UPDATE! Italian Star Wars Facebook Page Reveals Partial Outer-Rim/Mid-Rim Map
May The Fourth is a special date in the hearts and minds of the geekiest of Star Wars fans, but it looks like part of it might be coming a little early this year – at least in Italy, where the date is reserved for May Third. An image posted on an official Italian Star Wars Facebook page (brought to my attention by Redditor Sempere, along with The Cantina poster tyke) portrays a partial map of the Star Wars Galaxy (shown above), featuring over 90 planets and other celestial objects! This might be indicative of what planets we could see in the Sequel Trilogy and other future installments to the Star Wars Canon, so make the jump to see my analysis on the picture!
First of all, you’re probably going to want to open up that image up top in a separate browsing tab – you’ll probably want to look back and forth between the image and this article as you read it. Have you done that? Good!
It should be noted that, while the image itself is drawn like Milan’s Metro map, there is some evidence that this could be a sign of things to come. Here’s a list of all of the planets/celestial objects in question. Depending on how you count them, there are either 95 or 96 in total. They are, as follows:

A pretty comprehensive map, you might say – but only to a certain point. One thing you might have noticed about this image was that three planets that appear in the movies – Kamino, Coruscant, and Alderaan – are completely absent, along with several planets from The Clone Wars and Rebels and some planets that have been mentioned casually in dialogue. An easy explanation for this is that this image focuses only on the Outer-Rim and Mid-Rim planets – Kamino is a part of the Rishi Maze Galaxy, and Coruscant and Alderaan are Core Worlds. (In any case, Alderaan’s absence can also be chalked up to the planet being blown to smithereens.)
The map also divulges into interesting information, such as a complete and direct confirmation that Jakku and Tatooine are separate planets (as, perhaps unsurprisingly, there were and still are Mystery Box conspiracy theorists that believe that J. J. Abrams is trying to pull another Star Trek Into Darkness-esque twist on the audience, albeit a much more insipid one) and that there’s a planet named Kira – which, as many of you are familiar with, is Rey’s codename for the film. But the most telling bit of information is yet to come. An image (shown below) used to promote the Legends game Star Wars Galaxies adds more to the intrigue (you might want to open that image in another tab as well).
Many planets featured on the non-canonical map appear on the canonical one, and in similar locations and hyperspace lanes to boot. While some planets might not be in the same geographical location, the “Canon” planets are in the same proximities as the Legends planets. And, if you were to look closely at that image (or perhaps Wookieepedia), you would find that several planets on the Legends map also appear on the Canon map. This certainly has fascinating implications for the Canon Expanded Universe in relations to the Legends Expanded Universe. It certainly confirms that Lucasfilm wasn’t going to liquidate a number of planets that were already made for them in works that they licensed out.
With that in mind, might certain other characters be met with the same fate of re-canonization? That’s less likely, but the possibility still exists. Reintroducing individual species – and introducing new characters for said species – would almost certainly be an easier endeavor for the company, though. UPDATE!
Matt Martin from LFL and LFL contributor Tim Veekhoved shared on Twitter that this is just a parody of the Italian transit map and we shouldn’t read too much into it. 🙂
@MakingStarWars @ballsinplay It’s not a planetary map, it’s a parody of the Italian public transit map… so don’t read too much into it.

@starwars7news Map just looks confusing :p And I don’t believe it contains any new planet (except for Jakku)

Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen. When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. He served as a frequent commentator on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast.
A system called…. Kira?
Yes… A Kira, you might say. Of the Kuro-Sawa System.
Kira’s not a system, she’s a girl. A junk collecter, scavenger, secret Jedi…You’d like her.
Nailed it
Well what do we have here?
theres allready a thread in the cantina too, created by me on wednesday for disscusion! 😛
http://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/planet-map-for-star-wars-day.2566/
And now you’ve got a credit in the article. 🙂
woohoo 😀
I do not enjoy saying Mrlsst.
Looks like Milan subway map!
Now that you mention it, it *does*. But it’s not an identical match.
These locations matching up with the Star Wars Galaxy map do suggest that there’s more to it than a simple gag, though.
Yes, you’re right! Having lived there for a year of my life… it was the first thing that came to my mind 🙂 even for colours choice
Haha, so yea – cool to get a mention!
I’m currently living in Milan and this IS the Milan subway map just “dressed up” for Star Wars Milano tomorrow!
Will go and check it out and let you guys know if there’s anything interesting worth reporting! I’ll probably post it on r/starwarsleaks if there’s something substantial!
So, confirmation that Jakku is not Tatooine.
I would say is big clue that it’s not Jakku. I have to accept… But….
What the hell is doing the same crashed star destroyer in Tatooine in the Battlefront trailer? That’s more than a conspiracy though.
There are many Star Destroyers. Many which also crash on planets. This can happen on any planet.
Is it easier to say “why are there sand crawlers, moisture vaporators, jawas, and boba fett on Jakku” or is it easier to say “why is there a crashing Star Destroyer on Tatooine where we see sand crawlers, moisture vaporators, jawas and boba fett”?
Considering the scale, that’s like asking why two English ships ended up on different continents…
Not if there was a large scale assault in the outer rim territories. It would make sense to see lots of crashed ships if there were battles over numerous planets.
But again, you don’t live in the Star Wars universe: directors will give you two hours of fantastic entertainment on it. So, why they would waste this precious time by repeating a desert planet with a crashed Star Destroyer (adding the fact that it’s crashed and buried in sand in the same position).
? wtf we already knew that.
No, we don’t.
I’m not seeing Sullust… am i crazy?
It’s not on here, but if it were, it would have to be near Endor.
That’s interesting as it seems to be gaining some notoriety in Battlefront and other rumors
If it is not in the Jedi Archive it does not exist!
Sullust is Hoth…because, you know, they both have snow.
(For the Tatooine is Jakku crowd)
This is a stupid comment
That’s the point.
Thank the Gods! I no longer have to hear from the morons who were CERTAIN Jakku was Tatooine. Eat your crow below (you know who you are, even if we don’t since you used ‘Anonymous’)
In my case I’ve never hide.
Nonetheless, far from “crazy non-sensical theories” you should recognize it’s curious to have that Star Destroyer crashing in Tatooine in Battlefront trailer, in the same position than the one in the teaser.
Also, the picture used to promote the battle of jakku shows Anakin and Luke lightsabers crossed. Why? Are Luke and Vader fighting there? Don’t think so. They used this sabers because both where built in Tatooine.
Same for the photo promoting the force awakens panel, showing Tatooine.
But yeah, if this facebook photo from Italy confirms it all for you, ok.
For me the debate is still opened.
its a fracking pre-rendered trailer for the love of god!!! Nothing in it is going to happen in the game.
I insist as nobody answers to that:
The picture used to promote the battle of jakku shows Anakin and Luke lightsabers crossed. Why? Are Luke and Vader fighting there? Don’t think so. They used this sabers because both where built in Tatooine.
And talking about the star destroyer: for those who say “it could be another star destroyer in another planet”: come on, this is a freakin fiction universe, you don’t start to repeat elements all around and say “aaah yes it’s a big universe it’s anywhere else with same sh*t happening”
You are definitely just trolling at this point. It’s a video games. And a canon be damned video game at that.
Not trolling at all. Here are 10 reasons why I think Jakku is Tatooine http://imgur.com/gallery/HNBeYy3/new?forcedesktop=1
Develop a negative answer for each one of them and you will convince me.
Unless I missed it, don’t see Dantooine.
There is no longer an EU.
That term is simply gone.
From now on there is only Star Wars.
If you wanted to call it the unified universe I guess you can use that.
The EU was exactly that expanded but ultimately not canon. The intention is that from now on all is canon.
How long that lasts is another matter.
I know the term EU is obsolete, but I find it useful in terms of discussing the changes between the old canon and the new canon.
There are so many planets from Legends universe. May this tell something?
Unless I missed it, don’t see Kashyyyk?
Lol, so Abrams has invented a clone of Tatooine with Jakku…
I should clarify that, looking more closely, this is only a partial map of the Outer-Rim/Mid-Rim. The title has been updated accordingly.
Nelvaan?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d8/Nelvana_logo.svg/1045px-Nelvana_logo.svg.png
So that galaxy far far away is infact one giant new york subway? …
Alderaan is there. Center, right next to Kuat.
Didn’t see Yavin, Yavin IV, Dantooine!!!
Yavin = Javin, I think. Remember: Italy
Lothal?
So Kashyyyk is now a Core World? Or are we to assume that Yoda’s visit there in ROTS was just a Force vision? Is Chewbacca even canon anymore? (Bit of a troll post, but I do take issue with quite a few planets’ absence.)
I live in Italy and I can assure that new canon here simply didnt came out yet. they haven’t published a single canon novel, and will start having canon marvel comics next week, but obly hardcore fans like me know and consider the differenc between canon and legends.
Where the hell is Earth?
Idk why but this made me lol hard at work.
Just remember, Bigfoot is actually Chewbacca wandering in the Pacific Northwest after Han and Chewie crash landed there… and Han changed his name to Indiana Jones. Don’t laugh, he eventually watched some funny shape-headed aliens finally escape from Earth. It shall all be tied together. Just you watch.
So someone help me, looking for that little planet that produces scoundrels, I think it’s Correll or Correllia? Not in the outer rim maybe?
Is this for sure canon?
It’s not completely clear at this time, but Jakku’s inclusion definitely helps the case for this argument.
Well, Alderaan was destroyed. No Sullust? Dantooine far too remote? I always pictured Dantooine in the same neighborhood as Tatooine.
I thought this was a Bart transit map at first 😀

Why are some of the planets bolded in white?
Terminal and Connecting Hubs of the Metro!
The thing that struck me the most was that instead of naming the Hubs after the more popular planets, they opted to not. But they placed Jakku in a position of Prominence so that’s something, I suppose!
Also the Milan Expo is kicking off this week so there’s a lot of tourism in the city: I think that’s part of the reason I’ve seen so much promotion on facebook.
So strange seeing such a minor and rarely seen planet such as Lamaredd on there.
It was a joke!!! It’s a parody of the Italian subway system map.
when jj said its not “Tatooine” its “jakku” – are we sure he was 100% referencing the sand planet in the trailer?
did he say “the sand planet is not tatoonine” or did he say “the planet in the teaser isnt tatooine” What if he was referring to the the planet with Kylo Ren – the one with the trees and snow – its not Tatooine its “jakku”. i cant find the audio quote he said.
It’s hilarious to read this long break down analysis and speculation only to get to the bottom and read the brief revelation that it was actually a parody. Love it! That’s Star Wars fans for you!
This is the makings of a great Simpsons gag.
I just checked the milan underground map. It’s 100% the same. This is a map to remind that on Star wars Day they’re doing wuite a parade and a few other things in milan. Nothing more
My exact thought when first seeing this map: “So the mid and outer rim of the GFFA is basically the map to the the Washington DC metro subway lines?…weird”.
Boys i’m Italian (from the eternal city Rome…) this is alf parody with some real names of the news planets
Would have been a good April Fools joke!
No Tython or Lehon 🙁
Even if the map is a parody, the names on it are canon:
