still pay to see that movie. When it ended I’d stand up scratch my head and say well with all its faults still better then “The Star Wars Holiday Special”
Sounds similar to the nightmare I had about episode 1 where the effects looked cartoonish, the production design looked amateur, the script felt like a draft, the pacing was awkward, the lighting and staging were bad, the acting was unbelievable and so were the haircuts, and the aliens spoke embarrassingly offensive broken English instead of an alien dialect with subtitles — except I was unfortunately awake and in a movie theater.
LOLOLOL!! I had that same nightmare! (As did millions of others…)
Not saying this to tussle with anyone, this was literally my experience. I learned a lesson about life that day.
Hopefully you are not Force Sensitive and having premonitions
All we need now is Nick Frost in a cameo too eh? Why not go the whole, erm, hog?
Simon Pegg shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a Star Wars movie
Totally agree
Dear Disney,
How come Avengers 3 already has a title even though it doesn’t come out till 2018? Just curious.
Sincerely,
an angry Star Wars VII fan
;_; Waaaa! Waaa! Waaa! ;_;
Disney already has a title picked for episode 7, they’re are just waiting for the right time and place to announce. Besides, the marvel movies are following comics of similar names.
This generation is worse that the Prequel fan-boys.
They want everything now and will bitch like babies until they get it and then not be happy with it.
BRING BACK THE DRAFT
let these spoilt men-children learn what really matters.
Let’s just wait and see what Episode 7 brings us. As much hard work and dedication they did for the new film, they do deserve a chance. And the spoiled fans you talkn about is the groups that have no lives and got their education from Jershey Shore and the rest of the losers in hollywood like those fake shows The Hills along with zombie apocolypses and Vampires. muhahaha
Sure. Let’s throw our youth into a bunch of pointless wars that’ll scar them for life. Because that’s how they’ll learn proper values.
So, because some Star Wars fans get maybe a bit over-anxious to learn about the new flick, we ought to dump them into a meat grinder on the other side of the world, because “that’ll larn ’em”?
I dig a good non sequitur as much as the next fella, but jeez…
I had a dream about Episode 1,2 and 3 before it came out in movies and in my dream it was slow and boring. It was weird how it played out. Not long ago, i had a dream about episode 7. In this dream, part 7 turned out to be one of the greatest movies ever made. Well, i guess i will see if my new dream turns out to be right again. lol
“You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.”
Every day I have to deal with this shit for no f^cking reason… -_-
(2nd attempt posting this)
Some messages takes me 4 or 5 attempts.
First I have to copy my message because there’s a possibility to loose it.
Weird
(2nd attempt this message)
I was thinking that they are going to have to get something out soon due to all the extras and crew who have been cut loose but have nothing to loose. However as we are a year away from EPVII we are 2 years away from the first stand alone. So there is still plenty of work to be done at Pinewood as sets have to come down and then rebuilt, etc. So the rumor for an Xmas teaser is still valid but I expect the real trailer to hit in May 15.
They have as much to lose as before. Legally and by way of future opportunities.
Harrison’s hair is finished.
Looks Like Artoo has seen some battle at the end of EPVII
Can’t say I agree with the sentiment that 400+ days for post is about right- given that ILM have the ability to mo-cap, light, shade and composite all in real-time now (as evidenced in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbyH3lhd17I ), it seems far too long. I suspect that they’re actually working on the early preparation work for the first spin-off and sequels.
That demo was created by LucasArts, not ILM. it was created to show off their game engine (which was going to be used with 1313). This wasn’t do to with any CGI or anything. Real-time rendering will NEVER be as good as actual rendering. It’d be too hard for computers (even the most powerful ones) to compute that amount of graphical information for graphics which are ILM level of quality.
A year for post is about right to be honest. Not only is their visual effects from ILM but there’s also things such as editing, sound design, localisation, ADR, Marketing and promotion, financial assessments, time for the actors to do the rounds of promotional interviews on TV and radio etc. Then there’s John Williams, who will be watching dailies and roughly edited footage and try to compose to it. Then he’ll need to get an orchestra together to record the score.
All of this has to be done in under a year’s time.
You shouldn’t believe they are starting VFX after editing. There’s no doubt ILM has been working in parallel. I’m sure they have a bunch of people working on it too. An animatic of the movie probally exists as well which allows ILM to jump start any work of anything that is gauranteed to be in the film. I’m sure ILM started over a year ago. I’m in the VFX business and know some people that got hired over a year ago.
Re: Master Raze
That understanding of post production is misguided. Editing, sound design, VFX (where creative choices and changes take the most time) and endless other disciplines I skipped over add to the massive amount of work left to do, all of which goes into making a giant movie like this come to life. It all takes far more time and undergoes far more changes than anyone on this site seems to understand.
