Speculation: Could Star Wars 1313 Get Reworked Into Visceral’s Game?

Star-Wars-13131Aside from a third console installment to the Battlefront series, 1313 was most-anticipated LucasArts project that was officially in development until the company’s untimely shutdown in April 2013. While Battlefront was confirmed to have a revival at that year’s E3, nothing has officially suggested that the Boba Fett-centric game would ever be reworked into a new game… But speculation based on fairly recent events suggest otherwise.

As many of you know, Electronic Arts got a license from Disney to work on Star Wars games after they shut LucasArts down. As such, they announced that three new game projects would be divided between three of their studios – DICE (who is working on a canon Star Wars Battlefront), BioWare (who is working on a canon game in addition to their Legends title Star Wars: The Old Republic), and Visceral Games (who is working on another canon game).

So far, the key bit of evidence that this game will be derived from the style that 1313 utilized is that two people (Amy Hennig and Todd Stashwick) behind Naughty Dog’s critically-acclaimed Uncharted series have gone from working at Naughty Dog to working at Visceral. The gameplay of 1313 greatly resembled Uncharted (see the comparison video below), and while correlation does not always equate to causation, it would make a greater degree of sense for EA to hire the people behind that series to work on a game with similar mechanics.

However, Fett fans might be a little disappointed – according to rumors we shared a while ago from an apparent insider, the game may be based on a young Han Solo instead of a young Boba Fett. In fact, Disney dropped the trademark for 1313 a long time ago, meaning that this project will likely be given an entirely new title regardless of whether or not it is a revival of the game. Nonetheless, the rumors posited there still support the hypothesis that the game will be like the Uncharted series – the game that Visceral is apparently making is an open-world third-person shooter, which, as demonstrated by the video above, are hallmarks of any Uncharted game.
In any case, we can certainly look forward to finding out more information on this game and more at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, along with the Electronic Arts presentation at E3 2015. I’ll be attending the conference myself, so keep your eyes peeled at Star Wars 7 News for information on EA’s upcoming titles as they break!

Its interesting to see SWTOR listed as Legends.

There was a rumor about it being “upgraded” to canon via some insider source. This insider source predicted the Revan expansion, the return of the Emperor, and the new species. The only thing that hasn’t happened…yet…is the upgrade to canon.

thats a shame if it never sees the light of day. The demos looked great. Hopefully all the gameplay elements and mature themes make there way to a star wars game at some point in the near future. Right now I just want a GOOD star wars game. I’m tired of these simplistic mobile phone games and I can only replay KotOR and Jedi Outcast so many times before I want something new. Please let battlefront be good!

amazing that the best frigging space combat games ever are 20 years old? Tie vs Xwing, etc… man those games were so much fun, closest thing to feeling like i was flying a starship haha. i may be wrong, im not quite as up on my video games, but has there been a more fun space combat experience than those? even if there has, man, imagine a new xwing/tie fighter simulator…ahhh thatd be fun…

Yeah, I agree that old-school games were so much more fun, graphics don’t really matter so much. I was playing Star Wars: Dark Forces last few weeks and I can say that it is the best FPS I ever played!

What about star wars galactic battlegrounds ? Remember that game. The one that uses the same game engine as age of empires. I still love this game and play it, I can never get bored of it even after all these years, same with all the old star wars games.

(P.S if they do re-release star wars 1313 I hope they ship it with a level builder/map editor like far cry 3 did where you can build your own maps and test them )

There`s so many other sci-fi/fantasy storys that would be excellent to play Age of empires 2 style, in the same format. Imagine lotr AoE style with bigger maps and mods.

Star Citizen, the X series (X3 in particular) are the two I’ve played that most closely recreate the feel of those old LucasArts sims.

I predict we will get a Rogue Squadron reboot or brand new title next fall before Rogue One hits theaters in Dec. I loved those games.

I really hope so! I was gutted when they canceled this. Had the makings of a great game from the very little we saw. Let’s hope!

I’d love something similar to Jedi Outcast (loved that game) but with more advanced mechanics and graphics. Would be amazing!

This game is most likely dead because it not a frostbite engine game, EA only uses frostbite now.
