UPDATE! Star Wars Rebels – NYCC 2015 Panel. New Trailer Unveiled!
The new trailer for Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels is here!
UPDATE!
Based on the work of ComicBook.com and Star Wars Underworld, we now know some specifics about the NYCC panel that aren’t alluded to in the trailer.
- Pablo Hidalgo, representative of the Lucasfilm Story Group, has reiterated that Season 2 will be 22 episodes long – meaning that that number was most likely not inclusive of “The Seige Of Lothal”. He mentioned that there will be substantially more antagonists in Season 2 than Season 1. Dave Filoni, Taylor Gray, Ashley Eckstein also walked onstage, and Sarah Michelle Gellar received a huge standing ovation when she arrived.
- With Gellar’s arrival, the time to discuss Inquisitors was imminent. Filoni noted that all Inquisitors have the same uniforms and lightsabers as part of their pact with the Empire – and with the Grand Inquisitor from the previous season dead, the others are looking to claim the title by impressing Darth Vader himself. The Inquisitors do not particularly trust one another.
- Gellar described her character, the Seventh Sister, as being one that enjoys playing mind games with her victims before she eliminates them completely. A clip shown at the event (shown below) further established this. In addition, Filoni implied that the Seventh Sister isn’t Barriss Offee after all, but explaining what happened to Barriss on the show would be something he’d like to do if they could make it work.
- Meanwhile, Ahsoka is described as being a Jedi no more, but still a heroic figure all the same. She’s aware of where the Order failed, and how its failure led to a resurgence in the Dark Side. Eckstein noted that she changed her performance to suit Ahsoka’s more world-weary outlook – in addition to making sure she sounds older than she did on The Clone Wars. Ahsoka is technically not a part of the Ghost‘s crew.
- Rex’s mere appearance proves to be a subject that divides Kanan and Ezra. Kanan distrusts Rex simply due to his status as a Clone – and the unpleasant memories of Order 66 that come with that – while Ezra believes in Rex. Rex is said to know some truth about the Empire and the fall of the Republic, but that he does not know of Darth Vader’s identity.
- The continuing saga regarding Ezra’s parents are a focal point of Season 2. Ezra also sees Kanan as his go-to teacher.
- Chopper is described as being a jerk through the whole series, but he does something that is unambiguously good in Season 2.
- Characters from the films are included on a case-by-case basis – as long as their inclusion in the story is beneficial, they can be added.
- A clip shows Ezra fighting three Stormtroopers with a lightsaber. When he sees two other figures approaching, Ezra stuns them, only to realize that it was just Rex and Kanan. Hilarity ensues.
- A clip shows a fight scene between Zeb, Ezra, and Kanan, and the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother. The Inquisitors have an upper hand… and then Ahsoka arrives.
- The cast members don’t know about the biggest plot twists in Season 2 just yet.
Outside of Rebels, Filoni mentioned that there are limitless possibilities for future Star Wars cartoons in any era. For those of you who missed it, there’s also a new clip of “The Lost Commanders” out right now:
Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen. When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. He served as a frequent commentator on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast.
I like this show, but didn’t think it was chills-worthy. Ahsoka facing down the “Seventh Sister” at the end though…
Also really cool to see the interdictor cruiser make it into the canon. Wonder if they’ll keep the name or call it something else? Definitely looks and operates the same as in the EU though…
They call it Immobilizer, I think.. It has already shown up in some canon books, able to pull ships from hyperspace.
Really? Which ones? I’ve read most of the new ones, though perhaps I missed it somehow?
They were in Heir to the Jedi. And there were three different types in Tarkin (CC-2200, CC-7700 and the Immobilizer-418, all from the EU).
Interesting – I haven’t read Heir to the Jedi, and must have missed it in Tarkin. I recognize the CC-2200 and CC-7700 ship classes (I think?) from the old computer game Rebellion, though I think they were rebel ships in that game.
