Debbie Reynolds Confirms Billie Lourde’s involvement in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

During her final show in Las Vegas this past weekend, Debbie Reynolds confirmed that her granddaughter, Billie Lourd, has indeed been working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

More after the jump…

After more than 50 years of shows, Debbie Reynolds bid adieu to the Las Vegas Strip over the weekend with a trio of farewell performances at the South Point Casino. During the final concert on Sunday night, according to this article published at vegasseven.com, she was joined onstage by her daughter, Carrie Fisher, and by other members of her family.

Fisher came onstage first, and mother and daughter spent several minutes joking with each other and with the audience about show business and even occasionally about their own much-publicized family dramas. The article then goes on to say:

They were joined by Debbie’s son/Carrie’s brother Todd Fisher and Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd. Debbie mentioned that Carrie and Billie had been working on Star Wars: Episode VII–The Force Awakens with “Harrison Ford… and the other boychik.” It was probably the most tepid applause ever evoked by mention of a Star Wars movie—say that to a room of fanboys with Princess Leia right there and the howling might cause permanent hearing loss.

Okay, sure, this may not be an official press release or anything, but I strongly suspect that if Grandma says that Billie is in Star Wars, then Billie is probably in Star Wars. ;^)

All kidding aside, this would indeed seem to be pretty strong confirmation of previous rumors that Billie Lourd will play a role in The Force Awakens. What role that might be remains a mystery. To say that director J.J. Abrams and the rest of the production have been tight-lipped about the details of the new Star Wars film and the roles that new members of the cast will play is, of course, a massive understatement. The rumor mill has been all over the map on this one – from assumptions that Lourd merely has a cameo role similar to those that George Lucas’ children had in the Prequel Trilogy, to rumblings that Lourd will portray Princess Leia’s daughter or even Princess Leia herself in a flashback scene.

Personally, I suspect that the truth probably falls somewhere in the middle. While the fact that she has little or no professional acting experience makes it very hard for me buy the notion that Billie Lourd will play a lead role in the movie – and Princess Leia’s daughter would almost certainly be a lead role – I also don’t get the impression that she’ll just be standing silently in the background nodding sagely at some bit of expositional dialogue between the main characters either. I’m thinking maybe something like a nightclub singer, a fighter pilot or a diplomatic aide – a role with a bit of screen time and maybe a handful of lines.

There’s really no way of telling at this point exactly what to expect to see from her in TFA. However, Reynolds’ statement does at least lend some fairly undeniable support to previous public statements that have been made about Lourd having at least some role in the new film. Remember back in June of this year when Carrie Fisher’s assistant, Abe Gurko, posted (and later deleted) the following tweet?

“Loving my #StarWarsEpisodeVII girls: @carrieffisher, @ridley_daisy, #BillieLourd, #MaisieRichardsonSellers

Given that we now have another member of Lourd’s family making public statements to this effect… might this also lend additional weight to the rumors that Maisie Richardson Sellers is also part of the TFA cast? It would certainly seem that way, wouldn’t it?

For now, though, the answer to that one is still sealed up nice and tight in J.J.’s “Mystery Box”…

(Thanks to Harry Tyler for giving us the heads up on this one!)

Didn’t we see some production art where “Kira” looked very Billie-ish? But if “Kira” is Leia’s daughter, it is entirely possible that the artist simply used Billie Lourde as a visual reference (Carrie Fisher’s real-life daughter — such a funny injoke, hm?) The art could have been made before anyone had actually been cast. I think we are pretty much in agreement that “Kira” is the main action girl of the film, and that she is portrayed by Daisy Ridley.

Oh dear, the ‘intelligence’ that comes from the internet never ceases to amaze me. To answer your ‘question’, no, it would mean you are better able to judge appearance, as you are clearly unable to at the moment, based on your conclusions. But my guess is that it partly has to do with your perception of the average appearance of 58 year old women anyway, so hopefully after your eye test you can take the time to look at other 58 year old women and realise how deluded and warped your perception has become, most likely via the media, and then you can lower your clearly inane expectation in regards to Carrie’s appearance.

I’m afraid you will find that it is you who decided to sprout ridiculous negativity with your rude comments. I’m not being uptight. It’s clear you are just a rude internet troll who squirms at the first sight of intelligence in a discussion and the only thing you can think to do is cry out ‘calm down’. Oh dear. I’m not having a heart attack. On the contrary, I am very relaxed and simply bringing common sense into the equation. Talking logic is far more fun than talking stupidity – you should try it some time 🙂 It is however rather worrying if you think rudely bashing someone’s appearance, with no wit or grace or humour whatsoever, actually qualifies as a ‘joke’. Saying someone looks older than their mother is not funny. It’s an insult. Joking is good. Insulting is wrong. Yes. It’s true. I’ll let that sink in.
Don’t loose your panties like a 3 year old at the first sign of someone who is going to defend and stick up for the moral standards and basic human decency.

