Star Wars 7 News Talks With PodRants!
Recently, the team over at PodRants asked us to have a chat with them on one of their podcasts – which was graciously accepted by yours truly, Pomojema. Join me as I shoot the breeze with them about entire Star Wars saga, and we chat a bit about news and rumors regarding the future of franchise!
I should note that the people hosting the show – Sharky Bushbaby and Stephanie Leport – prefer to post the long chats we’ve had into separate pieces, so this post will be updated as the week goes on. We talk about a few potential spoilers for The Force Awakens intermittently, albeit vaguely – so spoilerphobes, tread carefully. I’m more profane in these podcast episodes than I usually am in my posts, so keep that in mind regarding where you’re listening to this.
Part One: We talk about the humble beginnings of A New Hope, where Boba Fett worked as a character (and where he didn’t), our first experiences with Star Wars, we talk about if The Empire Strikes Back is the best sequel ever (and whether or not it had an actual ending), my Jabba The Hutt impersonation, how Return Of The Jedi had a creepy opening and fuzzy teddy bears, discussing “there is another” speculation from way back when (from my dad, who talked about it way back when), Luke and Leia’s uncomfortable kisses, and the increasingly-complex final battles in the movies. No spoilers in this podcast.
Part Two: We talk about Nien Nunb’s odd physical appearance (and the rumor that he’s in The Force Awakens as a cameo), The Phantom Menace‘s podracing, Darth Maul and the duel of the fates, the portrayal of the future Dark Lord of the Sith, and Gungans, little anecdotes on the Tarkin book and the Darth Vader comic, the split narrative of Attack Of The Clones, CGI Yoda’s awesome fight scene, who Sifo-Dyas is, Count Dooku’s presence, the Jedi action sequence and the dawn of the Clone Wars, Hayden Christensen’s performance in his two movies, Revenge Of The Sith being the best of show, the infamous pirated translation called “The Backstroke Of The West”, the awesome opening sequence, Order 66, the tragic end to Padmé, and, erm… “Jedi foreplay”. Aside from the rumor at the beginning that I mentioned involving a certain Sullustian, there aren’t any real spoilers.
Part Three: This last part is mostly with me and partially without. In the part without me (which was recorded shortly before I showed up), Sharky and Stephanie talk about the trailers for DC’s new television shows Supergirl, Legends Of Tomorrow, and Titans, along with the dueling releases of Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2. Later, we talk about the truly, truly, truly outrageous response to the trailer for the loose adaptation of Jem And The Holograms (which I know surprisingly a lot about in spite of not actually watching the show), we chat about whether or not Captain America: Civil War has too many characters, a discussion of the new Spider-Man that will be appearing in that movie, the rumors about the troubled production of Fantastic Four and Josh Trank’s subsequent departure from his Star Wars Anthology. In terms of Star Wars news, we talk about Daniel Craig’s supposed Stormtrooper cameo, a possible Marvel/Star Wars television channel or digital platform, and Boba Fett’s return and Rey’s combat skills. Fun times all around!
Part Four: No Stephanie or me this time – just Sharky. While there’s no news in this episode, he’s gathered a little assortment of Star Wars music that he really likes to cap off the Star Wars-themed podcasts. Definitely something worth checking out for fans of John Williams.

you said Bow-BA rather than BOB A Fett – and it’s a major problem in the last 5 years or so with pronunciation in the Star Wars Universe in general.. And it’s proliferated by these younger fans such as yourself. Other words of note are trandoshan /tran-dough-shan being the generally accepted pronunciation from the 80’s up until the last few years as opposed to tran-dooughshen used over the last few years. And man you have a skewed understanding of the ‘end’ of ESB… Lucas purposely wanted a cliff hangar type ending like he used to watch in those Flash Gordon serials. Regardless of whether you agree with Joss Whedon or not is neither here nor there… And Ewok was never used or said in the movie, the point being used to show how adept Lucas was at marketing (but you shoulda known that) you young folks these days
In boba fetts first appearance in the cartoon short from the holiday special, he literally introduces himself as bow-ba fett. I’ve never heard anyone pronounce is “bob-a fett.” And the differences between the pronunciations of transdoshan are fairly nitpicky.
I see your point on empire having the cliff hanger ending though, it certainly does have a Flash Gordon type serial feel to it…
Han Solo literally says “Bow-ba fett? Where?!” in Return of the Jedi. Everyone at Lucasfilm also pronounce it as Bow-ba fett. It’s pronounced Bow-ba fett in Attack of the Clones as well.
So does Lama Su in ATOC. How anyone can think his name is pronounced “Bob-a” just blows my mind.

You talk a lot of shit for a guy who seems to have never seen Star Wars.
The names are supposed to be pronounced differently. Lucas didn’t care; he attributed the different pronunciations to different accents. The actors joked about it during interviews. It is sort of like Han being pronounced “Hawn” or “Haun” by everyone and “Han” (like “hand” without the “d”) by Lando.
Um, Han Sol pronounces it Bow-ba Fett in Return of the Jedi. I’m a 40 yr old fan and I’ve literally never heard anyone pronounce it BOB-a Fett.