Were any of them referred to as interdictor cruisers, or was their ship class not named? At any rate, thanks for the heads up 🙂
The story group needs to go back and play Tie Fighter and X-Wing for PC. The Interdictor was there along with other cool ships like the Imperial Gunboat and the Tie Defender.
Yeah. In the new canon, it’s called the Immobilizer 418, and it’s way smaller.
I am so excited for season 2 of SW Rebels. I can’t wait for Ahsoka to take those Inquisitors to SCHOOL!!!
Holy cow that looks like fun! Now I know why they haven’t released the full TFA trailer yet. No way they would do that before the premier of Rebels Season 2. They will wait a week or so after the first Rebels Episode then drop the TFA trailer. Star Wars will own October.
Damn… Hard to hate on that…C’mon!
Interdictor, new bounty hunter (with Black Sun logo on her helmet), Inquisitors hunting Force Sensitive babies, B-Wing development at Shantipole… so much classic SW win! Heavy influences from WEG! The Mando pilots also have a Prototype Fett style to them.
Loving this show.
umm Clan REN, House Visla…. EXCUSE ME!!?!?!?!!? 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
It’s Wren (as in Sabine Wren), not Ren (as in Knights if Ren). But heck yeah!
oh….BUT STILL!! WHITE LIGHT SABERS!!!
I like the white lightsabers, too! It reminds me of the Star Wars Legacy comic series. There were Sith and Jedi, but also “neutral” force users that served the government and they all used white lightsabers. It gives Ahsoka a good sense that she is neither Jedi nor Sith.
White light being a combination of all colours, a representation of balance?
Funny thing is that Lucas himself said that only red, purple, blue, and green lighsabers exist. I hope this means we’ll get more colors in the films.
Interdictors are canon once again! So that pretty much mean the whole Thrawn Trilogy is canon too….right?…right?…….hello?…
If only. Sadly, the ship in the trailer isn’t even the real Interdictor (although they may call it that in this series). It looks way more like the Immobilizer 418.
Did she say Vizsla? As in Pre Vizsla?
Yep.
“Their greatest strength will be each other.”
Sound familiar? It ‘s just another way of saying “diversity is a strength.”
Disney’s transformed the mighty Star Wars into nothing but low-rent racial propaganda.
God knows I hate “diversity” as much as a native american in the 16th century. But I don’t think that’s what they went for when they came up with it.
I guess you didn’t catch it, but the entire point of Star Wars is that the hierarchy of the evil empire is made up of one ethnic group holding all the power and the Rebellion is made up of a diverse set of people groups from a multitude of backgrounds trying to bring equality and freedom to the galaxy.
Did you know that the internet was invented by a multi-national group of scientists spread across the northern hemisphere? That sounds like something you wouldn’t be happy about, so why don’t you give up the internet and fade into what ever inbred backwater corner of close minded filth that you came from?
the Rebellion is made up of a diverse set of people groups from a multitude of backgrounds trying to bring equality and freedom to the galaxy.
It’s starting to smell like Karl Marx up in here.
Karl Marx spoke out about issues of class warfare, not ethnic differences.
Get on my level, xenophobe.
Get on our level, anti-white.
I prefer facts and citations to talking points and fear mongering. So, I’m afraid I can’t stoop to your level.
If you preferred facts, you’d not be arguing with me
You have, so far, presented zero. I am undaunted.
I have presented you with numerous opportunities to look up the facts yourself like a big boy. I was hoping your silly comments were the result of a lack of information rather than stubborn foolishness.
You have presented no actual facts and you have pretended that buzz words from your political party are facts. You have, so far, presented nothing.
What facts are you looking for? The fact that diversity hurts nations and ethnic groups? Or the fact that you refuse to belive in it?
I am, precisely, looking for the fact that diversity hurts nations and ethnic groups.
And the Ferguson riots in the US wasn’t enough for you to get the picture? This gives a small hint of whats going on in Europe.

Yet all the species have their own homeworlds.
