Speculation: Was Mizzlewump Right About His Episode VII Leaks?

death-star1Earlier this year, an anonymous poster by the name of Mizzlewump left a broad outline for the plot of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. One of his points recently gained support from newly-released evidence posted on other Star Wars news sites, so make the jump to find out why one of the earliest text leakers had the right idea about the movie (Spoilers Ahead).

To start off, it’s important to explain what Mizzlewump posited. He directly stated the following about the role of the Sith in the plot:

  • The Republic are excavating ruins on a neutral world for a weapon; the world factors into tense negotiations the Empire have had with the Republic, and is referred to as the “Sith Homeworld”.
  • Loredump: In the script, the Sith are a couple thousand years old, founded by an ancestor of Palpatine called Ruin; the apprentice in this film also goes by that name.
  • The ruins within the Sith Homeworld are a control station; the planet itself is the weapon.

Another statement that came from the elusive Mizzlewump was that Luke has not been seen for a long time – leading some to speculate that he had been kidnapped at some point. Both of these rumors seem to be supported by a post from Brandon Rhea of Star Wars Fanpedia, claiming that he has some exclusive details:

Past rumors about Luke’s whereabouts have included him being in captivity, as well as being in seclusion because he has become very powerful and he fears what his powers could do to those around him and to the galaxy. From what we’ve learned, both of these rumors are true. From a certain point of view.

It appears that this super weapon is a naturally-occurring, planet-based weapon, and Luke is being held nearby. He and his captors, whoever they are, know that if Luke uses his uber-Jedi abilities, the weapon will be triggered—potentially destroying an entire star system. And so Luke has remained there for all these years, not using his powers and cutting himself off from his friends and family.

DeathStar2

When these rumors first came to light, a few people were surprised to hear that the creative team behind the film was going with another planet-destroying weapon as a plot device, and subsequently tried to discredit the leak. After all, a Death Star III would easily come across as a likely story. However, new information suggests that this new weapon is one of a completely different nature entirely. Jason Ward of Making Star Wars suggests that he might have a more full picture on what this Sith device really is, and that it might not be a conventional doomsday weapon:

If accurate, it certainly presents an interesting stalemate for Skywalker. That said, what is the viability in a weapon that destroys the system it is in and presumably itself? I know very little about the “super weapon” myself. The concepts I have seen that relate to the idea are outlier pieces and don’t really scream “super weapon” to me. One looked like a sink hole almost exactly identical to Utapau in Revenge of the Sith. Another looked like a factory on Mustafar, mostly unfinished but with giant flags hung outside it. Strangely, these two pieces were important enough to make their way to Pinewood where another source independently identified seeing them. Weird, right?

My personal impression is if there’s accuracy to the rumors, its more of a mutually assured destruction scenario. You cannot point the weapon at another system like the Death Star. But the weapon keeps Luke Skywalker from being active in the galaxy. Good cannot run rampant. So eventually, something “awakens” in for good and evil outside the past generation’s Détente. Its an interesting concept. It would make both rumors true that Luke is in self-imposed exile and a prisoner at the same time.

In any case, it’s beginning to sound more and more like the ideas that Mizzlewump leaked out are the real deal. But is this truly the direction Disney and company want to take the franchise? To paraphrase a Jedi Master, the plot outline for a movie that comes out a year from now is difficult to understand – the future is always in motion. Nonetheless, we’ll keep you covered.

If true, this sounds very disappointing. Though, of course, we don’t know all details.

If false, there’s still hope the plot might be good.

Even though the planet weapon is not the death star, the idea is way too close to the death star thing anyway. Which sucks. Not much imagination there.

Hollywood movies often go the “the bigger the better, especially in sequels” so, according to this “logic”, the new weapon has to be bigger than the Death Star. How mature, right?

I don’t mind another huge weapon
    1. it shows that the Empire or whoever controls it is still Evil. I want good vs Evil to still be the main theme
    2. It sounds like a different sort of weapon that destroys far more than the death star.
    3. Maybe the Sith Lord or an Evil force is behind or pulls the strings for the weapon
    4. I hope the weapon isn’t Destroyed in episode 7 like the death star in episode 4. It would be too lame.
    5. I hope JJ doesn’t make mirror image scenes like he did in Star Trek into Darkness. That was a bit lame and unimaginative

People keep saying these leaked plots don’t sound good. I, for one, will not mind whatever plot that Disney chooses. What does everyone want anyways? A new clone war? A continued fight with the rebels vs. empire, one trying to over throw the other? Or the million and one plot points in the EU on the big screen? What will make people happy? Nothing it seams, so Disney will use the outline for the ST that George Lucas wrote to bring a story to us that will continue GL vision of Star Wars, not some already told story, or some EU adventure tale. That is the smart choice for Disney and with the character names revealed as nothing from the old EU, I couldn’t be happier, because this shows us that this Is George’s continued vision for Star Wars coming to life. “Excalibur is being handed down to the next generation”

All I care about is seeing a state-of-the-art circa 2015 LucasArts created TIE fighter space battle.

And there’d BETTER be a segment on that in “Battlefront”, too! WITH a cockpit-view option, puh-leeze.

While most parts of the Mizzlewump’s report are lining up but others are clearly not. It was a second draft in progress, things could change. The student of Palpatine as being the Sith mastermind for example. The rumor now is saying the Sith master predates Palptaine. And then there’s the issue of Boyega’s stormtrooper character. Is it Finn Calrissian?

