Potential Movie Clue In Star Wars Rebels: “Empire Day?”

The Force AwakensSPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t seen the new episode of Star Wars: Rebels “Empire Day” then you may want to stop reading and move along until you can catch the episode. Otherwise, you’ve been warned. Continue reading, if you dare, after the break.

First and foremost, it should be noted that this investigation was performed by one of our Cantina members named “Mike.” He astutely unveiled something, a little “Easter Egg” that may or may not have some ramifications on the Sequel Trilogy, but are intriguing nonetheless. Thanks Mike!

Sabine

Now on to the juicy tidbits. Mike started a thread in The Cantina forum — which has turned out to be a great source for tipsters and discoveries such as this — called “Possible Hint In Rebels ‘Empire Day.'” In the latest episode there is a scene in which Sabine is viewing a holographic tactical pane. On the pane is written some text in the basic Star Wars font known as “aurebesh.” You can see an example of this font on The Cantina title bar. Mike did some translating and this is what he came up with:

See File = 11/27/13 For the most recent stratefy and tactics from Imperial Opter rim high command

As you may have noticed it appears that there are some words that are spelled incorrectly. Mike surmised that since the transmission was encrypted it would have been garbled. At any rate it’s some good detective work. As you may also notice there appears some numbers in the obvious form of a date. Mike did some Google-snooping and discovered that the date was the release date for the “Star Wars Legacy” Volume 2 Issue 9 Dark Horse comic book. Further investigation revealed this interesting find:

Ania Solo

A lot of the “Legacy” era has been about these larger-than-life Emperors and royalty—we’re taking this down to much more of a ground level. Ania Solo is somebody that is not a part of that world, and she doesn’t have a personal connection to it. She may have even turned her back on it.” […] “She’s living in a backwater, Outer Rim system. She runs a junkyard and she doesn’t have that many prospects, and that’s where we start things. Our story takes off there.”

A lot of these elements seem familiar don’t they? A female Solo . . . Living on a backwater planet in the Outer Rim . . . Running a junkyard without many prospects . . .  Recall that Simon Kinberg said, at this years WonderCon, that the old EU “Legends” are fair game for the new filmmakers:

“It’s certainly not off limits, it’s certainly inspiring. I’m working on an animated show for them as well [in] ‘Star Wars Rebels’ that will take inspiration from everywhere, but I know for the movies the canon is the canon and the canon is the six films that exist.”

But wait! There’s more! Mike did another search which revealed this interesting factoid about this “Ania Solo”:

Ania Solo

Solo was working as a junk dealer in the Carreras system, and she accidentally discovered the lightsaber of Imperial Knight Yalta Val after an Imperial communications droid containing the lightsaber turned up in her junkyard.

Even more rumored elements that we’ve been reporting — Female working as a junk dealer . . . Accidentally discovers a lightsaber . . . With connections to an “Imperial Knight” . . . All very eerie in their familiarity of the slew of rumors we’ve heard during this past summer’s Principal Photography. Surely these not-so-coincidental “coincidences” roughly describe Daisy Ridley’s character as we’ve heard them? Would Disney — knowing that The Force Awakens was just on the horizon — allow Dark Horse to move forward with a storyline that contained elements that they planned to use in the feature films?! I would like to think they would NOT, however these similarities cannot be denied.

Also, now is the time to remind you of our article called “Could Recent Star Wars: Episode VII Rumors Come From Star Wars: Legacy, Volume 2?” that we posted back in August. You can read it HERE.

Ania Solo

So the alleged date? Is it a date? Would Disney really put this important date — posing as a massive clue — into Rebels merely as an Easter Egg? IF it is a date then it points to November 27th of 2013 in which case the aforementioned comic was released, a comic that holds a lot of striking similarities to the rumors we’ve heard. OR could the date point backwards and forwards? What I mean by that is that maybe it is pointing to “Legacy” for the clues we’ve detailed, but perhaps it is also pointing forward to November 27th of 2014, which is right around the corner. That date happens to be Thanksgiving. And as we’ve been reporting there is a rumor suggesting that the alleged Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer will be dropping sometime soon. However, there doesn’t seem to be any remarkable franchise movies opening on that date unless the trailer were to drop on network television, which seems unlikely.