You’re talking about yesterdays diversity. Todays diversity is on an entirely different level. Global diversity is good. Diversity inside a nation is destructive.
Search youtube for “Invasion Europe”, and you’ll see what he means. We’re basically doomed over here.
Star Wars is an allegory about how unity across political/ethnic/religious lines brings solutions, not an allegory about how we should reject people who are fleeing war in northern Africa and the Middle East because they have a different skin tone and religion than us.
Not all species in Star Wars have their own homeworlds. Naboo and Gungan. Mon Calamari and Quarren. Kaminoans and Clones. Tusken Raiders and Jawas. Yuzzum and Ewoks. These are all unique people groups who share the same homeworld. They have conflict but they find a way to coexist. Human beings all share the same species and same world. Your argument is flawed on a multitude of levels.
Oh god. You’re telling me you swallowed the whole “refugee” story. Wake up man. They’re not refugees. They’re 90% violent men of fighting age. It’s an invasion.
One thing I don’t like about United States politics and news media is how much they focus on Mexican immigrants and the “danger” they pose to the country. I was embarrassed and thought this xenophobia was limited to my nation.
I was amazed in 2013 when I visited Europe and the most common thing the news talked about was how they were peeing in their pants over how Moroccan and Turk immigrants scared them. Either this is an unsuccessful invasion that has been defeated for years or they are just scared of people who aren’t white, want to be their neighbor, and might not expect Christmas as a holiday.
Wow. I thought european politicians were blind, but you’re showing a whole new level of ignorance.
If not even video evidence will convince you then I don’t know what will.
Europe is being flooded with muslims and other third world immigrants. Our nations are crashing economically and culturally. And you criticise europeans for being “xenophobes”?
You really haven’t learned anything from history have you.
I’ve learned from history that the “communist” migration from Cuba to Miami didn’t cause economic or cultural collapse.
Have you noticed that nothing you’ve said has addressed the actual parallels in Star Wars that I’ve brought up? You seem to only be able to regurgitate talking points from a political party.
Besides, shouldn’t a learnéd European like yourself be in bed? Don’t you have work in a few hours? Or are you just killing time on the internet before your mom tells you that breakfast is ready?
Seeing as you’re obviously mentally handicapped in some ways, I see little reason to debate details concerning which species lives on what planet alongside eachother in the Star Wars universe.
It would still not amount to anything.
What matters is this. You are an anti-white. You think the destruction of european culture and ethnicity is a good thing. Not even when your own society comes crashing down will you understand.
Wow, we have a serious, serious racist here… the real deal.
You have no idea what a racist is.
I’m pretty sure that everyone whoknows you also knows what a racist is.
I’m pretty sure that everyone whoknows you also knows what a faggot is. 🙂
Oh no. No the fg word.
I changed it.
But everything Toby’s said here is bullshit.
He’s your standard anti-white online cockgobbler.
Eh, yeah. Just please mind your language.
Your choice of words is despicable. We can find ways to discuss Star Wars that don’t involve such language.
People with intellectual disabilities and homosexuals do not deserve to be treated like second class citizens in the way you have presented them.
You can go back and edit your posts as much as you want, but I hope that one day you will visit this issue with maturity and respect.
Second class citizens? Terrific. You’re a social justice warrior. I should’ve guessed.
Oh my…I feel so guilty, so ashamed to have called you out and all the bullshit you’ve been spreading on this forum
My sincerest apologies.
I shall go away into exile now, like Yoda at the end of ROTS….farewell SJW beta male.
This isn’t about guilt or shame. This is about grown, adult, human beings treating one another equally despite different backgrounds.
Oh they do. In my country a racist is someone who protects his/her people from foreigner assaults. But only if he or she is white.
How can someone be racist if race is just a social construct?
Using a mental handicap as an insult is a depressingly predictable argument from you. If you could muster a single sentence vis a vis which species live on which planet in the Star Wars universe, I would be impressed with and applaud your new-found debate skills.
