Editorial: The Fate of the Last Jedi
With the reveal on the season finale of Rebels and the mysterious image connected to Marvel’s Darth Vader seen here hit the jump to see our speculation on what this may mean for the survivors of Order 66.
WARNING SPOILERS BELOW
Ahsoka Tano
With Ahsoka being revealed as the mysterious Fulcrum in Star Wars Rebels, and in turn one of the leaders of the Rebellion, the question of what was her fate by Episode IV now comes into question. Having a former Jedi in their pocket would’ve been something Rebel leaders would’ve mentioned to Luke. Thus I have personally speculated that the fate of Ahsoka will be addressed in Rebels.
Ahsoka was a character created for TV, with her reveal in The Clone Wars as Anakin’s padawan. Upon her reveal the huge question loomed of how they were going to address the fact she wasn’t mentioned in Episode III (for practical reasons of course). I feel one of the great highpoints of The Clone Wars was how they handled the challenge of Ahsoka, having her turn her back on the Jedi Order. What remained was the question of what happened to her before Episode IV. In my opinion Rebels, a TV series like The Clone Wars, is the perfect choice of the medium to express her fate. We do not know yet what will become of Ahsoka but I am certain that the creative time behind Rebels will provide a fitting end to the story of our beloved Snips, and one that fits into the greater context of the new Star Wars canon.
Quinlan Vos
With the image posted at the start of the article it appears that our favorite Anti-hero of the Jedi Order, Quinlan Vos, may have survived Order 66 in canon. Vos was already declared a survivor in Legends, but the fate of several Jedi have changed in the switch over to the new canon (such as Depa Billaba and Shaak Ti). The connection with the image above and Quinlan Vos stems mostly from the upcoming novel Dark Disciple.
While Dark Disciple takes place during the Clone Wars, note the colors of the Vos’s and Ventress’s lightsaber, yellow and green. When tied together with the image of Vader used earlier the similarities are very apparent. At first it was believed by many that the Green and Yellow lightsabers may be an indication of Ahsoka Tano’s dual wielding, but with Asokha revealed as using grey lightsabers in the upcoming season of Rebels that leaves Vos and Ventress as the only other well known examples of Yellow and Green blades. It is worth noting that Vos is a personal favorite character of George Lucas who may have asked that his story be given a concrete ending instead of assuming him dead amongst the rest of the Jedi in Order 66.
Vos is a character brought to us from the comics, in a sense giving rise to the darker character he has represented in the Star Wars universe. Just as Ahsoka’s fate should be addressed in her medium, Vos deserves an ending that best fits his story which is what a comic brings. That is why I firmly believe that the green lightsaber depicted in the image is Vos’s own and the upcoming Darth Vader comics will reveal how Vos survived Order 66 and his eventual end.
Asajj Ventress
A long time fan-favorite who developed from Villain to Anti-Villain to Anti-Hero as the Clone Wars progressed. Including Ventress among Vos and Ahsoka stretches the definition of “Jedi” to its extremes. But as a powerful force user her eventual fate needs explanation as her hatred of those who betrayed her would make her a powerful threat. Whereas other Sith originating threats such as Maul have been given a relative end to their story, Ventress has yet to receive hers. With the upcoming novel focusing on her and Quinlan Vos and the image of the two crossed lightsabers fighting Vader I feel that Ventress may end her story alongside Vos.
Now there are other loose ends, most notably Kanan and Ezra, but the main inspiration for this speculation stems from the Marvel image. With the reveal of Ahsoka wielding gray (edit- white) lightsabers it suggests that Ventress and Vos’s story won’t end with Dark Disciple and we will get one last opportunity to see the two great Anti-Heroes of Star Wars battles its greatest villain. In time I expect the new canon to address just about every loose end in the era between Episode III and Episode IV, but until then we have the opportunity to speculate.
It is also worth noting that Marvel has deleted the image since it was first posted, fear of early spoilers has been common speculation on that matter. Feel free to express your views/speculations in the comments or join us at The Cantina
Insightful
The fact that these characters are not present or not mentioned in the original trilogy does not mean that they have to die before A New Hope.
Every fan wants to see Ahsoka, Vos and Ventress in a live action movie. I hope they will use them in the upcoming movies.
What marvel image is being discussed in the last two paragraphs? Gray lightsaber?