Okay, so there you have it! Daisy Ridley’s character may have been greatly influenced by “Ania Solo.” But what are you waiting for?! We want to hear what you think, so get in on the exciting conversation here!

Much of this is circumstantial conjecture, which I find mostly harmless. But I did want to weigh in on the “teaser” speculation.

There continues to be, in my opinion, an incorrect belief that the teaser has to be (and will be) attached to either a Disney movie in theatres or a franchise of another kind. While that may have been the way things worked when the prequel trailers launched, that has increasingly stopped being a studio tactic. Oh, they’re attached to things…but more and more, the big things drop online first. Marvel -wanted- to tie the Ultron trailer to Agents of SHIELD, but in the end, ended up releasing it a week earlier online. The Hobbit trailers have all been online first, as have been a number of other trailers (Guardians of the Galaxy released it’s big trailer on Facebook). Assuming that the trailer has to be tied to a big release in theatres continues to be an assumption that has no backing, based on movie releases from a decade or more ago. It might be tied to a movie…but anymore, the goal of these things is to get millions of online views and shares. You don’t get that with a movie in theatres.

And you can be sure, if JW was tapped to write music for the trailer, it ain’t going to be some abstract 30 second teaser.

JW hired to score the music of the trailer? I do not buy it.
He will probably score the whole thing, then they use his music for a later trailer.
Regarding a teaser or even an early longer trailer, they already have enough Star Wars music from the six previous episodes that would fit perfectly with a new teaser/trailer.
So, why would they ask John Williams to score only a 1 or even 3 minutes thing?

because Disney is a greedy empire? I csn well imagine them to have jj forced to get Williams music for the trailer. Purely fulfilling fanservice. Thats the probly of producers, they can gez their fat, greasy fingers everywhere they please, you simply buy some John Williams music. Unfortunately thats not how it should proceed.

Right? PT and ST are about 50 years apart. What if this character was related to Obi-Wan?

However, it all seems too good to be true. Which likely means, it is! It may well be a well thought out ploy, dropping breadcrumbs that lead ingeniously down the wrong path and to dubious conclusions.

If they are releasing the teaser on thanksgiving, they may do it on tv and not in theaters first. I haven’t checked the schedule but the nfl always has 2-3 games on thanksgiving day. The games typically get significantly higher ratings than the “normal” regular-season games. Usually all broadcast on different channels. Again, I haven’t checked the schedule, but ESPN usually broadcasts one of them. Disney owns ESPN, premiering it during the game could be a good way to reach the “average” viewer.

That would be more unique than anything. You can reach more people through television than anything.
Just air the trailer during prime time or something. That almost nevery happens. Strange, considering the amount of people you can reach.

There is no ESPN game on Thanksgiving Day. CBS at noon. Fox at 4:30. NBC at 8:30. There is a college football game on ESPN that night, though. If I were a betting man (and I am)…if they were to drop the trailer on Thanksgiving Day…I’d do it during the NBC night game.

      That said…

Honestly, it would surprise me to have an online trailer release on Thanksgiving Day. Mostly because people are often away from home, away from computers, etc. Hard to go quickly viral like that, when so many people are busy doing other things. That’s why if I were to release it that day, I’d do it at night during primetime. That way it could be in theatres on Black Friday, which (believe it or not) is a big movie weekend.

I still believe we won’t get a trailer until December. But I’ve been wrong before.

I find it very hard to believe Disney would lead us to such a huge plot point if it were real. I thought JJ and company wanted to protect their secrets and this would not be protecting it. If it were true someone on Rebels is getting fired. I’m thinking the guy with the cowboy hat (btw don’t think he is getting fired).

Old recycled rumor. You already posted this on August 21, 2014. And yeah, it sounds like more false info. Or the comic book writers knew the outline for the movie and were inspired by it. But nothing more.

