Star Wars: The Force Awakens Reshoots to Take Place in LA on February 15th-17th!
A post on Facebook suggests that there will be some additional filming taking place in Los Angeles on February 15th-17th. Read more after the jump.
The post comes from Aaron Kennedy, an independent musician, actor and artist. Here’s what he said: (via Facebook)
– Filming for my bit in Star Wars: Episode VII takes place in LA, February 15th-17th and I would love to see all my LA friends while I’m there, so be sure to get in touch with me now to schedule some trouble.
We’ve tried to find more info on Kennedy and found out that he is actually listed on IMDb as one of the cast members on The Force Awakens. He is to play a “Cloaked Messenger”.
As we know, IMDb is not the most reliable source and anyone can edit it, but this bit fits nicely with Aaron’s post above. Obviously he will have a minor role but it’s interesting to know that they are still doing some additional filming for the movie.
Reshoots and pickup shots are, of course, a completely normal part of big budget moviemaking. Few blockbuster films like TFA make it through production without at least some reshoots being scheduled. This just gets us one more step along the way to Opening Day this December!

Reshoots or secret scenes…
Umm, every single scene they’ve shot is a secret …
Deleted scenes for the DVD i guess.
Um, what? Deleted scenes are regular scenes filmed with the rest of the movie and then cut out – hence the “deleted” bit. Unless this is a joke. It’s hard to tell on the internet.
Pretty sure that was a joke.
Reshoots are a pain.
The actor’s post does not say “reshoots” anywhere. Some clickbait reporting here. Additional filming doesn’t necessarily mean reshoots. In the industry, it could simply be “pick-ups” – completely different from reshoots. His stint on TFA in LA could simply be pick-ups.
Even though it could very well be a pick up shot. Initial photography was announced as being completed. So reshooting a scene is very possible and the actors statement could be what is misleading being that his part had already been listed. Either way we get that more shots/filming are underway
“Some clickbait reporting here.”
You say that as if you don’t read every article published on here/ don’t google the f out SW news.
@Don Jon
Hahahaha, clickbait? So if the title said “additional filming” instead of “reshoots”, you wouldn’t have clicked it? Give me a break.
For a few weeks now there are rumors for upcoming reshoots for the movie. No one really cares if they are pick ups or reshoots.
It’s 2 days of additional TFA filming. Take it as you like. Geez…
You tell ’em Viral! I wish you’d silence the haters more often.
I agree, Obi Wan’s false beard for a pick up shoot was very noticeable being Ewan had shaved after initial filming for AOTC.
In what shots?
Any shot where it looked like his beard was about to fall off. It looked like the aviators press conference scene in Night at the Opera!
It’s been a long time since I watched AOTC, but I believe Ewan’s clip-on beard is there in the first scene with Obi Wan and Anakin in the elevator going up to Padme’s apartment, and also in the “This weapon is your LIFE!” scene just before they follow the shape shifter into the nightclub.
Or in phantom menace when he is totally wearing a wig in some scenes
Is a reshoot a good/bad sign?
Well, can be both.
Reshoots are very common In modern film making. They probably edited the movie and saw that it needed a few insert shots they missed, wanted to change a scenes tone to match the rest of the movie, Or needed an extra scene to clear something up.
Nothing too out of the ordinary. But if they pushed the movie back and went into reshoots, Then there is probably something really wrong.
Exactly. It means nothing about how good or bad the film is, it’s common practice.
Years ago it was only done if the first edit wasn’t good but now it’s done on every film because standards are so much higher (in that respect).
It is neither good, nor bad. it happens all the time. It would depend on why. It is noticeable that the pickups are being shot inside. So they either appear in interior shots only or are being green screened in. This film is being edited in LA right?
Most films have some pick ups for various reasons. They are planed before before principal filming even begins. Could be as the previous post state for editing reasons or there maybe a scene that didn’t turn out quite right, continuity error, etc and they have to re-film it.
FWIW…. One of the final scenes in Lord of the Rings, Return of the King had to be filmed 3 times. 1st time the camera was out of focus. 2nd time one of the actors forgot a piece of his costume, 3rd time they got it right. It was the scene where Bilbo and Frodo get on the boat to go live with the elves. So stuff happens and if they didn’t do pick ups, I would be worried about what type of stuff they were willing to accept.
It’s a good thing.
Just think of a writer, doing final revisions before delivering the story to the publisher.
In both cases it’s about making the work the best it can be before the audience sees.
He plays Darth Vader
Hard to tell. But reshoots are probably better than post production. Fix it in place
He plays JubJub the hutt nephew of Jabba
Haha, was this an attempt at a Conan, Simpsons, SW Easter egg request reference?
Thank you for moving the like button away from reply, and this should help when people leave links, also the click to edit feature has space from reply as well.
I also wish the report comment had a double click feature or are you sure, because I have hit it accidentally just by scrolling through.;)
This is not the most reliable information.
Viral Hide I honestly expect a lot better from you, I’m disappointed.
Is that picture of JJ from the Star Wars set?
It’s from Super 8.
READ BETWEEN THE LINES, PEOPLE!!!
THEY SHOT 80% FUZZY FOOTAGE!!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Um, just kidding, just kidding, just kidding.
God I remember those days.
Maybe hes just the guy who posts the facebook message letting people know when the reshoots are…and hes wearing a cloak.
…or maybe hes actually in the film
Side note: in (only somewhat) related news, Disney are looking to reboot “Indiana Jones,” with Chris Pratt as Indy.

Personally, I’d prefer it if they tried it one last time with Ford, but oh well.
As long as they don’t use Shia…
*shivers* … That could have been bad times all around.
Chris Pratt was alright in Guardians.
I just am not sure I like the idea of an Indy
reboot.
He might have done ok….with that paper bag on his head that says no longer famous.
Or maybe a plastic bag tied tight…..
Either do it with Ford or do like his son or student or something.
Sick of reboots. Hardly ever as good and you know main character will survive.
I love Pratt, but he doesn’t have the same vibe as Harrison. They need to use Anthony Ingruber. If you haven’t seen his Ford impressions, look them up on youtube. They’re frighteningly accurate.
Well, the “romance scenes” in ROTS and Luke’s Speeder scenes in ANH are reshoots.
Maybe they can get Lando a cameo. Billy does live in LA.
Report: Aaron Kennedy removed from Force Awakens filming
Darn! SO close to my Birthday! If only they were reshooting on February 19th…
You all are CGI.

“In what shots?”
When Obi Wan scolds Anakin outside the nightclub (“This weapon is your life!”) …The fake beard is terrible!
Also, the scene in TPM when Obi Wan apologizes and Qui Gon tells him, “I forsee you will become a great Master” is a pick-up shot as well. Ewan McGregor is a lot pudgier in the face, and his hair is longer and combed back in a kind of pompadour rather than the spikier flat-top in all his other scenes. Surprised they didn’t fix these things with cg.
The very opening scene in attack of the clones when they are riding in the elevator to meet padme for the first time..obi-wans beard and hair are hilarious. its like they just slapped it on.
Maybe I’m thinking too hard here, but the dude said he was filming his bit for the film. He didn’t say he was reshooting. Also since he said bit, I imagine it’s small. So this would have to be some small piece of new content right? Probably to tie up a missed loose end?
JJ had a Bad Robot post production facility built in L.A. this will all be done with green screen.
Like getting into his xwing on hoth was an additional shot done in London after all filming in Norway wrapped, that’s why she’s shot it up at the sky. But that may have been just because they had the sago at swap xwing in London and didn’t want to ship boys to Norway. Bad robot always said some stuff would shoot in la.
Still waiting for an epic 3 hours long Star Wars movie!
Here’s hope the re-shoots are needed to remove that “laser hilt”…
The additional shooting is not very important. Unless it’s a major re-shoot of a key scene [which would have been reported here by now if they were having issues with script-direction]
The fact that it’s a cloaked messenger sounds like a pick-up. Something where JJ decided to actually show someone spilling the beans on our heroes, as opposed to the bad-guy just walking in saying “hey, we found out you’re planning to destroy our base. Some guy conveniently told us offscreen…”
This ‘Cloaked Messenger’ is probably something along the lines of the ‘Masked Hood-dude’ who told the Sandtroopers what ship the droids went off to.
No big news here, just an interesting tidbit.
Holy Crap! They’re putting in an elderly Jar Jar to give Luke some back story about his dead Momma! That’s why he goes bonkers and grows a beard A REAL ONE TOO! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Re-shoots huh? I wonder if I can be a walk-on extra 😉
They should’ve done it at Skywalker ranch.
nice photo of JJ