Why they can’t have a Meshuggah or Wormed bands on their party, what a shame!…
There’s a major difference.
We already know the plot (somewhat) of Avengers 3. We know it’ll involve Thanos and the inifnity Gauntlet. Knowing it’s called “Infinity War” won’t spoil anything because we already knew.
We know nothing of the story of Episode VII outside of rumours and speculation. Knowing the title early could possibly be a little spoiler-y. No doubt they’ll want to save the title for when they release a trailer.
I”m glad they are not rushing into releasing episode 7. If you want a great movie, it takes time. Remember how long Lucas worked on Epiosde 1 script ? 2 weeks. How long did it take to write the movie for Independence Day ? 2 weeks. And what happened ? Both of them movies were boring, slow pointless plots and not much action. Just too much yak and drama…… My point is, some of you fans that want to get in a rush. Well, do you want an Episode 7 thats quality , fun and great action ? Or do you want a boring script with no good plots but a bunch of yak and drama that we can see on soap operas ?… Excatly. So to all the fans that want to be in a hurry, SHUT DA FUK UP !!!! The real fans want the magic to return back to the saga like the originals did. And personaaly i feel sorry for you prequel fan generation cause u have no fkn idea what a magical movie is. To bad u wasnt around during the originals.
Look I was in that Era of the “prequel fanboys” and I loved them when I was a kid but I obviously see their flaws today. I still recognize the fact that the updated lightsaber battles are pretty awesome that made the prequels manageable in my mind, that being said I also saw the originals before I ever saw the prequels and they will always be my favorites as well bc nothing beats a space cowboy (the ultimate badass character in my mind and always my all time favorite). So I don’t deserve to be labeled for the fact that I was born at the wrong time and that I see merit in both trilogies.
My dear child, you were birthed at a later hour so that the world may know that there are still sane fans from your generation.
Now then, go forth and unite the bickering fanbase. It is your destiny….
Um you obviously never saw Independence Day. Bad dialogue from time to time? Sure; Boring? No fracking way! I can watch ID4 any day and enjoy myself. I only watch EP1 when I feel that ive been a bad person and deserve punishment for my existence…..
Please ID4 sucked big time…. A pine tree gonna still stand after all that fire ?..lmao
Cool
I Was expecting Artoo to be cleaner then that.
Please don’t hate me its just my opinion.
If you ask me, the PT’s real problems began when Natalie Portman was asked to clean that droid…
Yall gotta stop with the cgi vs practical debate. It’s all about balance and what’s good for the shot. It’s more challenging for a person to use a computer to make something asymmetrical and natural looking. Because it’s impossible to make anything symmetrical in reality and your eye picks up on that even if it’s subtle. Asymmetry equals realism. But I’ll bet they used 3D printers to make the molds for the new stromtrooper helmets and other practicals. My opinion is that foreground elements should be practical and background elements can utilize cgi. Cgi looks pretty real nowadays though. Hopefully we all watch Episode 7 Rise of the Ancient Sith without being able to tell what’s cgi what’s practical leaving us all in awe.
You assume too much Master Yoda, 99% of everyone means practical effects when possible and CGI when that is the best route. Balance. Lucas had the actors surrounded by blue objects. He lost his damn mind.
Nobody is saying ONLY Practical effects. Just more than PT.
I don’t know, it’s kind of bizarre being privy to these peoples goings on like this. Theres no mystique anymore. Just kind of creepy.
That being said, don’t you all feel like wet puppies left out in the rain…
They should release EP 7 in November 2015.
Film will be ready by then. And they can sell tons of shit for Christmas.
Oh man, I would get totally wrecked at that party. You know Boyega brought a bong with him. Hell, Harrison brought some joints. Then, R2D2 rolls up to me sail-barge style and says BEEP Boop beep… translation, Have some whiskey!
Where the frig are max von sydow and dohmnall gleeson??? They’ve kept themselves under wraps well for this shoot. Max in particular hasn’t been spotted at all.
yeah where are domnall and max? are they the main characters or did they just piss off Kathy and get thrown into the Disney dungeon??
I hope you asked William Htay for the rights to use his Photo.
Any of you frustrated British filmmakers feel like God / Life Force has stabbed you in the back for not divinely granting your heart’s wish to be a part of Star Wars 7 that was made on our own soil? I do. 🙁
And here comes the whinging poms..
Carrie’s tent was designed by the Ramsey Outdoor Store.
Riddle me this, Jar Jar…
What’s black and blue and grey all over?
The Star Wars afterparty.
I’M JUST GLAD THERE IS ANOTHER BLACK GUY IN THE UNIVERSE
Everyone knows the only time you use CGI in a Star Wars movie is when you are showing the technical read-outs of a battle station… 🙂