The image at the top is the Marvel cover that Bluestreaking was talking about. Ahsoka has been revealed to use white lightsabers in the series by admission of Dave Filoni.
Ventress is not a Jedi.
I said that
Then why did you put her into an article about Jedi. You should do a different right up for Ventress and Maul.
Because I pointed out that I think Ventress is meeting her end alongside Vos in a Darth Vader comic
Ventress might die, she might be iced by Vader, but that will happen on Rebels then or even in a movie.
Ashoka should also be killed by Vader; along with Kanan, Ezra and any other Jedi they’ve tried to clumsily shove into the chronology like J Edgar Hoover trying to squeeze into a new girdle.
she was trained by A Jedi Master Dooku who was A Sith Also. Also uses the force in a Sith-like way.
You get to be a staff member, You sir over there get to be a staff member, Everyone gets to be a staff member!
Do you want to be a staff member? Do you think Bluestreaking becoming one is injust? Send me a message in the Cantina and voice your concerns instead of hiding anonymously.
I was just playing. I did not know he became a staff member. Do not be so touchy. Obviously what was said was said in jest.
If you didn’t know he became a staff member then why are you making that comment?
Because I found out he became a staff member when I read this article that he wrote thus conveying the idea to me that he indeed was a staff member. Which was unknown to me before I started reading the article. Thus I thought I would make a stupid Oprah joke. Clear enough for you buddy.
You made a similar comment on his first article about a major character dying as well.
What are you talking about?
This comment here. Same IP address as yours. http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2015/02/editorial-should-a-major-character-die-in-star-wars-the-force-awakens.html#comment-370232
One that is very nosey of you. Secondly I live in house with five other star wars fans who visit this site regularly. I was just making a stupid joke about the number of staff members for the site but god forbid someone poke fun. Thirdly I will flat out tell you my Cantina account is under the name RebelForeva so you can kick me out of your forum or whatever I barely used it anyway. I may write a complaint about the prying though. That bothers me when you violate in anonymous feature.
It shows the IPs for every comment when signed in so my apologies for thinking it was the same poster. It seemed to me that you were trying to personally attack one of our Staff Members.
I know these guys because I work with them in The Cantina. Bluestreaking, out of all people, deserved and has proven why he deserves to be a staff member.
I agree with you about Bluestreaking. By the way, I have a sneaking suspicion that Viral Hide is in fact J.J. Abrams…he used to fly solo on this site and then filming began and we have a sizeable staff staff…hmm…suspicious…which I myself have dreamed to be a part of for a while but wouldn’t have time to contribute what would be expected any way (nor do I feel have I earned the right). But I just wanted to say I appreciate the heck out of you guys and I love this site. Thanks for your hard work!
One of the most concerning aspects of The Clone Wars and Rebels to me is that, in order for Episode IV to have maximum impact Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka and all Force trained Jedi / ex-Jedi must be dead. Since these two shows are geared towards children, I don’t think they’ll have the guts to do it. Which means, you’re going to have other Force trained Jedi running around the galaxy, which means Luke isn’t “our last hope” and, thereby, the stakes of the original trilogy are much lower.
Oh man your scaring me.
That’s a scary thought.
Agreed. One of the biggest issues with the EU was that a MASSIVE amount of jedi survived order 66, some even outliving luke and the OT heroes. I fear Disney may make the same mistake. I think Ahsoka, Vos, and Ventress will die at Vader’s hands but I doubt they would kill a kid. I think the most we could hope for is is Ezra and Kanan leave for “Unknown Regions” at the end of the series to help others in need. Also, isn’t maul still alive as well?
This is easily fixed without showing their deaths. Ashoka, Kanan and Ezra get a message from Bail. “My daughter has the plans to Death Star and is heading to Alderaan. We will need you to help lead the eventual attack.” They all head to Alderaan. They are there when the DS blows it up.
Not a bad call at all!
It’d give a whole new sentimental feeling to the destruction of Alderaan to the younger generations when they watch ANH. That outcome is so ideal, I feel like Filoni and the team would have to be morons not to implement it… then again, I wouldn’t put it past them.
… and Jar Jar is the Naboo Ambassador to Alderaan at that time also. One can dream, at least.