You can call me anti-white if you wish. But I think my words stand for themselves. I love the United States and, despite it’s flawed background, I will forever champion its role as a nation of equality.
Why am I even talking about the country I live in? This should be a discussion about a TV trailer? Let’s talk about that.
Flawed background? Oh, are you referring to the genocide on the native americans? But seeing as you consider diversity a good thing no matter what the consequences, why do you look upon your history as flawed? After all, America was very non-diverse before the europeans came. If anything you should be proud for bringing diversity to the continent. Shouldn’t you?
Let’s deconstruct what you said in that latest example of you being a dumb-dumb:
1) You still seem unable to bring up anything that applies to the Star Wars universe which is the basis of what we are actually discussing.
2) The genocide of the indigenous people of North and South America is horrific part of my country’s history. It was also unsuccessful. I have Cherokee heritage which is pronounced in a few genetic ways. I have explored and look forward to further exploring this part of my personal history.
3) “America was very non-diverse before the Europeans came.” Nope. There were dozens of nations across North America in the 1400s that survived hudreds of years until Europeaon expansionism in the 1700s.
4) Seriously, your Mum is going to be cross if she finds you at the computron at this hour.
Standard SJW bullshit post.
Spew out a bunch of highly questionable “facts.”
Then cap it all off with an accusation of racism or petty insult.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
So America counts as diverse BEFORE it become “diverse”. But Europe was never diverse?
Actually, we seem to never really be diverse enough according to politicians, social justice warriors and the media. There’s an endless stream of diversity entering our countries from the Middleeast every day to fix that “problem”.
Nice edit of your post after posting re: “riding the one single bus that will bring me to work on time.” It’s hard to sift trough fact and hyperbole when you go back and try to change the terrible things you’ve said and done.
I edited it 3 minutes after initial post to answer your question. Sorry you’ve missed it for an hour.
Terrible things? Now I believe you’re drunk.
Trolls rock!!!
I wouldn’t count it as trolling to point out subtle propaganda.
You’re kidding, right?!? Damn! I should have NEVER fed the troll because there’s always a bottom feeder nearby!
Well. I’m sure you’ll notice eventually.
This is great!
-Sabine being related to Pre Vizsla is going to be awesome.
-Ahsoka mopping the floor with the Inquisitors is going to be awesome. I’m envisioning a fight starting with something along the lines of, “I hear you Inquisitors were trained by Darth Vader, himself… So was I.”
Not related by blood. Anyone can be adopted into the clan in Mando culture. Plus, Vizla was definetly Caucasian and Sabine is straight up Asian.
imo there is no doubt now that is Barriss Offee
I hope you’re right.
Me too 🙂
I like the idea, but I dunno. Why wouldn’t they use the same voice actor? Ahsoka is already dealing with two key people from her past – Anakin/Vader and Rex. Would adding a third connection be a good idea for the story or would it dilute the emotional weight of reconnecting with her master and her captain?
It would bring us closure =)
Rex is a positive connection.
Vader is a build-up
Putting Barriss in between them will make or break Ahsoka. It adds another dimension to what she is up against. The arc can’t be straight to Vader, it’s too easy.
And like Frisk says, it brings closure.
I like that arc! Confronting Rex brings up her past, confronting Barriss teaches her to deal with the past, confronting Vader teachers her how to bury the past.
I’m not convinced, though, that Vader will be a big part of Season 2. He drove the main characters off of Lothal, I’m thinking he’s played out his role in Rebels. Otherwise, it diminishes him as a villain. He can’t kill a washed up Padawan turned smuggler and a Padawan with less than a year of training? I think he’ll go on to bigger and better things and leave the lowly Ghost Squadron to his underlings.
https://twitter.com/RebelsReport/status/652180083952717825
Why would they go out of their way to tell us that? Well. My day’s ruined.
