New Schematic of Star Destroyer from The Force Awakens – Including the Ship’s Name!

Teaser Trailer

We’ve got a new pic from an upcoming Star Wars book, which not only shows schematic drawings of the new First Order star destroyer from multiple angles, but also includes the vessel’s name. Check it out after the jump…

Courtesy of our friend JeffG. from the Cantina, here’s our first look inside the upcoming book release, “Star Wars: Ships of the Galaxy.” It shows what appears to be the First Order star destroyer that we saw in the second teaser:

TFA First Order Star Destroyer - Finalizer

Note that the diagram includes the name of the ship: Finalizer.

So, what do you all think of the name, the design, etc.?

(Thanks to Cantina forum member JeffG. for sharing this with us!)

Yeah, I think so too. I’m just wondering where the bridge tower is on the side elevation view.

its like they took away the vulnerability of that bridge tower though which would make sense since it was such a target during the battle of endor

That’s what I was thinking…awesome design change. I guess they had one too many encounters with kamikaze A-wings to keep the old design in production. I like the name…it seems to be in line with what we have heard about the First Order to this point – that they are finishing what the Empire started. “Finalizer” seems appropriate and still keeps that classic feel like Vader’s “Devastator” and”Executor” before it.

Also those asteroids were destroying the bridges of these ships, being more flat makes a lot more sense! 🙂

Like everything else I’ve seen about TFA, it’s too OT to be 30 years in the future, and not OT enough for the OT fans.

The name “Finalizer” makes me think of the Nazis and their “Final Solution” to the Jewish problem (i.e., the Holocaust).

It agrees well with the subtly Nazi-ish themes that are in evidence elsewhere, particularly as we see the big “rally” of the First Order on the snow planet. Go watch old pre-war recordings of Hitler before endless rows of uniformed people, while huge banners are displayed. Or just look at the picture in the Wikipedia article on the “Nuremberg Rally”, then go back and watch the TFA trailers again:

Abrahams and kasdan are both Jews, I don’t know if that has any relevence, but it does seem like they might using the third reich as a template for the new order. The parade shots with red flags seem to suggest this. Which is fine, The empire has always been nazi-ish but I just hope the parallels are not too glaringly on-the-nose/obvious/distracting.

I’m not exactly sure why in space, as on submarines, why you would need a vulnerable bridge with big frickin’ windows. Most of your object-avoidance work would be done with ship sensors, so glass – or transparent aluminum – would not be needed. If the ship’s builders just really felt the need to be able to gaze out, just in case you needed to swerve to avoid a space deer or something, then you could acheive that with multiple cameras and view screens on the bridge without making a target of opportunity for the enemy.

Cool design, less-than-cool name. I’m not so sure about a lot of the names I’ve heard for the film, but I’m also not complaining. The movie’s going to be awesome regardless 🙂

I really have the feeling that all the complaining about the names are mostly because they are all out of context. When we’ll see the movie I’m sure it will all change.

I tend to agree with you guys about the name “Finalizer”. It sounds a bit more like a software term than the name of a warship. “Liquidator”, “Annihilator”, “Eradicator”, “Ravager”… I’d probably have gone with something like that.

But, it’s a cool looking ship by any name.

I agree it’s not too “scary” or intimidating, but if you’re a splinter group trying to push the emperors old agenda I bet they take a slightly different approach. Almost like they are trying to come off as good guys. Remember this is supposed to be a morally grey movie lol. So really I think the name is perfect in that sense.

This ship is bad ass. Not only did they minimize the weak points that Empire ships have, but they also beefed up on the engines I am sure and the weaponry somewhat. Let’s see how she does in battle. I don’t think this is the last we will see of the Finalizer.

okay, i do really hate the fact that everytime there is any sort of criticism of TFA on this site, you get a repy “so read another site” or “why are you here anyways”. lets be frank, Finalizer is a terrible, terrible name, it really is. it is plainly bad.

just when you thought snoke and phasma were a little not intimidating for two main villains.. i do hope Rian Johnston will come up with something less lame in Ep 8

  • August 28, 2015 at 3:14 am

i think the main difference between the names in TFA and PT + OT was that, Lucas had this gift for coming up with great names, that sounded good but were not derived from the normal words and therefore sounded “otherworldly” and credible, hence: Tarkin, Boba Fett, Anakin, Qui Gon, Dash Rendar, Palpatine, Thrawn. at the same time, i dont get why every JJ name has to have a real word prototype: Snoke (Snake) Phasma (Plasma) Finn (Fin) Rey (Ray) Maz Katana (Katana) Kanjiklub (Kanji game + club) etc., it just makes them sound kinda grptesque and 1950ish

i mean its great Phasma is named after 70’s tv show none cares about, or Poe after JJ’s belove assistant but, hoenstly, none gives a single F*CK. this is not nerd even. its like telling a series of inside jokes that only you and 10 of your friends get to an auditorium of several thousand people, expecting everyone to love it. not gonna happen.
