Poe Dameron and His Black X-Wing?

Oscar Issac

I’m sure many of you probably have already figured this out. Nevertheless here’s a very good post from our Cantina boards with some impressive detective work…

All credit goes to our member cassidy

Here’s a full quote of the story:

Most of us are aware that spy shots were taken of the black and orange/red X-Wing at the RAF base a few months ago:

Black-X-WingIf you look at the recently released trading cards from the teaser you’ll see that the X-Wing pilot “Poe” (Oscar Isaac) has a black and red helmet – but this particular shot for the card was taken with the windows fogged up on the side of the X-Wing.

(It’s also interesting that it says “Poe Dameron in HIS X-wing”.. which might be a hint that there is something unique about it)

If you watch the actual trailer you’ll see that the fog/moisture on the windows fades away and you can see that the engine housings are a dark color past the silver nacelle trim (just like in the spy shot above):

IsaacIf you look at the X-Wing and pilot from the Force for Change promo with JJ you’ll see that the engine housings are a lighter grey color and the pilot has a white helmet:

x-wing

All I’m getting at is I believe the scenes in the trailer that flip from Oscar’s character to the X-Wing formation skimming over the water aren’t directly connected, as I believe his character “Poe” is flying the black X-Wing.

Even though the sound connects in the trailer scene, I believe this was done through editing.

So maybe Poe is an experienced squadron leader – an awesome pilot – and has a sweet unique black X-Wing?

Maybe this means that he is more of a Han Solo type character and will focus on his piloting skills rather than force abilities?

Very interesting indeed.

Pretty sure ‘Poe Dameron’ is a cover name (despite the official press release). It’s too similar to Cameron Poe (Con Air), to be a coincidence. I’d wager his last name is either Solo or Skywalker, and they are keeping it secret as long as possible.

ANd what the … has to do the silly Con Air with this new SW movie?
      Of course is a coincidence.
In Con Air there’s nothing to tribute, For God Sake!!

Poe Dameron, is probably as much an alias, as John Harrison was to Star Trek Into Darkness (and he turned out to be Khaaaaaaan!!!!)

          That’s a different think.
It could be a cover name, that’s for sure, but i can guarantee you no one in SW7 will tribute Nicholas Cage charatcer’s name in Con air.
          😉

Nobody’s talking about a tribute to one of Cage’s countless mediocre films, don’t worry. It’s just a fact that the name of Cage’s character in Con Air is similar to Oscar Isaac’s alleged character’s name in TFA.

And it’s a great catch too. I mean, I watched Con Air when it came out, and since I’ve never watched it again, I couldn’t remember the characters’ names if my life depended on it. And it’s precisely because of how much of a stinker that film is that you do NOT want anything in the next installment on the most popular movie saga of all time to be seen as a tribute to Con Air, of all things haha!

That black x-wing actually looks sleeker and more interesting with the white cloth draped over it.

Pshhh.. “Luke”? What is this, BIble camp? And what’s a “Han Solo”, a masturbation joke? The greedy guy is called “Greedo”? And “Tarkin” is way too close to “Tardis” to be a coincidence. Who came up with these stupid names!? YOU RUINED STAR WARZSSSSSSSS

      No. Overthinking it.

Nobody knows or cares what the name of the character in Con Air was.

Here, let’s step back in time. “Count Dooku is way too similar to Count Dracula and Christopher Lee plays them both – NO WAY! Also , Sudoku is a really popular new game and this sounds just like it. They would never use this name for Star Wars!”

His character should be the bad ass pilot for the republic. But since a lot of rumors are saying that the line between good and evil in this movie is pretty blurry, I would venture to say that he might be with the republic but he might be the iron fist that ends up kinda being an “Anti-villain”. I imagine a lot of these old squadron guys are sick of the war and want to kill who ever they have to to bring and end to the war torn turmoil and space poverty.

If he is a Han Solo type, he may take over the millennium falcon if Han dies.
    Maybe with or without Chewy

Chewie has a life long debt to the entire Solo family. If Han dies, Chewie will remain in the saga…

Chewie would be a nice connection to the past because the guy can live for a very long time… and as much as people are going to disagree, ANYBODY skinny and over six feet tall can play Chewbacca.

I agree anyone tall and thin CAN play Chewie but it won’t be the same. They’ll have to really study Peter Mayhew’s movements to get it right. That costume was just a big, shaggy rug until he stepped into it.

It is growing on me as well. I think Poe Dameron may be my favorite name of the new ones so far. Maybe it’s because we don’t have last names for the other leads yet(besides Kylo Ren). Add a last name to the other two and they may strike the perfect chord to my Star Wars ear. 🙂 Maybe Rey is short for Reya (to rhyme with mom’s name)? Reya Solo? Finn Leonis? Starting to sound pretty Star Warsy now…:)

In ROTJ some pilots have his personalized helmets but all have the same ships.

I think turbines are clearly grey in the Poe Dameron photo..

That’s what it looks like or some other light color. I don’t see anything dark. The fog/cloudiness isn’t heavy enough to the point it would be difficult to see black. The shit about the helmet colors would match though.

But then again, they say everyone sees colors differently so what the fuck can you do?

Llewyn Davis just rules. Oh you haven’t watched Inside Llewyn Davis? It’s a perfect movie… but you can only really grasp it if you watch it at least two times.

Nothing is perfect, but the Coens get always so close as one can get. And Oscar Isaac’s performance is so full of nuances that you won’t catch it the first time. Every scene in this movie ends at the excatly right moment. But thats also a thing you only notice on repeated viewings. That goes also basicly for all Coen Films imo. (Not Intolerable Cruelty)

Don’t mean to blow your theory out the water but if you take a look at the black x wing engines in the RAF base photo there is the silver trim, immediately after that there is a orange/red band between the rest of the black on the engine. This is not evident in the cockpit shot of Dameron.

If he is an ace pilot, I believe he’s the one flying the falcon in the last shot of the teaser. By the high trading card number, this is close to the end of the film where Han is no longer around!

You gave the promo picture of JJ with a grey and blue “x-wing” to confirm that Poe isn’t flying it.. Well its actually not an x-wing, it’s a z-95 headhunter unless i’m mistaken (god i feel like such a nerd for noticing this haha). only two engines and two laser canons, no S-foils. So i’ts definitely not Poe’s

    • December 16, 2014 at 11:40 pm

I noticed this too. Z-95 is supposed to preced the X-Wing model, so it was supposed to have been considered an older ship in the original trilogy. 30 years later it’s like driving a 57′ chevy in 2014.

      That’s the new X-Wing confirmed by StarWars.com, not Z-95.

    • December 18, 2014 at 4:22 pm
      Permalink

if you look at the trailer, the new generation of x-wings have s-foils that actually split up and down, and when not in attack position fit together into one wing, like a Z-95. combined with the fact that every major source, including StarWars.com, are saying that they’re X-Wings, I would say its pretty safe to say that they are.

From a logic standpoint, having Z-95s in the new trilogy, when only fans of the EU know what they are, is just silly
