Star Wars: The Force Awakens Special Edition Reald 3D Glasses Revealed!

3D GlassesOur friends from RealD.com sent us a high-res image with a first look at the special edition, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, RealD 3D glasses. You can choose from BB-8, First Order Stormtrooper, Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren models, and keep them as an unforgettable memory of your experience in the cinema!

I am surprised that we don’t have more glasses with the good guys. As we know Rey wears a pair of glasses in the movie, that she scavenged from a Stormtrooper. This would have been a cool nod to the character. Nevertheless these are some really cool looking glasses.

Now tell us which glasses are your favorite?

For the love of jeebus, please don’t see this movie in 3D. It’s a conversion and even if it wasn’t, 3D sucks.

All IMAX screenings of TFA will be in post-converted 3D :'( No 2D options.

I like how they are encouraging multiple views with the marketing…Hey, we’re renting out every IMAX screen so you’ll want to be part of that…and also for Real3D viewing you get these cool glasses…and you have to see it in 2D cause that’s most like your original Star Wars experience and will really let you get into nostagia mode!

I like these glasses though. If I take the whole family I can get all four. I don’t think my 7 month old will mind…my 6 year won’t let me have his though. 🙂

why are you only watching it once?

If I watch it twice, the 2nd time is not going to be 3D either 😉 unless there is something that really just begs to be seen in 3D, most of the movies I’ve seen, it’s just not worth it. 3D is sometimes a distraction for me.

I’ll watch this film any way I can opening weekend. Then I’ll be sure to try out any format I haven’t seen yet. Then I’ll focus my repeat viewings on my favorite format.

Just a tip for any of you guys planning on seeing it in 3D… don’t do Real D 3D unless if you are going to see the film @ an AMC Prime theater or at least a Real D show with Atmos.

Or @ IMAX laser, or at least a “real” IMAX theater.

The reason being that standard theaters have very low lamp light, which is horrible for 3D. Most theaters are @ 8 lumens, IMAX standard is 12, IMAX laser is something like 20 lumens, AMC prime 22 lumens. ‘mo lumens ‘mo better 🙂

“real” IMAX….. are there even many of those?! lol. I had to travel to Sacramento to see Interstellar. It is one of the few REAL Imax screens in CA with a 70mm film projector. I think there are 4 in California?

I have a rule that i won’t see a movie in 3D unless it was filmed in 3D. I might break that rule for Star Wars, only because i plan on seeing it multiple times. we have a new MPX screen here with Atmos… but i don’t think Star Wars will be in Atmos?

I don’t know about y’all but I’m willing to drive at least an hour or two to see Star Wars at a premium theater 🙂
How long of a drive is LA for you? I believe there is an IMAX laser there 🙂

I’m not sure if Into Darkness was filmed in 3D or not… but if not it’s post conversion was excellent. I recall it looked exceptional on the IMAX here, and I own it on bluray 3D… one my favorites 🙂

There are good post conversions & bad post conversions. The reason being there a different methods of doing conversions to 3D. I own Titanic 3D which was a post converted film, it looks great!

Eh… too far…. We got a new theater here with the Widest screen in the valley. MPX with Dolby Atmos. I wish i could see a laser Imax screening….

Into Darkness was post-converted. I ALMOST broke my rule for that one because i heard that it was the best post converted 3D film upon its release.

I have been digging around, and i still can’t see if it will be in Dolby Atmos. the IMDB says yes… but no where else.

It will be in dolby Atmos… I got confirmation from a guy who mixes films for a living (he did “Fury”)… when I asked if Star Wars might have an Atmos mix he responded and said “it will have an atmos mix :)”

Well then Dolby should update their ATMOS list!!! lol. glad to here the IMDB info was legit. I know exactly where i will view it then… For the first time, anyways 😉

At the very least, We’ll know the Falcon chase scenes will probably look cool. I don’t see how they can screw that up.

Trooper/Phasma ones look like the lens shapes are the best. BB-8 looks awesome, but the lenses seem a bit small…..

only a few scenes shot in IMAX and this is not an ATMOS encoded movie, Which i think is such a poor decision not to. This would have been THE reference movie for ATMOS. What a shame.