Am i the only one getting tired of easy bashing on Return of the Jedi.. Every one can have their opinions and i can understand the prequel hate (i don’t personally HATE them..) but it’s a bit farfetched to say the whole movie stink just because Ewoks looks ‘cute’..
Lots of great scenes ( freeing Han from Jabba, Yoda’s final speach, moto-speader chase, great space battle, amazing duel…). What About the new charaters? (Jabba & tugs, The Emperor(!!!), Admiral Ackbar & the rebelion..).
Again, everyone can have their opinions, but this movie deserve better than bashing about freaking Ewoks.. Ep.4 does not sucks because we spend time watching droïds get lost for 15 min on a desert planet or heroes waiting to be crush in the trash compactor. They ALL have flaws.. but still is my favorite TRILOGY!
I enjoyed ROTJ, but I can’t blame the hate. It certainly could’ve been better.
Besides the Ewoks, Han’s rescue made little sense, and they rehashed the Death Star. Also, Leia being revealed as Luke’s brother was underwhelming.

Now those are arguments that i can respect and that deserve a ‘fanboys’ debate.. ( I even agree about the creative decision on bringing a second death star instead of a new weapon design). It’s better than ; ROTJ sux because of the Ewoks….
Uhhhh, Return of the Jedi was the worst of the OT and deserves no OT fan praise. Here’s why:
1. “From a certain point of view.” Just say you LIED, Obi Wan. Jeez.
2. Rehash death star. Wow, how exciting.
3. Back to Tatooine even though Luke said “I’m never coming back here again.” more fan butt-kissing.
4. The entire Jabba’s palace scene. It was DUMB, even without the added CG elements.
5. Transforming Leia from a strong-willed fighter into male eye-candy wearing a thong.
6. Ewoks
7. Ewoks defeating the Empire and their million tons of metallic weapons and technology.
8. That catfish-looking copilot puppet who flew with Lando. Didn’t I see him somewhere in the Muppet Show?
9. Hardly any Mon Mothma.
10. Boba Fett’s rocket pack blowing up, bouncing off the wall and into the SArlaac pit. # 1 most anti-climatic death.
A LOT of that is nitpicking or subjective in general. These are not reasons (outside rehashing the Death Star) for attacking the film. The Ewoks were meant to be a primitive underdeveloped race that succeed in helping overthrow the empire. It was partially a play on Vietnam to be precise. Guess who was considered the empire in that one. Whether you agree with the politics or not about the matter is another thing entirely. I think too many people pile on ROTJ for the Ewok thing a bit too much. It is by no means a perfect film (none is) but to continually bash it for really asinine reasons goes too far. Although, I will admit that Boba Fett did go out like a punk, that’s actually better than getting his head cut off. At least he has a chance for survival. Still, that’s not a reason to dis on a movie. Some characters bite it in peculiar ways in lots of film.
Actually, Leia was revealed as Luke’s sister but I must say Leia being Luke’s brother might’ve made for a more interesting story…

boo hoo. Now you know what it’s like to be a prequel fan.
Return of the Jedi is the only movie I ever saw that got a standing ovation right in the middle of it(speeder chase scene) That being said, it has more in common with the Prequels than with Episodes 4 and 5. ROTJ was a joy ride of mind boggling effects, but, as with the prequels, the more times you watch it, the more you begin to be annoyed by the lack of an original story (i.e. Death Star 2), the sub-par writing and the cringe inducing dialogue.To that list I will add the sickeningly cuddly Ewoks. For those reasons,ROTJ is my least favorite OT movie.

Um, Anonymous may want to go back and watch ROTJ again since he was underwhelmed by Leia revealed as Luke’s “sister”…. Not brother as he writes. I think we would have all been pretty shocked and overwhelmed if they had revealed Leia to be Luke’s brother! Yikes… “The Crying Game” meets “Star Wars!”

There should be a krayt dragon inTFA
NO. There should be NO MORE A New Hope references in TFA.
I would much rather see that in the Boba Fett movie. Like, a while after he gets out of the Sarlaac, he has to fight a Krayt Dragon.
OR he has a Krayt Dragon that he rides around on like in the Holiday Special.

I know it wasn’t and I figured you and everyone else would get what I was saying. But maybe not.
I think traditionally the idea is that there was about one year between ESB and ROTJ…this question was raised in the first bit. Three years between ANH and ESB. So the whole trilogy takes place over a four year period. And I never caught the part where Jabba uses Lando’s name. I’m going to have to scope that out. Fun talk. 🙂
It was 3 months between ANH and ESB. Read the novelization of ESB.

Luke was well-known on the base and, although barely twenty-three years old, he was addressed as Commander Skywalker by other Rebel warriors. The title made him feel a bit uncomfortable. Nonetheless, he was already in the position of giving orders to a band of seasoned soldiers. So much had happened to Luke and he had changed a great deal. Luke, himself, found it hard to believe that only three YEARS ago he was a wide-eyed farm boy on his home world of Tatooine.”
Like I said…traditionally…3 years between ANH and TESB.