I’m not sure who mentioned it on this forum, but I think I agree with them. They said something on the order of Rebels ending with some of the members of the Rebel Alliance including Ahsoka, Kanan and Ezra being on Alderaan when the Death Star hits. Offscreen death, everybody wins.
That was me both in the forums and above you!
Actually I don’t give a shit, if Luke was the “last hope”. There’s no hope anyway.
Um, that’s kind of the point. Things are looking bleak. Having a bunch of Jedi roaming around Vos, Ventress (I know, I know), Kanan, Ezra, and Ashoka never mind Maul is still alive makes the whole point of training Luke pointless. Who cares about any of that.
That was a joke. You didn’t get it.
I think Its great that they bring as many Jedi(or near Jedi) as they could. Its a game of ‘Hunted Prey.” “Sitting Ducks.”The stakes are super high for the remaining Jedi. It will test their Character and exalt them to legendary status among the Pantheon of ‘Near Survivors’ of The Order. These few to the Canon known as The ‘Last’ of the “Purge” are the ones Ive always wondered about in my imagination. Its good that their stories be told. But not in the obvious way that
I always wanted there to be another jedi survivor aside for Kenobi and Yoda when i was a kid in the 80s. We got some Jedi in the 90’s EU: C’boath etc. But now we could get dozens of Jedi challenging Vader till the very end.
Legions of Stormtroopers led by Vader fighting the few yet powerful Jedi will echo CW nicely.
Ahsoka’s blades are “basically white” according to Filoni.
What color is George Washington’s white horse?
grey sabers? I thought dave filoni said white?
Where is the interview where he said that about the white sabers?
3:10min

Maybe Quinlan Vos will be back on Tatooine again in TFA, like he was in TPM.
Wait… what ???
He can be seen in the movie sitting in the background…
That’s not actually Voss. That guy is just the inspiration for the Voss character. George liked it so much, they made a character based off of him.
What’s wrong with red, green and blue?
I was just thinking that.
The chronology has already started to become a junkpile of predictable ideas.
“where can the producers and developers go next? Well, different lightsaber colors and hilts of course!” They need crap like that to make up for the fact that the new stories suck gungan nard
And purple…
With all the pandering in comics and movies, it’s about damn time we have a gay Jedi with a rainbow colored lightsaber. Make it happen Disney!
Where did this come from?
The unholy combination of comic book characters changing race for no reason, a token gay character in every TV show, this site’s strange fascination with lightsaber colors, a heaping dose of sarcasm, and my demented mind.
The saber should be pink then like Windu’s.
Nobody reply to this.
^^^^^If you of put a Dr.in front of your name I would have to sue you for copyright purposes. 🙂
Man, Vader’s head is tiny in that picture.
Can anyone enlighten me would the Sith destroy a dark Jedi as much as a standard Jedi ?
Non-sith dark Jedi are still a threat to sith rule
I think that artwork with the two sabers crossed in front of Vader…is Ahsoka Tano. Of course, she has two lightsabers…one green, and one yellowish….and that’s the color of those two lightsabers.
It isn’t. In the Galactic Civil War era, she uses white lightsabers.
And you already know when she get’s them?
So all of this speculation will fly out the window when MVS gets found with Yellow face tats and answers to: “Master Vos…”
;o)
He wont’ though.
I thought Ahsoka’s sabers wear GREEN? In clone wars they wear green, yes?
PS I wouldn’t mind being a staff member 🙂
One was green….the other had a slight, yet noticeable, yellow tint to it.
Dave Filoni has stated that her lightsabers are going to be almost white in Rebels
And those green/yellow-green sabers were taken from her, I think when she was arrested, and she did not get them back before she walked away from the Jedi Order.
My ideal end for Ahsoka:
Ahsoka is forced to face Vader, not knowing that he is Anakin. Anakin immediately recognizes Ahsoka and tries to get her to join him. Ahsoka realizes that Anakin is Vader through the force and, heartbroken, takes her own life. What’s left of Anakin Skywalker feels the heartbreak of witnessing Ahsoka’s death, but the dark side turns that heartbreak into rage and only fuels the evil within him.
I like most of that, although I can’t see Ahsoka taking her own life. Maybe the shock of the moment and her refusal gives Vader the upper hand and allows him to kill her?
Just a thought.
