Ride Across Jakku in a Speeder! Updated with YouTube Version.

Jakku

Posted today on Star Wars’ Facebook page is an video ride across Jakku that includes a feature that will let you look around 360 degrees as you zip through the wreckage of the battle 30 years ago.

Screenshot_1

Although the video is only about one minute long, you can “grab and drag” the camera view a full 360 degrees around you as your speeder runs along a predetermined course as you look at all sorts of “scenery” while zipping along. There’s a a downed Star Destroyer, Tie Fighter, and (if you look quickly), you can  even see BB-8 peeking out from some other wreckage…and you can see it HERE, enjoy!

UPDATE!

Many readers are complaining that they can’t play the video, so here’s a youtube version, that is not 360, but will do:

The other Star Destroyers we have seen are laying flat which indicates to me that they were probably critically damaged near or in the atmosphere and the gravity of the planet pulled them to the surface. The Inflictor on the other hand was intentionally crashed into the surface, so I tend to think that it is the one we see at the beginning of teaser #2 that is knifed into the surface of the planet. I also think that with all the connections the author made in the book with the OT, that it is more likely to be the one we have already seen on screen in TFA.

      NO!

    • September 24, 2015 at 4:50 am
      Permalink

Is this a serious question? I really can’t tell anymore when people are questioning this subject.
I think they are two separate planets with similar environments. Also why don’t people compare Tatooine with Geonosis? They’re similar also. They both have sand and rocky terrain.

      • September 24, 2015 at 5:34 am
        Permalink

I can totally understand why one would think Jakku is Tatooine (even though I don’t), but Geonosis? Way too different to even bring into this.

        • September 24, 2015 at 3:57 pm
          Permalink

I mean,I don’t understand why would they copied everything from Tatooine to put on Jakku (all those gangs, exactly the same type of sand planet, pirates, and much more) I mean,if we never see Tatooine in this trilogy again,I would make that planet Tatooine, but if we see Tatooine again,I wouldn’t mind Jakku in new trilogy. Of course,I will like the movie, but they copied exactly the same elements from Tatooine on Jakku. And I am not type of guy who thinky Boyega is Lando’s son only because he is black,or Kylo is a sith only because he has a red lightsaber, but I really think Jakku is just a small part of Tatooine, because J.J. is a well known for trolling a fans

Agree, but they released a whole planet look from distance, and it is a sand planet

    • September 24, 2015 at 9:54 am
      Permalink

No, it’s a different planet. But my guess is that it should have been Tatooine and they just changed the name as shootings were now taking place in Abu Dhabi instead of Tunisia. Changing the planet explains the ‘slightly’ different terrain and architecture (yes, … there would be people who would complain 😉 ).

      • September 26, 2015 at 1:35 am
        Permalink

So what if the terrain is different a bit? Tatooine looks different in parts, terrain varries, it’s a big planet.

this is just a silly trolling comment, and of course we want great characterizations and story, and how you could be complaining about that in a minute long video giving us a cool lil ride…sigh…..but man if any universe is to also be enjoyed for visuals and “cool stuff” and escapism – its star wars. A great deal of the appeal is the visuals, the planets, the worlds, the things that make you WONDER and stretch your own imagination.

You’re an idiot kylo ren. That is the most valid and well deserved criticism of this production, that we don’t give a SH*T about the effects anymore, we know they will look nice. We’ve heard JACK about the actual film and if you blindly support this Disney crock you’re a troll.

You COMPLETELY miss my point about effects AND you resort to name calling and insulting. I support Star Wars and I’m confident in Kasdan, the cast, and the hundreds of people involved in the production. If the movie stinks, I’ll admit it. I don’t think it will. I’m optimistic about it, though. To call me an idiot and a troll and in the SAME paragraph point out that I support the movie is totally irrational. Your hostile attitude and conflicting viewpoints illuminate that it is in fact you who are the troll. And not a very good one. See ya.

no, actually, I’m trying to expose how ridiculously disney and lucasfilm treat the fans in 2015.. we’ve been stacked with empty press release type of statements from both creative team and the main actors, repeated practical effects BS and all these eye candies in order to sell us merchadise from the movie we haven’t seen yet! youre buying action figures of the characters you dont even know you will like! lego sets from the scenes in the movie we havent seen a glimpse of yet! its as though they are thinking, they could shovel anything into sw fanbase and we would take it all in and go “december cant come fast enough” a bazzilionth time. i feel that i am a part of an increasingly growing group of fans who are tired of looking at pretty behind the scenes footage or that sort of digital collage gimmick things instead of real materials that should promote the movie like the main story outline, details about charaters, background of the political situation in the TFA era or even that godforsaken trailer. it all starts to look really hollow if you ask me, the whole pretty packaging for something that might turn out rather dull.