Remember Lucas and Kennedy commissioned Arndt to write a script in early 2012 around the same time as the comic. I doubt Arndt or even Kasdan/Abrams during the rewrite looked to this random comic for inspiration.

Kasdan is no fanfic writer lol. The man’s an accomplished screenwriter and director. Of course he didn’t have to base his script on some comic book series, written by people a lot less talented than him, in all likelihood. So again, I was just being sarcastic. I just find it hilarious that some folk would actually be gullible enough to believe this, is all.

So JJ and Disney are looting the SW Legacy universe for ideas, but cannot loot the SW EU because in the Disney verse it does not exist, yet the characters from Legacy are offshoots (descendants) of those from the SW EU, or are connected in some way to it. So then if the Extended Universe is an alternate version, I guess then the descendants of the EU characters can be characters in the Disney verse version, because they are all tied together by the force no matter what universe they hail from. Geez that’s confusing.

So is the Disney verse Ania Solo, the daughter or niece of Han, or is she an immaculate conception like her namesake, and that’s why Han and Leia are separated, because Han believed she cheated on him with Luke and all three aren’t talking to each other.

JJ’s taking Star Wars back to it’s roots, i.e, the OT. I would think, keeping with tradition, that TFA teaser will be released in the cinema.
    Probably with The Hobbit.

Just hit me, if they go all in with the female hero it could be like the Hunger Games. I don’t know. Its just the kneejerk reaction I think the public will automatically relate to. Give her a light-bow. Nightsisters energy bow is the right term.

I’m not christian or anything but i randomly put those numbers into google and got a passage this is a quote. ‘The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’

That’s a long shot but it sounds like the rumor of Lukes exile, to somewhere we do not yet know

The similarities with the costume of the Sith apprentice in Legacy and Force Awakens are too much of coincidence not to be shared. I still think the character we are seeing is Darth Ruin’s apprentice. Sith master Ruin likely isn’t even in the movie. There is no actor named as to who would play him. He likely dies offscreen when the apprentice kills him in some sort of tie-in comic from Marvel much like the Clone Wars microseries introduced Grevious a year before for Revenge of the Sith.

I think he nailed it! Check what Wokipedia says…

Ania Solo was a Human female who was a member of the House of Solo, a descendant of the smuggler Han Solo and the Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo. She was also a distant cousin of Empress Marasiah Fel.[2] By 138 ABY, Solo was working as a junk dealer in the Carreras system, and she accidentally discovered the lightsaber of Imperial Knight Yalta Val after an Imperial communications droid containing the lightsaber turned up in her junkyard. Enlisting the help of her Mon Calamari friend Sauk, Solo attempted to sell the weapon on Carreras Major, but soon became the target of a Sith posing as Val when the Sith learned that she had his lightsaber. Pursued by the star system’s security forces, Solo, Sauk, and their friend AG-37 joined forces with the Imperial Knight Jao Assam in order to locate the real Val, but they were captured by security forces not long afterwards, and Solo’s friends were injured in a battle with the Sith during their escape attempt. Determined to save her friends, Solo pursued the Sith and helped prevent the Sith’s attempt to execute the real Master Val live on a galaxy-wide broadcast, and Solo was able to save her friends and escape the destruction of the Carreras G51 communications array.

Your warm but not quite hot… Yes their is dissinfo going on some sites like this one,and they are run by Disney.
I do not know much but yes the message points to the comic in question. And it was Kennedy and jjs idea to do so the “mystery box would be a great tool to use in pre marketing…” was close to the quote in the letter packet we got about the handover to marvel and that is all I can say as I do not know much. Sorry I’m joining the party so late but there is a character called Antares Draco that could easily be Oscar Issac’s character and he’s gets married to Marasia Fel who Ania Solo. The fact that Ania is a Solo also explains why Hans doesn’t have his ship either. Ultimately I think they used the comic as a starting point and built something different from there. I’m cool with this. It works as a solid homage to the CU, works the older cast in, and leaves enough room to move forward with something super new.