Bah! Vader is a monster at this point, twisted and evil. He guts her like a fish and orders his men to “Clean up this mess.” It would make Obi-Wan and Yoda look more like they knew what they were talking about and Luke even more crazy for believing there is any good in him and it would better add to the surprise of Luke actually being right.
^ This. Showing any of Anakin left in Vader at this point would diminish the entire OT and especially Vader’s redemption. He *needs* to be in pure nightmare monster mode right now.
The new version of Maul will have beige lightsabers and will wear a burka.
Why are the skin pigmentation patterns on adult Ahsoka completely different from young Ahsoka? It’s like two completely different Togrutas.
And how does Darth Maul’s digestive system work?
People change, do you look the same as you did when you where a teenager?
i assume it is a system similar to an rv or airplane.
Dave Filoni addressed Ahsoka’s new look in one of his many interviews. It had to do with the contract with cartoon network. There are certain things they can’t use and needed to recreate.
Style. Like in comics.
Maul manipulated the force to fuse Living Organic Matter with Robotic Machine( A recurrent theme in SW: Vader, Grievous etc). This is how Sidious saved Anakin. A little Force alchemy.
Rebels could still give us Darth Vader vs Lord Maul. Just saying.
Yes! but Vader has to do away with Maul rather fast since:
-Vader is in his Prime
-He is the ‘Chosen One’
-Gets Revenge for Qui-gon
-The Emperor wills Vader to destroy Maul and make it truly the official “Rule of Two.”
It is possible that “Anakin” not “Vader” destroys Maul, helping him to become Vader. In the CW somewhere.
I think a short article should be made to address Ahsoka’s lightsaber color in Rebels because from what I can tell there is some confusion. Yes she did have one green and one yellow-green lightsaber, but that is not the case in Rebels. To prove this, watch as Ahsoka leaves the Jedi Temple at the end of “The Wrong Jedi” in season 5. Ahsoka no longer carries her lightsabers. Throughout the trial she was without them and upon her leaving the Jedi Order, they were never returned. Sometime between her leaving the Order and becoming a Rebel Leader she found, or constructed two new blades.
P.S. It would be amazing to see Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos team up against Vader. If it happens though I would be a little sad to lose both characters. Ventress grew so much in the CW, but I guess an honorable send off would be a fight to the death against the galaxy’s Darkest Lord of the Sith. The same feelings go towards Ahsoka if she died at her old masters hands.
Yes … but Ventress can be turned to Dark Side by Vader and fight the Rebels. As an inquisitor and with the help of the empire she defeats some Jedi in an epic battle. Vos nearly succumbs but escapes and is presumed dead by empire. Vader later destroys Ventress for her betrayal and ambivalence. Making him an evil Foe. Raising his “villain”stock in the Monster category.
If Ahsoka is now a co founder to the rebel alliance then I can now see her as an elder ahsoka in sw 7. It makes sense the past collides with the present, PT to OT to ST.
Ahsoka from PT, Han solo and crew from OT, and new cast merge.
Yes and No. What would be a greater testament to the cold and menacing reality of Vader’s anger, than to destroy his former Padawan? You can’t have the Two!! Makes Vader look weak. But then again maybe Asohka brings out a Warmer side to Vader? Like Luke did in ROTJ and in turn survives longer than anticipated. Who Knows
Guys I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Harrison Ford has just been in a plane crash and is seriously injured. Listed as in “Critical Condition” http://pagesix.com/2015/03/05/harrison-ford-crashes-plane-into-la-golf-course/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=P6Twitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow
Apparently he was conscious after the crash, bad bleeding from head but was being treated.
So he’s still with us.
One of the paramedics was overheard stating that he didn’t know he could fly a plane.
Harrison responded.
Fly, yes. Land, no.
In all seriousness this is Han Solo and Indy, if anyone can walk away from a plane crash it’s him. Hell, he’s already walked away from a helicopter crash and Indy IV so he’s practically bulletproof.
Get better Harrison, my world would feel so much shittier without you in it.
Oh no. Harrison Ford injured in plane crash. Just on news
Omg! Its just been reported here in New Zealand that Harrison Ford has crashed a vintage light plane on a golf course in Los Angeles, our reports suggest multiple gashes to his head, My heart goes out to Harrison and family, I am preying that he will be ok …
Good news, Harrison Ford has been hospitalized however was conscious after the crash and was helped by patrons at the golf course until paramedics arrived.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said Harrison Ford was conscious following the crash and listed him as in “fair to moderate” condition.