The main thing is that, I heard JJ hates the prequels and wants to focus on the style of the original ie
    1. Interesting dynamic characters
    2. Interesting script and storyline
    3. Less explanation more story based(prequels were more an explanation trilogy ie trade negotiations, senate, republic, etc)
    4. More mysticism less details ( ie less about midiclorians and more about the force in general) I think the film’s title shows that.
    5. No Jar Jar Binks lol
    6. More heart and soul
    7. Wow moments (I am your father, death star explosion, amazing lightsaber battle)
    8. Less lightsaber use (not too much, used to move the story along and ultimately an amazing lightsaber scene)

I may be wrong on some of these, but I hope JJ is on the same wavelength

JJ is a star wars fan and good director so HOPEFULLY he will give us something special

So let me get this straight…

Abrams is going to give us something “special”, only because he’s a fan of the OT, a good director, and he hates the PT?

Well, since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I’ll give mine in response to your post: no JJ Abrams film is better for my taste than the PT. Not a single one.

For the sake of all of SW fans (OT, PT, and general SW fans like me) I hope you’re right that this above-average filmmaker (again, for my taste) can deliver something special, though I seriously, seriously, seriously doubt it.

It`s what those people like to do more than anything. Hate something.

The prequels gave me all these things and more including all the amazing duels which did move the story along at the same time.

Too bad that you can`t see it when I can.

I really don`t think you are going to be happy at all with the new movies.

    Noah-Juan:

Until we start getting some “making of” books that explain the whole TFA story-writing process that evolved with Lucas, JJ, Arndt, Kasdan, etc., it’s hardly certain at this point if this episode is conforming to Lucas’s original sequel ideas. You said, “the character names revealed as nothing from the old EU…shows us that this Is George’s continued vision for Star Wars coming to life”, but that’s a flimsy argument. George always liked to recycle his old unused ideas and character names from his original drafts, like “Mace” for example, or “Valorum”. So I wonder why absolutely none of the new character names are recognizably ‘recycled’ in that same tradition? After all, there are still tons of names to be culled from George’s old drafts:

    Aay Zavor
    Akira Valor
    Alana
    Ashandi
    Atetu
    Autter
    Bahiri
    Baron Rabatt
    Boma
    Bomoje
    Bunden Debannen
    Captain Prue
    Cos Dashit
    Datos
    Gordon
    Huu Tho
    Jode
    Jom
    Justin Valor
    Kadar
    Kayos
    Kazan
    Kuro
    Lettow
    Lex-321
    Mara Horus
    Mir Nash
    Montross Holdaak
    Ny Connie
    Occo
    Oeta
    Ovan Marekal
    Oxus
    Quist
    Sandage
    Sate Molock
    Sate Pestage
    Son Hhat
    Valker
    Vantos Coll
    Yonna
    Yuell
    Zara

I bet if any of these had been used, however, they would have gotten the same negative reaction that “Poe” and “Ren” are getting.

I’m sure the story will be fine when in context. I mean ANY film synopsis sounds pretty inane in writing, but when it’s in context and on film in a proper story, it’s fine. The only thing that is truly ridiculous is the opening shot being a floating hand.. Why not a star destroyer to echo the original opening? But instead of the camera being underneath and the star destroyer moving away, the camera is on top and the star destroyer is moving towards the camera. To show that the empire is now in a different position and it now has different motives. Maybe it’s all beat up and has parts missing or replaced, and the audience is now immediately full of questions in regards to the state of the galaxy and the empire. The only question’s that the audience will be filled with by seeing a friggin’ floating hand, is “What the f*** is this sh*t?”

To everyone who thinks this is not a good idea,

Offcourse it’s a good idea! It’s called StarWars..And that means it’s a moviefranchise about war amongst the stars. Building a big gun to win a war is exactly what could happen. I don’t know if it is real but it’s not because of Hollywood’s modus Operandi to go with bigger and more sequels, it’s about staying true to what the movie is all about.

Those reoccurring images of the Pod racer engine being in the trailer, the Omaze tease, the TMZ leaked pictures, being on the desert planet.

Then being seen in the Yavin like base pics that leaked, from an over set shot from either a plane or helicopter.

Two completely different locations on our planet, filmed for the movie, which will be two completely different planet environments.

That Pod Racer like engine is either purchased from the Auction house on desert planet for the Falcon or its the doomsday generator.
Yes I’m saying that Part that looks like an engine of some sort may very well be one of if not the main maguffin of the film.

The falcon is also at both locations and if the falcon needs it, then it is a bit hard to fly with out it. I think the falcon transports it to the base from desert planet at some point.

A sun crusher or star system devistator of some kind. That was pulled from Rey’s Salvage yard. And as to why the Empire is showing up with Boyega, whether he is a Storm trooper or not.

I’m not saying I know it to be the case, but why does some part for “some really fast buggies” have to be toted around the galaxy.
To reuse a noticeable prop that big is unnecessary in a “4 billion dollar movie”

I REALLY like the Idea of Luke’s Reclusion. It will put the new and old heroes in a great adventure. Search for him to fight against the evil Forces once again, in a rush in to the galaxy with the Empire (or maybe the republic itself? why not?) rushing to catch our friends. But I hope the plot will have a LOT of points that attach the history with the original AND prequel triology. If the Empire is still arround, i think a good point will be make it much less powerful but in some kind of “minor cold war” with the republic or whatever else.(on a first moment of Course). It wont make sense make the Empire in the Same way that was in original trilogy, or the Rebels Victory will be meaningless, as Lukes victory ass well. About the Sith Lords: Maybe the Master of Palpatine? Who was? Plagueis or another one? Maybe an Ancient sith that somehow survived all these years and for some reason only now have decided to show his face? Maybe RESSURECTED siths from the past? Or, what do you Think, a Sith that traveled in Time? Whatever WEAPON they have, it NEEDS to be VERY different from the Death Star, in Nature, AND power. Or it will be only a “Dearth star III” making the new trilogy pointless. But i don’t liked much this ideia that is suposed “LEAKED”.
