UPDATE! Two Star Wars: The Force Awakens Figures Revealed for Disney Infinity. Battlefront Concept Art Shown!

disney.interactive

Disney Interactive’s D23 panel has just occurred, revealing the first two figures from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens expansion in Disney Infinity: 3.0 Edition. Plus – get a look at a new piece of concept art from Star Wars Battlefront and some details about the multiplayer.

As many would guess, these first two characters are Finn and Rey. Brief clips were showcased of the two, emphasizing that Finn would utilize a blaster – said to be one of the strongest weapons in the game – and that Rey would use her staff in an agile manner. It is not clear if they are the two characters that will appear as the two that come with the expansion for The Force Awakens, but it is likely that they will come with the initial bundle as opposed to being sold separately. The two figures were shown before the crowds at D23 by the creators, but to make the presentation even better, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley came onstage to look at the figures themselves! The duo were kind enough to give the toys to lucky audience members – Boyega gave the Finn toy away to a boy in a Darth Vader costume, while Ridley gave the Rey toy to a woman in a Leia outfit.

The base Disney Infinity: 3.0 Edition expansion, Star Wars: Twilight Of The Republic, arrives on August 28 in Europe and August 30 in the United States. The second expansion, Star Wars: Rise Against The Empire, arrives on September 29 (and earlier for Playstation 4 users, who can get the first and second expansions on day of release with the Star Wars Saga Bundle). The third expansion, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, arrives on December 18.

UPDATE!

There was also a bit of new information regarding Battlefront – the game will have nine multiplayer modes. Four have been announced so far: Fighter Squadron, a mode focused entirely on aerial battles with iconic starships; Walker Assault, where one side leads a large vehicle to a target while the other side tries to destroy it; Blast, the deathmatch mode of the game pitting ten players against another ten players; and Supremacy, a mode where two sides fight for control over five critical points in large maps (similar to the core gameplay of the original two titles in the series). Concept art for the Battle Of Jakku expansion was also shown – which will be a free download to all players.

Star Wars Battlefront will arrive in stores on November 17 in the United States, November 19 in Australia, and November 20 in Europe. People who pre-order the game will gain access to Battle Of Jakku on December 1, while everyone else will get the free expansion on December 8.

What is Disney Infinity? Sounds like a computer game, but then how are there indivdual figures you can give away physically. I’m not a gamer, so I’m confused. Could anyone clarify?

The short of it is that you buy a base video game with a lot of content to it, and then you buy physical copies of the characters you want to play as – along with additional expansions of the game – to take the experience further.

As you can imagine, this can get expensive – the costs exceed those of standard video game downloadable content that you also would have to pay for. Companies are making a killing off of this model, which is why it’s becoming increasingly popular. Even Nintendo and LEGO are getting into it.

at least lego gives something you can use out of the game… i mean you essentially get bricks you can use for else stuff

What is it? A massive con..that’s what !

How is it a con? They are selling non pose-able figures as non pose-able figures. They aren’t hiding anything from consumers with them. They are represented and sold exactly as what they actually are. So what exactly is a con about them?

Because when I was a kid, if you wanted a game you bought it and that was the end of it. Now it’s a never ending stream of pay as you play extras turning these games into a cash cow for the companies that make them.

Maybe you are not a parent of kids who want new games & figures constantly?

Yes, it can get expensive, but that doesn’t make it a “con”. You know what you are getting yourself into when you buy the starter pack.

I don’t think most parents are aware that it’ll cost upward of $200 for the whole set by the time you’re done. Purposely designed to make you have to buy all the extras if you want to experience the whole thing.

I think they are pretty outrageous personally.

If they aren’t aware of it that’s their own ignorance as the information is out there plain as day. If their kids are spoiled to the point where the parents feel obligated to spend the money on every single thing that comes out for it then they need to look at there parenting skills rather than blame Disney. I DO in fact have a child and a nephew, but they’re not spoiled little sh*ts so it hasn’t been an issue around here.

Entirely what companies are all about – finding new ways to get more of your wallet. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

I don’t get it. Will Finn primarily have the blaster during the film? Will he use Luke’s lightsaber only in the end?We don’t even have a synopsis! I really don’t like whining and I certainly don’t want the whole plot revealed before December 18 but there should be at least an explain action regarding what exactly changed in the 30 years since ROTJ

They wanted to keep the film a mystery and if you don’t hunt around for spoilers, it is. I can’t blame them for that. I too want more stuff to be revealed but I get it.

A synopsis? Now? Lol at demanding a synopsis. Why not just have the whole thing revealed before you see it. All the questions you pose are why you WATCH the movie.

That would be a huge bridge. I think the Aftermath trilogy is going to help bridge the gap along with other books.

So.. is Rey’s staff going to be like Grievous’ guards with the lightning tips that can block a lightsabre blade..? I really seriously hope so. The sound design for them was exceptional, as always, by Ben Burtt, I would LOVE to see (and hear) Rey using that as her main weapon, at least in this film. One of the better things to come from the prequel trilogy (yeah shoot me for bringing it up! :p).

Oh look at that concept art! Tatooine with some spaceships crashed! Oh wait, wasn’t the Battlefront Tatooine stage that had a star destroyer crashed as well?

What a great expansion the battle of Jakku! What an original planet, can’t wait to know more about Jakku, specially that part when we discover it’s indeed Tatooine.

No one will be seated during the climactic, pivotal, and dramatically earned “Jakku’s real name is Khan!” scene.

Too bad though that other than being used with Disney Infinity these action figures are useless. Wouldn’t a combination of these figures and the ones that we’ve seen a couple of days ago have been nicer?

“the game will have nine multiplayer modes. Four have been announced so far: Fighter…”
    .
None of which are playable either SP or local splitscreen MP. Awesome. Waited a decade for a new BF, and ultimately, as I don’t enjoy playing online with 12 year-old griefers and shut-in asshats screaming into their headsets, there’s no point in buying it. Thanks, EA.

I’m pretty sure that they’ve said that there will be AI and local multiplayer.

Actually, what DICE and EA said last week is that the SP ‘missions’ will be playable splitscreen, but NONE (they were very clear on this) of the MP levels or modes will be. None. First the Walkers aren’t drivable, then the YWs aren’t flyable, then vehicles are a pick-up, now this. I was an early player of both previous BFs (had a friend on the testing team when we lived in San Rafael who supplied mty fix 🙂 ) I never would have thought I’d be seriously contemplating not getting a new BF.