Got to love the media.
“People change, do you look the same as you did when you where a teenager?”
We’re talking about skin pigmentations that have definitive patterns or shapes to them (like birthmarks or tattoos, for example). Typically, these don’t really change into completely different shapes just because you’re aging. Sure, tattoos may fade or become blurry over time, but the designs don’t transform into something completely different.
The triangles framing Ahsoka’s face have completely vanished, her ‘widow’s peak’ has disappeared, the chevron-type patterns on her head tails have turned into squiggly tiger stripes, the white patterns on her forehead have morphed drastically, etc. etc. I was unaware that the re-do of her look had to do with real-world legal mumbo-jumbo. I suppose the continuity team will now have to make up some ‘in universe’ explanation that the Togruta species undergoes some radical transformation as they mature, like a butterfly or something.
“I assume it is a system similar to an rv or airplane.”
I only watched that episode once, the one where Darth Maul was revealed to be alive and living in a junk pile, so I’m probably not remembering it accurately, but I was under the impression that he had been there all alone for quite some time, and had gone crazy.
I’m trying to imagine how he could have survived the fall, and then on top of that, how he could have had the mental and physical fortitude to cobble together a working lower half out of some conveniently located junk that would not only give him mobility, but also keep his digestive processes working properly.
Or did Sidious find Maul in the pit (like he found Vader on Mustafar) and have a medical team go through all the effort of transforming Maul into the half-cyborg? If so, why?
Maybe Ahsoka cought a shape altering virus, like the Klingons did.
Characters reflect Animators and/or Voice Actors sometimes, its the highest form of honor that can be given to someone on board the SW project. If you slightly change character appearance you may get a whole new set of fans who can generalize themselves as these beloved heroes. Seems like they are doing this in the comics too. I guess they are moving away from the likeness of the original Actors and visual concepts to a more broad and generalized range of Characters to include more people. Also the characters are being prepared to morph in to the future of SW.
The thing that bugs me (and I keep trying my hardest to look past it) is that in ANH Tarkin says to Vader “The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You my friend are all that’s left of their religion”. To me this sounds like they have been gone for a long time, decades maybe, not five years (or less) ago. I always felt that Jedi were more of an ancient myth/legend rather than something relatively recent.
How would Vader be “left of their religion” if it’s ancient?
It could still be ancient, just forgotten about. For example, Paganism is an ancient religion but it is largely forgotten about but still practiced by some people.
It was destroyed. The Temple fell and all the remnants were chased and destroyed by Vader save for a few members. It was restored by mere chance. That is exactly how it was destroyed also…. by chance. We call it the Force.
And paganism was destroyed by Christianity, my point is still valid. I’m not sure what your point is…
Also, it wasn’t destroyed by chance it was planned by Palpatine.
But the odds that both the “Good Guys” and the “Bad guys” were able to defy was just luck. Boba Fetts demise, Greedo missing Han etc.
Han shot first! 😉
So Tarkin knows that Vader is Anakin?
maybe ahsoka will not be revealed to Luke by orders of Yoda and Obi Wan to keep other surviving Jedi safe from each other until the Sith are destroyed. You never know they might bring Ahsoka into the New Trilogy as a founder of the New Jedi Order will Luke Skywalker Ezra if Kanan survives and other survivors.I believe the Max Von Syndow character is Kanan.
I doubt they would have a white actor play Kanan.
Its already been rumored that he is Boba Fett.
The New Jedi order will exist in the new movies but its size will be in the hundreds not the thousands.I believe at least 50 Jedi and their new padawans survived order 66 and Vader.Probably 20 or so Old jedis and the rest new padawans that have been trained since order 66.These 50 will help Luke rebuild the order.
The return of camelot! The knights of the round table.
I really don’t mind stray Jedi being brought to light Pre-Ep IV. The Rebels were scattered. The universe is big. Cells would be working without being in contact with main cells. And years before IV- the odd Jedi? No one may have survived to mention it. Those that did may not have known. And, it is possible they did mention it to Luke at some point, but it was as relevant to the main story lines as what Luke had for dinner.