Interesting
Is it possible the inquistors take the same type of arc that the sith do or the Knights of Renn where they take a title and their identity ceases to exist in it’s original form?
So from a technical perspective Barris like Anakin, ceased to exist..
Good thinking! My day is back on track.
I know it’s been (de)confirmed, however, I just want to say: Really? Don’t you remember that Barriss had that British accent that the Seventh Sister so clearly does not have?
You would need to a confrontation between Ahsoka and the Seventh Sister to get any decisive evidence. There are plausible ways to explain either side, with no end. It’s only how Ahsoka and the Seventh Sister react to one another in the fight would be the final judgement.
Different tats too.
I’m thinking….. Sabine, daughter of Satine? And Obi Wan?!?! Mysterious bounty hunter is Aunt Bo Katan, voiced by Katee Sackhoff….
Ho-ly-cow! It’s gonna be a wild ride to Episode VII !!!
Also….. Sabine Wren, Knights Ren……. Is that strangely weird?
Why not?!? Can’t come up with any other correlation of the last name to the character herself. ???
Is it cookoo to think Disney’s being so super meta and the Knights of Ren are a weird Mandalorian/Sith mashup started by Sabine’s son Kylo? Probably….. But fun to think about. The villaim of the new trilogy is, horrors, Obi Wan’s grandson!
I think that’s a little far-fetched, but I’ll give you a gold star for originality. Starting to believe Kylo Ren is another Skywalker twin along with Ms. Rey, and Sabine may be our lead in Rogue One. Rebels is such a great show, but I can’t get out of my mind how were all blinded toward the eventual demise of all the characters in the series. 🙁
Who voices that Mandolorean? Sounds like Bo Katan.
So by their relatively neutral expressions when they meet, I’m going to guess Asohka and 7th sister don’t actually know each other after all.
Probably not.
I get the feeling that Ahsoka knows that the Inquisitors have some training from Vader. I think that the Inquisitors also know that Ahsoka also has more meaningful training from Vader (then Anakin) and want to prove themselves by defeating Ahsoka.
Ever heard of the knockout game?
Most impressive.
Season 2 looks like it’s going to be awesome. 22 episodes too. It feels like they’re focusing on everything I love about Star Wars. B wings even get a dedicated introduction.
Ackbar helped design it in the old canon, So it would be cool to see if he make a cameo here and we could see what he’s done since The Clone Wars. The Mon Calmari they showed was too short and fat to be him. Lost Stars describes him as being really tall which I never really got from the films but we never really saw him from the waist down.
I’m hoping there aren’t going to be any breaks this season.
Actually, Rebels Season 2 is 22 episodes long, but Matt Martin confirmed Siege of Lothal counts as first two episodes of Season 2, so we have 20 episodes left this season to go.
Look’s pretty darn good imo.
The Seven Siblings of Snoke!1 Jedi Temple attackers confirmed!1
I wonder if the lost commander is Kenobi?
INTERDICTOR CRUISERS!!!!!! WOO!
.
Sorry, just got transported back to playing XW and TIE there for a second.
I really don’t like how they got JEJ’s voice all wrong, Hard to explain but he doesn’t sound much like he did in the films which is irritating as this takes place right before A New Hope. Not just his performance which is more English sounding now but something about the breathing that’s very different here. They should have just asked Ben Burtt what he did since he seems cool enough to work pro-bono and is still among the living.
I hope he sounds better in VII, Assuming the flashback rumors are true.
I thought he sounded fine, but maybe my audio is bad.
Check Youtube if you don’t have the films on you to see what I mean. I know he’s a lot older now but I think it has more to do with whoever is in charge of the sound mix.
i agree it sounds too high pitch for vader and reverb or something
I’m no Ben Burtt but I think they rushed this out which is why it’s so off. Either that or it was a budgetary thing since Rebels is made for less than Clone Wars.
I smell full trailer during or after the 1 episode
i think the plot twist is obi wan coming back and the series will end with some link to luke