Shortly after Episode VI Luke finds Mortis and takes on the duties of the Chosen One. Meanwhile in the galaxy at large the Alliance has made a truce with the remaining Imperial forces. The new villians appear in the form of dark side cults being banded together secretly by the main villian to start a war between the Alliance and the Old Empire. Luke is needed to rally the force sensitive youth that have not fallen to the dark side and stop the new threat and their ancient super weapon.

Anakin is the son of Darth Plagueis…. why else would Lucas himslef put that scene in , in episode 3 about Plagueis using the dark side of the force to create life ? a dark child… Anakin was doomed anyway…. use your brain… Lucas wouldnt put that scene in if it wasnt important… what else would the stories be for the new trilogy ?… the saga has always centered around the Skywalker clan and the conflict between the Jedi and Sith… Lucas words himself…

Anakin brought balance to the force. 2 Sith and 2 Jedi where alive after episode 3. Put that on your libra scale and weigh it. You can still have Skywalkers and not talk about the chosen one (watch episodes 4-6).

That storyline is finished. They have so many directions to take this film. Anakin/Vader did what was needed from him, he wiped away the old so his son could start new.

That’s about as dumb as claiming R2D2 is in fact a female because George could change his mind and make R2D2 a female. In the films everyone calls him ‘he’, so therefore the only logical conclusion you can come to is that R2D2 is a male. Just because something could be different doesn’t mean it IS different. As it currently stands, Anakin is the chosen one, so therefore Anakin is the chosen one.

“Not to beat a dead horse but Lucas words himself said Anakin was the chosen one..”

I don’t care what Lucas said; I care what the movies said.

The fact of the matter is that the OT never mentioned the Chosen One prophecy, and the PT poorly explained it. Even in Episode III, the Jedi Council was still uncertain if Anakin was the Chosen One or not.

Did Anakin believe he was the Chosen One? You’d think he’d say something about it, but it seemed to be the farthest thing from his mind.

The Jedi prophecy says excatly :

In a time of great despair
            a child will be born
            who will destroy the sith
and bring balance to the force

Anakin was not born in a time of great despair. The empire hadnt ruled yet. Luke wasnt either, cause the Empire just got started and the death star hadnt even been complete yet. do the math.

Rubbish. Firstly that was never mentioned in the films whatsoever anyway, but even so- it says ‘in great despair’, not ‘ruled by an empire’. You’re just bumbling around trying to find anything that you could warp to help support your erroneous conclusion.

Tcw tv show even states Anakin is the chosen one and that is canon.

Personally I think people who don’t like Hayden’s portrayal of Anakin, like to belittle his story.

Also you mentioned that “the chosen one would defeat the Sith” now exactly how many Sith where alive when Anakin killed Sidious?

um No. I said Luke. I meant Luke.
I never said Luke was the chosen one jeez…
I said he takes on the DUTIES of the chosen one. I am not referring to the movies so much as I am referring to the Mortis arc in the Clone Wars. Anakin was supposed to bring balance to the planet Mortis (which was made of the force) as the “chosen one” but he refused, everybody died and then he left…..
Seeing as everyone still debates this bit of the story I would say they have a loose end to tie up before moving on in other directions with the overall story..

The tweet mentions Maisie Richardson Sellers. Whatever happened to Maisie Richardson Sellers anyway? Its like she was announced and a big deal for a week or two and then NOTHING has been seen or heard again. At least Domnall Gleason and Oscar Isaacs have said things in the media about being in the movie. But we have nothing on Maisie. Weird stuff.

I’ve been wondering about that too. Given how unbelievably tight a lid J.J. has been able to keep on his “Mystery Box” with regard to TFA, I think it’s possible that Maisie actually is in the movie, but that her role (or even the fact that she was cast in the first place) is one of the million and six things that we don’t know about this film.

I have a sneaking suspicion that she is in it, however.

The fact that Carrie’s assistant tweets about them in the same breath suggests that their roles are interconnected – maybe part of Leia’s entourage and on-screen family.

“Princess leia’as daughter would almost certainly be a lead role”

And this is based on what exactly, except unsubstantiated fanboy wishes? And also no acting experience means jack, when you want a no big name cast, that could be a possibility. Happens all the time.

No major film roles means jack.

Not a single entry in your IMDB listing beyond mention of being a famous actress’ child? Tends to mean considerably more than jack in this case.

Not sure what your “fanboy” crack is about, but logically speaking, they aren’t going to write in a daughter for one of the saga’s main characters and then just give her the “Major Derlin” treatment where the character is just a walk-on with a couple of lines. ;^)
