Images of the New Star Wars: The Force Awakens TIE Fighter Toy.

07 Crashed elite TIEIt appears as though the NDAs on what was shown at the Star Wars SDCC Hasbro panel have finally been lifted – and with it, a good deal of information about the new TIE fighter toys based on the new model from The Force Awakens. Rebelscum shows a few up-close-and-personal pictures of the new TIE fighters and their pilots, among other things…

So it appears as though this variant on the TIE fighter (circa The Force Awakens) accommodates two individual pilots. It makes sense, considering that the First Order TIE fighter seems to be packing a lot more heat than the Galactic Empire TIE fighters ever did. (Check all all those guns!)

But that’s not all. They also snagged a few good glimpses at the new TIE pilot, along with a set recreating the skirmish seen in the trailer. (From the set shown below, it appears as though the TIE pilot’s armor is standard-issue for these guys, and it’s not Captain Phasma in special armor as some believed.)

I personally find all the recent influx of new information about the lineup of Star Wars toys to be interesting… I wouldn’t be too surprised if D23 is when Disney unveils most of their merchandise set to be released on Force Friday in September.

Be sure to check out Rebelscum’s report of the panel for more images on forthcoming Star Wars toys, including Black Series figures of Rebels characters!

You still need to correct errors in your article, namely about this being a Special Forces TIE, and not representative of all First Order TIEs.

The Rebelscum article is dated back to July 10, so it’s 2 weeks old already.

That said, this is the first confirmation of the twin-seats I’ve seen.

I’ve been wondering how Poe and Finn were both supposed to fit inside

Why couldn’t Finn and Poe sit on one another’s lap? It’s perfectly reasonable given the circumstances. I think it’s ridiculous that they had to design an entirely new craft just to prevent a scene where for example Poe is sitting on Finn’s lap/leg area. Maybe Poe is telling Finn “watch out you dolt!” And Finn is saying “I can’t see!”, and Poe says “I’m the pilot why aren’t I doing the flying”. We live in such a repressed society I swear.

In addition to this, in Rebels, it seems as if there’s a good amount of space around and behind the pilot’s seat considering at least Zeb and Ezra, at the most, have been shown sharing the vessel’s one seat compartment with no problem – One piloting and the other standing off to the side.

They already established on Rebels that at least 3 people can squeeze into an Imperial TIE, though rather uncomfortably (but without anyone having to sit on anyone else’s lap). There is space behind the pilot seat for someone to stand. But I’m not disputing that they may have made the new First Order TIEs two-seaters now simply to accommodate the film’s plot, and give Finn a place to sit while Poe’s flying.

The TIEs seem to have a bit more room in Rebels than they had in the OT.
I was wondering whether Poe and Finn would just squeeze in or something. Even after seeing the TIE shooting backwards in the teaser, it never really occurred to me that there could be two seats. Looking back and realising that there’s a viewport at the rear, it makes sense.
They seem to like back-to-back in Star Wars.

To be honest I think this is a “special ops” Tie fighter…..as the other First Order Ties that are seen in the trailer etc are without the red stripe and advanced weapons. And the pilot has a red stripe as if to be “special”.

That’s what I thought too… I think it was mentioned in the toy report from comicon on this site. I have a feeling the standard ties will have only 1 seat.

Exactly. The two seats are perfect for the plot point *spoiler* when Poe and Finn escape in the “Red Tie” only to crash land on Jakku.

Well, this has potentially confirmed a very important plot detail.

If a second pilot is required to fire the rear facing laser canon, and we all assume that the Fin is in the Tie blasting up the star destroyer hanger in the teaser, then who is in the cockpit with Fin?!

Does Fin escape with Poe perhaps? we know from the behind the scenes thing that Poe gets captured at some point.

    Very interesting.

    • July 26, 2015 at 11:11 am
      Permalink

I think it’s pretty safe to say that is the case… it does explain where Finn got that jacket from.

How Finn ends up in the middle of the desert, and what happens to Poe after the crash are two questions that need answering.

Rumours suggest that Finn assumes Poe doesn’t survive the crash… but then Poe miraculously shows up later on Yavin to save the day.

      • July 26, 2015 at 6:14 pm
        Permalink

It’s most likely that there’s a sequence or two involving Poe that shows up as a b-plot that we don’t know about. I don’t think they’re going to go for a Deus Ex Machina route and have him magically reappear after he is presumed dead for half of the movie.

        • July 27, 2015 at 1:22 am
          Permalink

Really starting to wonder about the length of this movie…

I’m pretty sure the film is going to skip the previously reported “lighhsaber in space” scene, and move right to the part where the First Order turns up. Reason for this is the Comic-con reel showed that the Stormtroopers in the transport preparing to disembark happens in scene 3 of some 235 plus scenes. We don’t even see Maz Kanata’s castle until around scene “v178.”
It makes for a better Star Wars movie opening scene when things are already in motion, just as they have been in every other movie. I think it would take a bit longer for the First Order to show up otherwise… certainly more than 2 shots/scenes… and this way, they can draw more parallels to ANH/TESB with an opening shot of a Star Destroyer in space.

So yeah… even if they skip the lightsaber in space, there’s a whole lot going on in this movie… adding in a whole subplot to show Poe Dameron getting off Jakku after the crash? I don’t know. I feel they might just have him say something about it.

i think that’s a rumour you can safely go with mate. I know there are a lot of tenuous rumours out there but Finn and Poe escaping is pretty much a given.

    • July 26, 2015 at 6:31 pm
      Permalink

Kylo and his troops capture Poe on Jakku and take him back up to their Star Destroyer.

Finn devises a plot to leave the First Order. He needs a pilot so he breaks Poe out.

Finn and Poe steal a special forces TIE, blast shit up, and fly out of there like a bat out of hell.

Something goes wrong, and the TIE crashes back on Jakku.

Poe is rendered unconscious. Finn scrambles out of the TIE flustered, but unscathed. He strips off his armor, takes Poe’s jacket and leaves him for dead.

This confirms something I noticed watching the trailer: the TIE shooting at the troopers is seen from behind, so those guns can shoot in any direction.

    • July 27, 2015 at 4:57 pm
      Permalink

Absolutely. Most of the TIEs we’ve seen in the teasers have been more or less the same old standard-issue TIEs we’ve seen since 1977 (aside from the white solar panels).

This one is something else entirely. I wish they’d have done something different with the solar panels, just to distinguish it a bit more from the regular TIEs, but it looks pretty bad-ass nonetheless.

I think it’s a bid odd that the First Order would go back to a design based on the older TIE/LN starfighter, rather than the improved TIE/IN interecptor. Perhaps the First Order isn’t as wealthy as the Empire?

In the old EU the 181st elite TIE squadron had red stripes painted on their hull, so my guess is it denotes some elite TIE fighter. It is different from the standard one seen in the trailer, this has reinforced support struts.

We need another article of what changes to X-Wings. Instead of orange or red and greys!? Why blue colors now!? Why are they flying over water? Not space? Are there versions of X-Wings?

      • July 28, 2015 at 1:46 am
        Permalink

Why blue? Because in ANH, Red squadron was originally supposed to be Blue squadron, but due to limitations of blue screen technology, they had to change the colour to Red. TFA is just paying tribute to original Ralph McQuarrie/Joe Johnston artwork, hence the new design incorporating split engine intakes.

There’s also an orange and black X-wing which has shown up in set photos and Lego leaks. Apparently the orange/black X-Wing is supposed to be Poe Dameron’s, although it doesn’t look like he’s flying a black ship in any of the cockpit shots in either teaser.
